The Premier League returns after a short break on 8th February for match week 24, and things are hotting up all the way from the title race to the battle to beat the drop as we head into the business end of the 2021/22 campaign.
Here, we’ve previewed all nine fixtures and provided betting tips for each match this week. Read on to find out what we’re backing in this crucial round of games…
Tuesday 8th February
Newcastle v Everton Betting Tips
The Magpies take on the Toffees in what’ll be a crucial relegation six-pointer. There’s been massive changes at both clubs going into this one, with the Toon buoyant after beating Leeds last time out and spending over £100 million on five new faces in the January transfer market. They’ll need their new signings to make an instant impact though, as they still find themselves in the relegation places, facing a massive battle to stay up.
Everton have appointed Frank Lampard as their new manager and also spent big in the transfer market with Deli Ali and Donny Van De Beek. Likewise, they’ll be hoping this can inspire them to victory, with the club in a dismal run of form going into this clash. The Blues have lost four of their previous five league games and are desperate to get out of the relegation battle they find themselves embroiled in.
With so much change on both sides, there’s a lot of uncertainty when it comes to betting on this one. However, you would expect Newcastle and Everton to be going for the win here with so much at stake, new signings looking to impress, and a new manager in the away dugout. Both teams to score at 8/11 looks like a solid bet, especially with the leaky defences on display. Over 2.5 match goals also come at a decent odds of 10/11.
West Ham v Watford Betting Tips
The Hammers are enjoying a fine season under David Moyes’ stewardship as they remain in the hunt for a place in the top four. Despite this, they’re not in great form going into this one, losing their last two games in the League, but remain strong favourites due to Watford’s struggles.
However, the Hornets have just appointed veteran manager Roy Hodgson, and so will be hoping his experience can help them turn things around. He needs a good start to life at the helm, as Watford are running out of time to put valuable points on the board to beat the drop this term.
Despite a very respectable goal difference of plus 10, West Ham do concede a lot (31 so far this season). Watford have shipped 40 goals so far but also scored 23, which is more than those around them. Given all this, over 2.5 goals at 4/7 looks a good bet and a West Ham/ West Ham bet in the Half-time/Full-time market is also a very good price.
Burnley v Manchester United Betting Tips
Sean Dyche’s side come into this one desperate for points as they look to take advantage of their games in hand and climb above their relegation rivals. The Clarets have been busy in the transfer window – bringing in Dutch forward Wout Weghorst to replace Chris Wood – and will be hoping he reinvigorates their forward line, as they have the second-lowest goals total in the Premier League this season.
Manchester United’s form has picked up lately, meaning they have regained their top-four place for the time being. But the table is tight and several clubs are looking to oust United from the last Champions League spot. Rangnick’s side will no doubt be looking at this game as a routine victory over a relegation-threatened team.
With both clubs struggling for goals this year, an under 2.5 match goals bet at Evens is our pick for this one. However, United are prone to tripping up against sides lower down the table and Burnley is never an easy away day. A double chance bet of Burnley or the Draw at 5/4 could be worth a punt.
Wednesday 9th February
Norwich v Crystal Palace
Recent form has seen the Canaries move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season, and they know a win against Palace will keep them there for the time being. Dean Smith seems to be doing a good job in turning the ship around, with Norwich looking certain to get relegated prior to his appointment. The Game against Palace represents another good opportunity to get much-needed points on the board.
Viera’s side hasn’t had much luck recently with just one win in their last five league outings, and will be desperate to return to form to avoid slipping down into a potential relegation battle. The Eagles have enjoyed a decent season under the Frenchman though, with fans seemingly happy with the more attacking style of play he has implemented in his debut season.
With the home sides form picking up recently, the Norwich win bet at 5/2 offers great odds as does a double chance bet of Norwich or the draw at 4/6 if you’re looking to play it a little safer.
Tottenham v Southampton Betting Tips
Spurs have enjoyed a resurgence under Antonio Conte since the Italian took over and are well within touching distance of a top-four spot. Three wins in their last five is a good return considering the sides they have played, and with Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur both arriving from Serie A giants Juventus in the transfer window, Tottenham look in good shape going into the business end of the season.
The Saints have had a fairly solid season, sitting mid-table and looking like they will successfully stay out of the battle for the drop. They’ll be pushing for a top-half finish with Brighton, Leicester and Aston Villa well within their sights.
A Spurs victory at 8/13 represents a decent price considering they are strong favourites and are playing in front of a home crowd. However, if you’re feeling more ambitious, Tottenham do concede a fair few goals and the Saints have a tendency to up their game against better opposition, so a result and both teams to score could bear fruit. Here you’ll get Tottenham at 9/4 or Southampton at 17/2.
Manchester City v Brentford Betting Tips
The reigning Champions look on course to add another Premier League title to their trophy cabinet, as Pep’s side top the table. They did slip up last time out, only managing a draw against Southampton, but you’d expect them to bounce back against Brentford who are struggling to replicate the form they showed earlier in the season.
The Bee’s have lost four of their last five and have shipped 38 goals in total this campaign. They also don’t pick up too many points on the road, and given the scale of the task, it’s hard to look past a City win in this fixture.
Goals are naturally to be expected whenever Man City play, and Brentford’s attacking style of play only points to that further. Therefore, an over 3.5 goals bet at 5/6 provides a decent return. Even over 4.5 at 7/4 could be worth a punt in this fixture.
Aston Villa v Leeds Betting Tips
Steven Gerrard has enjoyed a good start to life at Villa since taking over from Dean Smith and the big-name January signings of Digne and Coutinho have excited fans about the direction the club appears to be going in.
Leeds on the other hand are having a dismal season, losing to relegation-threatened Newcastle last time out. They look a shadow of the side that took the league by storm last season after finally getting back to the top flight. Injuries have not helped, with key players like Bamford and Phillips sidelined for what must feel like an eternity to the Leeds faithful. No January signings mean they will likely struggle on for the rest of the campaign, with the hope of avoiding the drop.
Goals are almost certain in this one with both sides renowned for scoring and conceding. Over 2.5 goals at 8/11 looks a safe bet, while a Villa win and both teams to score at 5/2 also provides good value.
Thursday 10th February
Liverpool v Leicester Betting Tips
Brendan Rodgers takes the Foxes back to his old club and will be looking to repeat the result in the reverse fixture back in December. Klopp’s side can’t afford a slip up though as they chase City in the title race. The Reds will also be hoping to call upon new signing Luis Diaz who signed for £50 million last month.
Leicester still have ambitions of finishing in the European places despite being some way off the top seven as things stand. By their standards, they have had an indifferent season, currently sitting bang in the middle of the league, but there are plenty of games left for them to climb the table.
Half-Time/Full-time markets could be the route to go down with this one, with Liverpool/Liverpool getting you odds of 5/ 6.
Wolves v Arsenal Betting Tips
The home side have enjoyed a solid season under new coach Bruno Lage, who had big shoes to fill when he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo back in the summer. Even with Adama Traore leaving for Barca, Wanderers still have a strong squad full of attacking flair and defensive solidarity, as they look set for a top-half finish at the very least.
Opponents Arsenal have seen a huge turnaround after a very poor start to the season. Arteta’s young side have really come into their own, propelling themselves into contention for a top-four finish. They will be looking to get back on track after an unlucky defeat to Manchester City and a goalless draw to Burnley in their last two league outings.
Both teams to score at nearly evens (10/11) is our pick for this one. An Arsenal win comes in at better than that (23/20) but as the odds indicate, it will be a tough task for the Gunners.
