In the article, we take a look at Premier League clubs ranked for the amount of waiting time since their last major trophy.

Ahead of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup semi final against Brentford, live on Sky Sports this Tuesday – it’s time to see how long has it been since top flight clubs won a major trophy?

Thomas Frank’s side are looking to lift their first ever major silverware, while Jose Mourinho will be hoping to finally ending Spurs’ 13-year hiatus without a trophy.

So here’s Premier League clubs ranked for waiting time since last major trophy…

20. Arsenal

Arsenal’s last major trophy came in the FA Cup, Saturday, August 1, 2020 which was a total of 157 days ago.

Arsenal took on Chelsea and came out the winners with a 2-1 victory until Mikel Arteta.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored both goals as his side come from behind against Chelsea to win the Heads Up FA Cup for a record 14th time.

19. Liverpool

Liverpool’s last major trophy came in the Premier League, Thursday, June 25, 2020 which came a total of 194 days ago.

It was their first top-flight league title in thirty years with the club setting multiple records in the season.

They include winning the league with seven games remaining making it the earliest any team has ever won the title, amassing a club record 99 points, and achieving a joint-record 32 wins in a top-flight season.

18. Man City

Manchester City’s last major trophy came in the League Cup, Sunday, March 1, 2020 whist came a total of 310 days ago.

As can be seen below, Pep Guardiola’s side won the game 2-1 against Dean Smith’s Aston Villa at Wembley in front of no fans due to Covid.

City secured their third League Cup win in succession – and their fourth in five years thanks to goals from Aguero and Rodri.

17. Chelsea

Chelsea’s last major trophy came in the Europa League, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, which came a total of 1 year, 7 months, 7 days ago.

Eden Hazard scored two goals and made another to help Chelsea thump London rivals Arsenal in Baku and win the Europa League.

Victory gave Blues boss Maurizio Sarri the first trophy of his managerial career and ensured the Gunners will miss out on next season’s Champions League.

16. Man Utd

Manchster United’s last major trophy came in the Europa League, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 which came a total of 3 years, 7 months, 12 days ago.

Manchester United claimed their second major trophy of the season and secured Champions League football as they overcame Ajax to win the Europa League final in Stockholm.

The victory meant that Manchester United have now won all three of Europe’s major competitions.

15. Leicester

Leicester City’s last major trophy came in the Premier League, Monday, May 2, 2016 which came a total of 4 years, 8 months, 3 days ago.

In what was described as one of the greatest sporting stories of all time, Leicester were confirmed as champions of the 2015–16 Premier League season on 2 May 2016, finishing top of England’s highest league for the first time in the club’s history

The club was 5000-1 with bookmakers to win the division before the season kicked off. The feat meant that Leicester would be playing in the UEFA Champions League the following season, a first for the club in their history.

14. Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s last major trophy came in the League Cup, Sunday, February 24, 2008 which came a total of 12 years, 10 months, 12 days ago.

It was the first League Cup Final to be played at the new Wembley Stadium, and the first to be played in England since the old Wembley was demolished in 2000.

The final was contested by Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Arsenal 6–2 on aggregate in the semi-final, and Chelsea, who beat Everton 3–1 on aggregate. Spurs defeated Chelsea 2–1, after extra time, winning their first trophy in nine years.

13. Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s last major trophy came in the League Cup, Sunday, March 24, 1996 which came a total of 24 years, 9 months, 12 days ago.

This was the 36th final and the 30th to be played at Wembley. Aston Villa had won the trophy two years earlier, while Leeds’ last victory was in their only final appearance in 1968.

In the first half the teams were separated by a goal from Savo Milošević. After half-time, Leeds United tired and Aston Villa took advantage to eventually win 3–0. Goals from Ian Taylor and Dwight Yorke completed the scoring. This was the beginning of the end for Leeds United manager Howard Wilkinson, as he was heckled by the club’s fans for his and the team’s failure. However, it was Villa’s fifth success in the competition, at the time equalling the record set by Liverpool.

12. Everton

Everton’s last major trophy came in the FA Cup, Saturday, May 20, 1995 which came a total of 25 years, 7 months, 16 days ago.

Everton won the match 1–0 via a headed goal by Paul Rideout, after Graham Stuart’s shot rebounded off the crossbar.

The rest of the game saw Manchester United dominating the attack, only for Welsh international goalkeeper Neville Southall to hold on to a clean sheet.

11. Leeds

Leeds United’s last major trophy came in Division One, Sunday, April 26, 1992 which came a total of 28 years, 8 months, 10 days ago.

Having finished fourth the previous season, this time round Leeds clinched the First Division title, ahead of rivals Manchester United, in only their second consecutive season as First Division club.

As champions of the Football League, United qualified for the European Cup, which would be rebranded as the Champions League for the next season.

They lost just four league games all season, and were held to 1–1 draws both home and away by Man Utd (who also knocked them out of both domestic cups).

Eric Cantona signed for the club in mid-season, making his debut at Oldham Athletic on 8 February 1992, and scored three goals in the remainder of the season.

Leeds clinched the title in the penultimate game of the season with a 3–2 win at Sheffield United.

The first goal that day was scored by striker Rod Wallace, who had joined Leeds the previous summer from Southampton.

10. West Ham

We continue our look at Premier League clubs ranked for waiting time since last major trophy. West Ham’s last major trophy came in the FA Cup, Saturday, May 10, 1980 which came a total of 40 years, 7 months, 26 days ago.

The 1980 FA Cup Final was contested by West Ham United and Arsenal at Wembley.

West Ham won by a single goal, scored by Trevor Brooking.

To date, it is the last time a team from outside the top flight has won the FA Cup. It was West Ham’s third FA Cup triumph and the last time that they have won a major trophy.

9. Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ last major trophy came in the League Cup, Saturday, March 15, 1980 which came a total of 40 years, 9 months, 21 days ago.

The 1980 League Cup Final was the final match of the 1979–80 Football League Cup, the 20th season of the League Cup.

The match was played at Wembley Stadium on 15 March 1980, and was contested by League Cup holders and European champions Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

Wolves won the match 1–0 thanks to an Andy Gray goal in the 67th minute.

8. Southampton

The Saints’ last major trophy came in the FA Cup, Saturday, May 1, 1976 which came a total of 44 years, 8 months, 4 days ago.

United had finished third in the First Division that season, and were strong favourites, while Southampton had finished sixth in the Second Division, Southampton had players with FA Cup Final experience more than Manchester United, Peter Rodrigues (1969), Peter Osgood (1970) and Jim McCalliog (1966).

In one of the biggest surprises in the history of the final, Southampton won 1–0 through an 83rd-minute goal from Bobby Stokes.

It was the first time Southampton won a major trophy, and the last time that the Queen attended a final and presented the trophy to the winners.

7. Newcastle

Newcastle’s last major trophy came in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, Thursday, May 29, 1969 which came a total of 51 years, 7 months, 7 days ago.

The 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final was the eleventh final of the competition.

It was played on 29 May and 11 June 1969 between Newcastle United of England and Újpesti Dózsa of Hungary. Newcastle won the fixture 6–2 on aggregate.

6. West Brom

The Baggies’ major trophy came in the FA Cup, Saturday, May 18, 1968 which came total of 52 years, 7 months, 18 days ago.

West Brom won 1–0 after extra time with Jeff Astle scored the winning goal, achieving the feat of scoring in every round of that season’s competition. It was the fifth time that West Brom had won the FA Cup; they have not reached the final since.

This was the first FA Cup Final to be televised live in colour. Both teams wore their away strips, West Brom wearing white shirts and shorts with red socks, and Everton wearing gold shirts and blue shorts.

This was also the first FA Cup Final where a substitute was used, when West Brom’s Dennis Clarke came on for an injured John Kaye.

5. Burnley

Burnley’s last major trophy came in Division One, Monday, May 2, 1960 which came a total of 60 years, 8 months, 3 days ago.

The 1959–60 season was the 78th season in the Clarets’ existence, and their 13th consecutive season in the top flight.

Under manager Harry Potts, they were crowned champions of England for the second time, and as of 2020 for the last time. The team also got to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, in which they were knocked out by local rivals Blackburn Rovers in a replay, stopping a possible historical 20th century double.

4. Sheffield Utd

The Blades’ last major trophy came in the FA Cup, Saturday, April 25, 1925 which came a total of 95 years, 8 months, 11 days ago.

Nearly 92,000 spectators attended the final and witnessed the only goal of the game was scored by Sheffield United’s Fred Tunstall after 30 minutes when he dispossessed Harry Wake on the edge of the Cardiff penalty area before shooting past goalkeeper Tom Farquharson.

The Bluebirds were unable to make a comeback and the match finished 1–0, giving Sheffield United their fourth FA Cup triumph.

The match remains the last time Sheffield United have won the competition as of October 2020. Cardiff returned to Wembley two years later, in the 1927 final, when they won the trophy for the first time.

1- Brighton, Crystal Palace and Fulham

All three of these top flight sides last major trophy… well rather awkwardly never in their history!
