Portsmouth fan Cameron Gillon issues an open letter expressing deep frustration with the Eisner family’s ownership of the club.
While there has been positive contributions from them since taking over in 2017, there is now criticism towards their apparent lack of ambition or ability to push the club forward.
In the letter, the supporter mentioned Pompey’s bottom-two Championship budget, minimal spending (just £500k on four signings) in what was an important transfer window to try and help push them up the table away from the relegation zone.
They currently sit 20th with 33 points from 28 games played, a point above the drop zone, but have two games in hand over sides around them.
Our owners need to answer for a lot of concerns and hard questions right now.@Michael_Eisner & @eric_eisner this is all my own words & views, and I am sure are shared by many of our fans
To confirm, I am NOT associated with @PFC_Coalition, this is all my own words.#pompey pic.twitter.com/6CculGTTMU

Open Letter On The Eisners
“Just to start with this, do I think anything will come of this? Absolutely not, that isn’t the reason for doing this. The purpose of doing this is to air my concerns of the club I love and have followed since 2002 as a kid. I hope others share the same opinion and I am sure many will. I also know this will come with backlash from some fans but again I think all the views I am writing are all written with substantial evidence to back it up.
I will not deny that the Eisners have had nothing but a positive stamp on our club since taking over, they have done plenty of good for the club, but its painfully obvious that they either have no interest in taking us further, or simply can’t or willing to. Michael Eisner even mentioning Premier League ambitions is laughable, based off what? Is it the bottom two budget that barely keeps us up in the Championship, are you hoping our manager just continues to over achieve our budget and work miracles? Because let’s be honest here, he has done that and more.
Eisners words were “trust me, we will not get relegated” whilst we’re in a relegation fight, and as of time of writing, we are a 72 hours away from the end of the transfer window and have spent 500k across four signings in a window that really should have proven the true intent of our owners and they have shown that they aren’t willing to invest more to boost our chances of survival.
Our manager is clearly showing signs of frustration and who can blame him? Got us promoted on a shoe string budget, achieved 16th in the Championship with a bottom two budget, and has to rely on playing our most experienced players out of position because he clearly doesn’t think the youngsters we bring in are up to this level to deliver results. Mousinho deserves more, hes earned more, and I honestly think if another club with ambitious owners and money behind him, he would be off eventually, and I would be one standing there giving him his flowers as he leaves the ground with no ill feeling , he deserves it.
Your policy of buy young, sell for profit ” clearly isn’t working. How do you expect to do that when you throw in players like Umeh and Blair in the deep end off the back of long-standing injuries because you fail to invest in the experienced signings required alongside them. You can buy these teenagers for the future, but you build them around your seasoned players. Our youngsters wont develop if they keep getting injured and because we are short of players that can compete, we stick them straight in the deep end and they’re back on the injury list for another four months.
For me the following needs to happen.
1. Communicate with supporters, answer the questions from the people that matter most.
2. Show through actions, not words that you have a sustainable plan long term for this club.
3. Be open and clear about how you plan on achieving your ambitions for our club.
4. Do you believe you are the right people to take this club forward, if so, prove it with your plan
5. Why are you failing to give us a competitive budget in the Championship and how does that align with this dream of Premier League football
I could sit here all-day writing questions that need answering. For me being left in the dark as a supporter is unacceptable. It was an absolute dream to see this club get back into the Championship after seven years, but the experience is constantly over shadowed by the same anxieties, the same concerns and same discussions, its leaving a bigger divide in our fan base as time goes on, something has to change, and quick.”
In a further tweet, @CamGpfc tweeted: “Concerning to see how far our fan’s mentality has diminished over the years to go & defend the Eisner’s ownership using the training pitch, stadium development and infrastructure. As fans your main concern should be what you see on the pitch, the rest is secondary. #pompey”

Here’s the social media reaction after a Portsmouth fan issues an open letter expressing deep frustration with the Eisner family’s ownership…
@GBPFC1984: Fair play for you calling it out. Whatever anyone criticises you are, just like we were in the coalition, on the right side of history. The Eisners have zero interest in this club.
@whcallum: Agree with all of the above, BUT we cannot expect the Eisners to respond realistically, let’s say they turn round and say they will heavily invest and we will get a top 12 budget, Clubs were looking to buy from know this and charge ridiculous amounts. Publicly saying “weve got cash to spend” only guarantees and translates to other clubs as “charge us extra, we’re actively looking to spend”. This January window Cullen said that substantial bids were made, realistically we just have to hope this is true…
@FortPompey91056: Well done Cam. For me, if the infrastructure and development side of things was making ANY sort of process they would have my full support regardless of the on pitch troubles. To have both NOT happening and the club acting constantly on a cost-cut. They can Fuck Off.
@jamieparkie: I agree with all of this. You are making some valid points. I am not enjoying following the club at all in its current state.
@CamGpfc: Started supporting in early 2000s, the club may be ran in terms of financial security, but as fans it should be about what we see on the pitch, the club, the owners, everyone involved and fans should have ambition, not to settle.
