In-form Port Vale got off to the perfect start when Mal Benning’s cross from the left came to Proctor, and when his shot was deflected to Wilson, his finish was a tad fortunate.
Sutton United keeper Dean Bouzanis stopped his shot but the ball bounced back to Wilson, who rolled it across the line.
Proctor doubled the lead in spectacular style mid-way through the first half.
It came from another ball sent in from Benning, looping into the air after being deflected. Proctor got on the end of it, leaping high to surprise everyone with a scissor-kick volley into the top corner.
Sutton’s Craig Eastmond wasted two chances late in the half and Connor Hall cleared the bar with a chance to seal the win early in the second half, and Omar Bugiel also fired over for Sutton.
Joe Kizzi went the closest for the visitors, heading the ball against the bar 20 minutes from time, but Port Vale were in control enough to see out the game and pick up all three points.

Port Vale assistant manager Andy Crosby, stepping in temporarily for Darrell Clarke due to family bereavement, was all in praise for his team and supporters.
“It was an electric start. We said we had to start fast, which we have been doing here. We got on the front foot and scored two early goals.
“The game became a little bit scrappy then for the rest of the first half and they had a spell. But we knew what we had to do today against them. Out of possession, we had to do all the basics to a really high level.
“We had to be ultra-competitive without being silly and giving free kicks away. We had to win duels, run after people, get blocks in and stop balls from coming in the box. We did a manful job of that and, when we got the ball, we had to play our game, which was something we spoke about before the game. We had to impose ourselves on them, otherwise they would dominate the game and how they wanted to play the game.
“So, delighted with the start, a good clean sheet and the lads will now get a couple of days off to recover and reflect on where we are at. And we will attack the rest of the games coming up.”
He added: “It always helps when you score early. It settled everyone down and gives the crowd some impetus as well. I thought the crowd were fantastic, they created a really good atmosphere.”
