Police rush in to try and stop Accrington and Morecambe fans from clashing

Police rush in to try and stop Accrington and Morecambe fans from clashing, as can be seen in a video posted on social media.

The 26 second clip has gone on to get over 500,000 views on Twitter alone, 14 hours after it emerged online after the League Two fixture. Fans can be heard telling each other to throw a punch, while others kick out, push and shove, then a police officer storms in with the two groups starting to separate.

It was the battle of the relegation zone, with Dara Costelloe netting twice to help Accrington pick up their first win of the season, with the result seeing them jump above Morecambe and sending them to the bottom of the table.

Ben Tollitt could only get a consolation goal in the closing stages, a 20 yard free kick into the top corner.

Costelloe scored from the spot on 36 minutes, sending keeper Stuart Moore the wrong way to put Accrington ahead after Morecambe captain Yann Songo’o fouled Shaun Whalley.

It was 2-0 to the hosts in the first minute of added time, Seamus Conneely sent the ball through to Costelloe, who did well to get past Tutonda to the ball, before placing a shot past Moore and inside the far post.

John Doolan boss said post-match, per Limerick Live: “I am over the moon, I am just so happy for everyone at this club.

“We deserved three points from other games which we haven’t got so to get over the line today is superb.

“I wanted fight from the players all week, that was what we demanded.

“The players showed the fight in the individual battles, the team battles and in the end we won the war.

“I am so pleased for the lads in the dressing room. You have to enjoy it and I hope they do, it’s long overdue.

“When you go in the dressing room, everyone is hugging each other and high-fiving and they are best places when you win a game of football. Wins are everything.”

Morecambe’s Derek Adams meanwhile said: “We put in our worst performance of the season in the first half. We were terrible.

“We didn’t get man to man with their players and we allowed them to get a penalty kick and a goal just before half-time. In the first half it was exceptionally poor and that was a huge disappointment.

“Coming into a game like this and putting on your worst performance, it wasn’t good.

“The second half, we got a bit better, we got a goal back, but we didn’t play to the levels we have done this season. That’s hugely disappointing.

“I have said that to the players and they are in Sunday morning as we can’t accept the standard of today’s performance. We had a large following of supporters, they have paid good money and we need to be better than we were.”

Twitter users reacted as police rush in to try and stop Accrington and Morecambe fans from clashing…

@RobLangton: If someone had got in the way of that aggressive bouncing it could’ve ended badly.

@ryan_murton: One punch and you could go to prison for 15 years. Not worth it.

@JYaj: Poor lads didn’t know what to wear, some with scarves, coats, hoods up others in just t shirts. English weather eh. Just can’t tell.

@chrise27007: 2 morecambe vs 30 scrawny little choppers. Well done lads

@Ticketmancity: Some strength on them invisible walls

@ScotsBrit: “Accrington Stanley, who are they”? “Exactly”.

@KeithLFC6: All waiting for someone to go on the floor before the shithouses at the back could all come steaming in with the boots.

@ScottCarter97: 30 odd Stanley lads bottling it agains 4 Morecambe lads. Embarrassing east Lancashire twats that didn’t make a single noise when we walked passed their “main pub”🤣😬

@harriettbusby: Having to push someone in to get it going, why do they bother? No one ever wants it.

@MFC_jordan: bout 30 of them and they were all just stood egging each other on till coppers come, gimps 🤣🤣🤣

@CiaranBWFC2002: Really don’t get all the filming, literally evidence to get you banned or banged up. They’re so desperate to get the old days going yet anyone filming back then would be kicked in themselves. Clowns

@Itzhazza12: telling eachother to throw a punch. my word thats embarrassing 😭

@Caprani14: 3 v 20 and Accy are telling each other to throw a punch 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Give it up lads

@nmclean77: I bet there’s some pretty graphic stories flying around Year 10 in the schools of Accy on Monday…………. GCSE level!

@morganzwynne: Fantastic defending from the invisible wall.

@rmf80: So 3 older chaps who understand the consequences of getting involved and don’t want to get nicked stand their ground to bunch of teenage plastic hooligans. The young lads did’t know what to do when the 3 weren’t going to budge all pretty embarrassing especially filming it 🤦‍♂️

@LeonRousseau10: Well ard

@foreverayellow: like a scene from the inbetweeners dancing about like that haha, christ me these lads need to get a life rather than trying to hava a pathetic fight for the cameras
