Police gave confirmed they have arrested five people in the centre of Rotterdam on Wednesday evening following the brawl with the suspects Dutch.
Fireworks had also been set off in front of the hotel belonging to the players of Aston Villa, in the hope to disturb their sleep routine, with the game not until the day after.
De Telegraaf stated that reasons that led to the incident which took place outside an Irish pub on Rodezland are unclear.
But sadly these scenes of trouble at European away days have all become too familiar, with supporters flying out being warned of potential trouble.
In a footage uploaded onto social media, people in black clothing make their way an area with glasses heard being smashed nearby, before dispersing as police turned up on the scene.
In the lead up to kick-off on Thursday, police will be present for the safety of Villa supporters, located in the Oude Haven (Old Port) part of the city.
Aston Villa Police (@WMPVillaFC): From the Dutch Police… if you are walking around Rotterdam tonight, there are Feyenoord hooligans in the city in small groups. Please stay together where possible. If you do see Feyenoord groups walking about. Please don’t film them. This will cause a reaction from them.”
Twitter users reacted as police issue statement on Aston Villa fans attacked in Rotterdam before the Feyenoord game…
@Tom_kain1: swear this happens every time we have a european away day at this point #AVFC
@maund: Group of Dutch lads just kicked off outside the Irish bar. Guessing they’re still lurking about somewhere, so have wits about you mate
@PunjabiVillans: Villa fans please stay safe and stay together.
@AvfcSims: Stay safe Villa fans
@nffcalways1: It’s amazing that England fans are still seen as the problem when there’s multiple countries/clubs fans that are much worse and have been for a couple of decades
@skybluepablo1: Always think English fans are very brave going away in the European games. Netherlands in particular is a terrible place to go, they are notoriously violent there, but as we know, UEFA will probably penalise Villa and put the blame on their fans.
@AVFC_Clayton: think it’s quite pathetic when fans go out looking for fights but FairPlay to the lads and who stuck up for their selves and others. Do teams not learn this has happened a few times with Villa now the night before the game the fans start and the villa always outnumber them 🤣
@Rivster74:
Good behaviour please fellow villans.
Respect Holland.
Respect the pubs & clubs.
Return home safe & sound.
With no criminal offenses to the name.
You represent Aston Villa.
Come on you Villa boys!
#avfc #utv

@foreverayellow: be careful out there, sadly seems to be something happening more and more on european away days. glad the police were on it so quick.
@PeterWithe4: This must be the 4th or 5th set of foreign mugs that have landed on Villa the night before the game and had a good hiding 🤣 Fucking absolute wankers 🤣
@___avfc___: feyenoord run haha up the villa
@scott1874_: Well in whoever that is, shouldn’t pay for another beer rest of his trip 👍🏻
