Police issue statement as Harry Maguire receives bomb threat and cops rush to his home

Police issue a statement as Man Utd’s Harry Maguire receives a serious bomb threat and cops have rush to his home on Thursday afternoon.

The sinister threat via email, which claimed that a bomb would be planted in the defender’s home, was reported to Cheshire Police, who since conducted a sweep of his home.

Maguire has two young children with his fiancee Fern Hawkins, but now there are concerns for their safety following the latest discovery.

A spokesman for Maguire said: “In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home.

“He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter. The safety of his family and those around him is obviously Harry’s number one priority.

“He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s fixture as normal and we will not be commenting in any further detail at this time.”

A statement from Cheshire Police read: “On Wednesday 20 April, Cheshire Police were called to reports of a bomb threat at an address in the Wilmslow area.

“No evacuations took place, but as a precautionary measure a police explosives dog has attended the address this afternoon, Thursday 21 April, to conduct a search of the gardens and surrounding area.”

It is not yet known who made the threat and sources are not willing to say how it was made.

This comes after intense criticism Harry Maguire has received for his performances at the Old Trafford outfit, including Tuesday night’s 4-0 defeat by Liverpool.

The £80m defender has been criticised over his lack of form and has since defended himself in a recent Sky Sprts interview as seen below by pointing out both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have continued to select him.

Harry Maguire’s role leading the defence at Manchester United is facing heavy criticism among those at the club, with Ralf Rangnick hinting at a big summer clearout under new boss Erik ten Hag.

Angry fans slammed the England international so much that they caused #MaguireOut to trend on Twitter.

New boss Erik ten Hag – who was announced on Thursday – faces an massive challenge as he inherits a side who have gone a fifth season without silverware and chances of finishing in the top four are slim.

Ralf Rangnick is now set to move upstairs at the club when his stint in the dugout comes to an end next month, and he claims that he has already alerted the board to individuals he believes would improve their fortunes on the pitch.

However, he warns that it will take more than a couple of new faces to lift the side back into competition for the Premier League title, a position the Red Devils have not found themselves in ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

‘There might be a couple of players – and I have already named those players to the board – that independent from formation, from style of football, and independent from a new manager, that could be of interest for a club like United,’ he said talking with Sky Sports.

Following the defeat by Liverpool, Rangnick told Sky Sports: ‘If you analyse the situation, it is not difficult. There will be six, seven, eight, maybe 10 new players.

‘At Liverpool, the profile for each position has been clear and that’s why they are where they are.

‘At Manchester United, this hasn’t been the case with every change of manager. New players came in, but it was not under that pre-condition of how do we want to play.’

As police issue a statement as Harry Maguire receives a bomb threat and cops rush to his home, fans reacted…

@Christ1Morris0: Unacceptable.

@ActionNUFC: Absolute madness.

@kevan_craft: I don’t agree with this at all. I’m an Evertonian but I still don’t agree with this kind of behavior. People need to grow up, its only football for God sakes..

@RubenLe98707934: Bang out of order that.

@jvblueboy: Absolutely disgraceful. You wonder what planet these people come from. I hope him and his family are all ok.

@1slay3r: i’m sorry it’s just football there’s no need for it to ever go this far

@gingermanmike: Have to worry about his mental health with all the abuse he’s getting

@UtdSander: What the actual fuck

@Mejbri46: this is way too far

@PrimeMendy: It’s just football man, people are so weird and overboard.

@mark_v1: Feel sorry for him now

@inghamjj55: People are seriously wrong in the head these days!

@saltwaterNinja: I truly hope they find the person who sent that. That’s just awful and completely unnecessary

@clived_jones: People wonder why his form has dipped so much, he’s regularly cleaned out on social media, then rubbish like this endangering his family. Absolutely disgraceful. It’s football, I just don’t understand the need to vilify someone like this.

@Major_Basheer: He don’t deserve this actually 😐 that’s not fair

@Andyaussievilla: He is in a bad run of form for fxxks sake !! No reason for all this hostility!! I would have him at Villa in a heart beat !! He needs a proper team environment where every one is pulling the same way at utd they are mostly in it for money and their profiles !

@jonmikesav8: Harry Maguire gets a bomb threat? Sorry for my language but what the fuck is wrong with these sad pathetic ✊🏻💦’s? There are amoeba on Mars with more brain cells than these dicks.

@khatri_shreyas: If Harry Maguire defending badly can affect your life so badly that you feel compelled to fabricate stories by his family and send bomb threats, you need to fix your life much more than he needs to fix his defending

@EdmundOris: It’s completely wrong the length people are going to get at Harry Maguire. You can banter and all, express your frustrations on social media, but a bomb threat? That’s too far. Totally unnecessary.

@michaelttfw: If someone has threatened Harry Maguire with a bomb, I’m sure they will be found and dealt with. It won’t be taken lightly. People on twitter who give opinions on his footballing ability aren’t responsible for the actions of someone who clearly isn’t right in the head.

@Gednoon16: Sad and pathetic that Harry maguire has a bomb threat to his family home we’re his two children live… that’s a line you don’t cross and it’s crazy and scary that people take football this serious!! The lads being under average at his job but doesn’t deserve anything like that

@AnfieldEffect: What is wrong with people?! Threatening to bomb Harry Maguire’s home. Pathetic.

@LFCHalps: That Harry Maguire bomb threat situation is ridiculous. He’s a professional footballer who is having a rough time and not playing well. Why do people have to behave and do something like that. Disgraceful.

@lukesellers98: Bomb threat ??? Taking it too fucking far now. Support your captain ffs !!!!! Disgusting 🤬 @HarryMaguire93 ❤️ #MUFC

@RSCSpeckyB: That Harry Maguire bomb scare story is absolutely shocking. He may not be a good footballer and you may hate him but to give him a bomb scare whilst he has a missus and kids is absolutely disgusting. There is no way a player should be getting that sort of threat over football.

@themattylewis: Remember #BeKind after Caroline Flack took her own life… Have we all suddenly got short memories when it comes to Harry Maguire? Why – because he’s a man? He’s still human. It comes to something when someone underperforming at their job receives bomb threats. #HarryMaguire

@leclercs_gf: Slander Harry Maguire all you want. Football players are allowed to be criticized for their poor performances, their lack of effort or their attitudes but sending bomb threats to him? Are people that deluded ? Harry Maguire is a human. And bomb threats over football is abysmal.

@AdamDrewy85: Absolute scum of the earth! People need to realise that there is more to life than football, threatening to bomb a players family home because you don’t rate him is absolutely pathetic! Sorry about our toxic fan base @HarryMaguire93 ❤️
