Newcastle fans loving what owners did post-match as Eddie Howe silences Steve Bruce jibe

Newcastle United fans have been left loving what their owners did post-match on Wednesday as Eddie Howe silences a jibe from Steve Bruce.

Miguel Almiron’s scored a wonder goal to help the Magpies earn a sixth straight home win in the Premier League, getting the only goal of the game against Crystal Palace.

The Paraguayan winger went on a mazy run down the right then curled in a stunning effort off the post, leading the limbs from Newcastle fans, who are even more in love with Bruno Guimaraes after he had set up the goal with an exquisite pass.

Palace boss Patrick Vieira looks frustrated on the touchline for most of the game as his side were deservedly beaten after creating very little.

Wilfried Zaha missed the best of their chances in the second half when he sent his effort wide from inside the box.

The result means that Newcastle claim six straight home league wins for the first time since 2004 and reached the magic 40-point mark needed to secure survival.

To really point out how well Eddie Howe has done since coming in at St James’ Park, no team in Premier League history had ever survived relegation after failing to win any of their opening 14 matches.

Newcastle United are now on 40 points with five games to spare and are eyeing a top half finish, sitting 11th in the table.

Not bad for, in the words of Steve Bruce, ‘that fella who got Bournemouth relegated’.

Howe failed to win his first three matches in charge of the club – but his side have progressed into a team that produced – according to the Magpies manager – their best performance of the campaign in the first-half against Palace.

“We were very good in the first half,” he said. “Probably – with the ball and in terms of our intensity – one of our best performances. In the second half, it was difficult, Crystal Palace came back into the game but we defended very, very well.

“It seems like a long time ago and you can quickly forget where we were and where we’ve come from this season. We know we have a long way to go to improve ahead of us but we’re delighted with the players’ response to our work.

“It’s a great night for the football club. You can forget very quickly where we were and how hard we’ve worked to get into this position now.”

One moment that fans were left in awe of was Newcastle’s owners sharing a post-match victory selfie – Jamie Reuben, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and PIF Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan posed for the camera.

Another was Yasir Al-Rumayyan joining the club’s co-owners for a kick about, with Rumayyan, Jamie Reuben and Mehrdad Ghodussi showing off their tricks and flicks.

The last time chariman Al-Rumayyan was at St James’ Park was the 8th of January, when the Magpies lost 1-0 to League One Cambridge in the FA Cup. They’ve come on leaps and bounds since.

Newcastle find themselves 15 points clear of the drop zone and well within touching distance of the top 10.
