The much disliked chairman Marcus Evans wants to takeover three EFL clubs according to reports emerging earlier this week.
Evans, a former Ipswich Town chairman, has been linked with a takeover at the likes of Huddersfield Town, Queens Park Rangers and Derby County.
He took control of the Tractorboys in 2007 and packed his stuff and departed, before handing over to US investment group Gamechanger in 2021, with Evans taking a 5% share in the company to effectively maintain a stake in the League One outfit.
It was back in October that was Evans was first linked with a takeover of relegation bound Derby County, who are looking for a new owner after being placed into administration.
However news on that front has gone quiet over the past couple of months and to be fair to Derby, it’s probably a good thing he isn’t involved if the club are looking for a fresh start and a more positive future.
Then more recently, popular Ipswich Town news site TWTD now claimed that Evans is wanting to take over a Championship club, looking at Queens Park Rangers and now Huddersfield Town.
The report goes on to say that Evans has ‘recently watched the West Yorkshire side’ and that ‘discussions are believed to be ongoing’.
The 2021 Sunday Times Rich List estimates his wealth to be worth around £786m.
Huddersfield Town are currently 25% owned by former chairman Dean Hoyle and 75% owned by Phil Hodgkinson, with the latter remaining as chairman of the Terriers, however hasn’t been involved in its running since Pure Business Group and other related companies went into administration in November.
This has gone on to make his position at the club virtually untenable in the longer term.

The Examiner say that Hoyle and the rest of the club board have instead overseen the running of the club, with Hoyle resuming financial responsibility to ensure cashflow commitments are met in the short, medium and long term as required.
There have also been claims that Hoyle could be looking to invest in the January transfer market, asking for the players and coaching staff to ‘give him a problem’ by maintaining their touching distance to the playoff race.
Club sources at Huddersfield haven’t given any kind of indication when it comes to seeking new investors right now and have told Yorkshire Live that there is nothing to report despite the ongoing rumours – but the media outlet understands that the financial health of the club does not by any means depend on finding new investment with Hoyle willing and able to do whatever is required.
His chances at getting a takeover with QPR seem a long shot with the Hoops having what’s described to be solid foundations following a turbulent recent history in terms of ownership.

There has been reaction on social media as the much disliked chairman wants to takeover three EFL clubs, see what they said below…
@Rangerstweeter: Not us please!
@DanielDaws1: Fucking hell. Derby have been through enough haven’t they? Will be National League in 3 seasons.
@_KieranBleaz: Poor club
@Nathan_Scarff90: Actually think he wouldnt be a bad owner for Derby. All the infrastructure is good and modern so wont need huge investment like ageing portman/playford road. Gives managers time, something few have had in recent years there. Will play safe money, club has good revenues
@Natureboy1907: He just wants to fuck up another club
@Thefarmerpiles: “Hello Wayne? Yes it’s Marcus Evans here. I understand you used to play association football.”
@abjwright: Genuinely dont understand why Marcus Evans would buy another club. Didn’t he lose enough money owning #ITFC
itfchorry: Poor sods
Woolfenthen: God help anyone who ends up with this buffoon, also tells us all how much a fan he really was
wkj: Watch him succeed too. I think we’re cursed.
brad548ye: You’d think after his experience at Ipswich he wouldn’t be interested. There’s obviously some aspect to owning a football club that benefits the rest of his group of businesses very much financially, whether that be taxes or similar.
@PatrickJP85: It would be very 21st century #itfc if he went and got another club up the Premiership 😂
Taricco_Fan: God help them.
MickMillsTash: Evans seems to make every mistake there was to make at Ipswich. If he has learnt from them he might do well at Huddersfield
churchmans: Huddersfield fans wont know what’s hit them
bazza: If he does, just goes to show he’s Only in it for the money, and no town fan. I want to say I hope it goes worse than his time at town, but I wouldn’t wish it on any other club. Blokes a w#nker.
istanblue: The kiss of death. They’ll be in League One within a couple of years most likely.
hyperbrit: Evan’s epitomizes the decline of football into a business venture (aka tax write off) to subsidize his “wine, women and song” ticket touting scam. Town have learned much but he has learned nothing
Juggsy: 5 years in he addresses his new fans with an open letter detailing how they will move up out of league 2 following a 5 point plan implemented by his puppet Ian Milne
KernewekBlue: Evans, the Grim Reaper of English football, off to haunt yet another group of supporters and rip the heart and soul out their club. The man is a menace!
NewMaldenBlue: Buy a club using capital backed by one’s established companies at 1% say, paying of the club’s debts at 10% say, then charge the club 8% interest of the full debt
jong75: He must have done really badly financially, owning ITFC obviously. All that 6 million a year he put in to keep the club afloat, scoff, scoff. Only one person benefitted by owning ITFC and it was Marcus Evans. All the exposure his company got by having links to ITFC. Amazing that when going down to the 3rd tier, he didnt want his name on the front of the shirts
