Manager Lee Bowyer launches rant at “ludicrous” Birmingham City owners

Manager Lee Bowyer launches a rant at the “ludicrous” Birmingham City owners prior to his side’s Championship fixture at the weekend.

The blues get set to play host to Cardiff City, however Bowyer’s men sit 16th in the second tier standings and it’s happy with how the club are being handled behind the scenes.

The January transfer window is fast approaching, and he’s been left miffed at the disappointing budget given to him for new players in the hope of a playoff push.

Bowyer believes his hands are tied, wanted to strengthen his squad sufficiently but when asked about the budget he and technical director Craig Gardner will be afforded, Bowyer made a few digs.

Speaking to the BBC, Bowyer said: “I feel for Craig. The hand he has to deal with is ludicrous.

“I’m not disillusioned. And l’m not going to complain about it. I’ve just got to try and grind out results.

“But I’m disappointed at the way it’s panned out as that’s not what was told to me the minute I walked in.

“There’s been a lot of changes from what I was told then to now, but it is what it is.

“I can’t change that. And, if there is one thing I am good at it’s adjusting because I’ve had to do that a lot in the past.”

Bowyer came into the club in March and kept the club in the Championship last season. He was limited to making just four permanent signings in the summer, one of whom was Troy Deeney, whilst he was also reliant on loan signings.

One of them, Manchester United’s Tahith Chong, had made a great impact before picking up a long-term injury that cut his spell short.

It is thought that the deal has not been terminated and that the possibility of the Dutch midfielder returning to St Andrew’s to see out his loan is still a possibility, albeit depending on the player’s rehabilitation.

Bowyer has also had to move players on with as many as 16 having depart the club in the summer.

Then the club are hit with a flurry of injuries and suspensions that have made caused havoc with Bowyer’s squad with youngsters having to play a part earlier than expected in their careers.

Bowyer also suggested that he may have to sell players before he is able to bring anyone in next month, leaving fresh concern especially with fans.

Finding replacements and bolstering his squad to manage injuries, such as Chong’s, is incredibly unlikely hence the reason Bowyer has hit out.

He added: “We’re limited in what we can do because of things that have happened in the past. It’s not my fault or Craig’s fault.

“We have to try and change things here. It’s a project and this is a transition period.

“My job on the field is trying to get points and Craig’s job off the field is behind the scenes, moving things around to strengthen the squad.

“But we’re going to have to move players out and we’re going to have to bring in players.

“Especially if we play the way we want to play going forward. We have to bring in a different type of person.”

Twitter users reacted as manager Lee Bowyer launches a rant at the “ludicrous” Birmingham City owners…

@KLocoBCFC: We’re going absolutely no where with these wankers in charge. It’s the same old story isn’t it? Decent manager, with no backing. The situation behind the scenes is worse than us fans know about. #BCFC

@B9STANDREWS: A good honest bloke lied to by the owners who have their own agenda and let’s be honest the welfare of BCFC is not on their radar. We’re in a mess, a total mess.

@BcfcDebate: Lee Bowyer has said Blues will have to sell before he can buy anyone this January window. He also said he was told he would have money January when he joined the club

@zuluwarror1875: These owners need to sell the club before we are in the national league they’ve sold everything that was sellable they need to go

@palmerliam0121: When are we going to do something about these inept owners that clearly don’t look like they’ll put anymore money into the club.

@KieranBcfc89: He also said that he was told when he took the job that If he kept us up he would be backed In the summer. These owners won’t spend any more money now, they seem to expect miracles from a poor squad

@_chancey_: Until we get new owners this clubs is going no where. Can’t even cough up money to fix stand repairs, clubs a fucking joke

@Trudan_Black: Got this awful feeling in my stomach that Lee Bowyer will walk/be sacked by Christmas. This board are dangerous and the public comments about finances might put a strain on relationships. #bcfc

@elwell_alan: Suppose to a new era with blues apparently being more transparent with with all concerned what a joke can’t even be transparent with the manager with yet again more false promises 💙🤦🏼‍♂️
