Painful moment Southampton’s Adam Armstrong awards fan prize for predicting they’d lose 5-0

There was a painful moment Southampton’s Adam Armstrong gives a fan a prize for predicting they’d lose 5-0 to Brentford on Saturday.

Hugo Scheckter’s mother, who is not a football fan, randomly guessed the score of the Premier League fixture correctly, predicting a 0-5 loss for the hosts.

Adam Armstrong, a striker for Southampton, was involved in presenting the prize to Hugo Scheckter’s mother, adding an amusing twist since he plays for the team that lost.

Two goals from Bryan Mbeumo and one each from Kevin Schade, Keane Lewis-Potter and Yoane Wissa earned Thomas Frank’s Brentford a 5-0 in what also was their first away win of the season.

The gone viral video has receive dover 7 million view and counting as well as over 44,000 likes, take a look of it below…

Hugo Scheckter tweeted: “Went to the St Mary’s for first time in a while. My mum, who knows nothing about football, predicted the 0-5 loss then got booed when collecting her prize from Adam Armstrong in the Saints hospitality 😂”

Then he added in a further tweet: “A few clarifications as I’m getting some negativity (as well as some threats of violence which is insane):

– I posted a video of my mum celebrating after randomly guessing a score in a club organised competition.

– My mum picked a random score, she doesn’t follow football and could have easily as picked the 5-0 Saints win.

– I have no animosity towards Southampton, nor am I a fan- I had a wonderful 3.5 years at the club but I worked at both clubs in yesterday’s game and so was truly neutral.

– I don’t know Adam and he wasn’t the focus for the post. Had my mum not won the competition, it’s not something I would have filmed.

– I started the booing as my mum won a prize for predicting the home team would lose.

– The abusive comments from Saints fans blaming me or my family for this result don’t reflect the warm and friendly fan base I got to know when I was at the club.

– I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season and hope they stay up. So many good memories and friends working there.”

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “That was very, very close to perfection. We gave nothing away throughout ninety minutes, defended extremely well and then we created chance after chance after chance. It could have easily been more than five and I am extremely proud of this performance in many ways because Southampton are struggling a little bit.

“We haven’t won away on the road but the performance we put out there is fantastic and I think it speaks about the culture that we have got in the changing room and among the players. The commitment, the focus, the attitude, wow.

On how his side create chances: “We are always happy when the offensive players score goals because those are the ones who need to be reliable and other players need to chip in occasionally but basically today we played with five very offensive players. Keane Lewis-Potter scored, Kevin Schade, Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo scored two. Mikkel Damsgaard created a lot of chances and opportunities, at least one assist today. We are very dangerous and we had a very good day today.”

On Mbeumo and Wissa’s chemistry: “Some players can click on the pitch but they have a very good relationship on and off the pitch and you can see that in a lot of the goals today. Our group of players really like each other, work hard for each other and they care about each other and I think that’s extremely important.”

On how he will enjoy the win: “Tonight I think I will get a very good glass of red wine.”

Southampton manager Ivan Juric speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “A very bad day. We didn’t start well, very bad first 30 minutes and last 15 minutes much better. The second half was like a disaster.”

On what went so wrong for Southampton: “There was only 15 minutes when we played well. Pressed high, stole the ball, tried to create chances but in every situation, they were better than us. Everything. Nothing to say, really bad. We conceded really stupid goals, psychologically we are really down and I think in this moment we have to be all together. It is our fault, my fault as the manager and we have to understand the situation but stay together and try to do better next time.”

On whether the team is worse than he thought before he took charge: “We can compete with the others. We played such a good game against West Ham. After today, there was such a difference between us and them.”

On the fans being annoyed that he took Kamaldeen Sulemana off: “Sulemana hasn’t played for a long time, he did 55 minutes and he was not bad.”

On spending money in the January transfer window: “In this moment I don’t feel that I want to speak about other things. We will see next week with the club everything that we can do.”

Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I think we and the fans have been waiting for a while for our first win away and we worked a lot for it and we are very happy.”

“Today we have done a good performance and we just worked really hard.”

On trying to get his first Premier League hat trick: “Of course, when you hit two goals, you always want to try and get a hat trick but I just keep working and it is going to come.”

On how he is able to get the best out of himself: “It’s mental, I just try to run hard, to help my team-mates and I think we are doing really well. We just want to help the team.”

On his friendship with Yoane Wissa: “We have a really good relationship off the pitch and that’s why maybe we perform well on the pitch.”

Here’s how after reacted to the painful moment Southampton’s Adam Armstrong awards a fan a prize for predicting they’d lose 5-0…

@a11en222: Sorry why the fuck is Adam Armstrong presenting an award to someone for predicting his team would lose 5-0? Whole club is comical #SaintsFC

@PompeyPedro: The fact this is Southampton is obviously funny but isn’t this a great example of when the suits get hold of football and completely miss the mark? Rolling a player out to gift a prize to his own fan who correctly predicted a 5-0 home loss is just so, so poor.

@jaymeeteewhu98: As funny as this is, it doesn’t seem right a player handing over a shirt as a prize after getting a prediction correct of your own club getting dismantled 0-5 at home.

@SaintRob__: That’s obscene 😭😭

@PyramidPodcast_: That is absolutely amazing 🤣🤣🤣

@stokaljona: Absolutely gone how are you having a player do that after a 5-0 loss hahaha

@aim4thelight: Unfortunately, the club means so much more to so many people who don’t deserve endless humiliations – the 9-0s, relegation, 5 goals against 3 times in a month – excuse me while I don’t laugh.

@StreetwiseStu79: It’s all gonna kick off and it’s yer mam’s fault 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️

@jakehughessfc: All the posh twats up in hospitality laughing and joking. Getting Armstrong to present a shirt for someone predicting we get pumped 5-0. Clubs rotting inside out #saintsfc

@SAJtoonfan: Imagine being Adam Armstrong in this situation. After a humiliating home thrashing you’re congratulating someone on predicting just how shite his team would be.

@ConnorArmstrong: I’m able to find a laugh with this, but sending Armstrong out to present the prize is embarrassing from the club, speaks to the total lack of common sense decision-making behind the scenes nowadays 🫣 #saintsfc

@CT02798: Absolutely fucking sensational look at his face 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@MathewForth: This is unreal 🤣🤣 her lack of awareness to celebrate, the player being forced to present the prize, and the booing 🤣 what a shambles

@PragmaticFrog: Very “Saints” this.

@GazzSmith4:
All time low for the club.
Celebrating that someone predicted we’d lose 5 fucking nil at home.
The club making Armstrong present this is a disgrace.
Fuck Sport Republic.
#saintsfc

@marz194_2: This club stinks. This is the sort of shit I’d imagine watching on ‘Sunderland ‘Til I die’ and PSML #SaintsFC

@MrSammyJames: Why, in the name of all that is holy, have Southampton thought it would be a good idea to make a current player award somebody for predicting a 0-5 home defeat 😂😂😂

@ryanwise94: Imagine being spanked 5-0 at home then having to present one of your own fans with a signed shirt for predicting you’d get smashed 5-0 😂😂

@LewisDeighton17: This is so backwards. Why’ve Southampton allowed this to happen? No fan of Armstrong for obvious reasons but he’s been hung out to dry there. Very strange.
