Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner warns the club is in danger of relegation if they don’t replace their star players.
There are concerns that captain Marc Guehi could join Eze in leaving the club. And without reinforcements, especially amid injuries and a thin squad, the club could be in ‘big trouble’.
Guehi, who is currently linked with a potnetial move to Liverpool, is crucial for upcoming matches like the Conference League return leg against Fredrikstad, as no new signings can be registered in time and centre-backs are scarce, prompting Glasner to joke about playing himself.
Eberechi Eze is set for a £60m move to Arsenal, and Palace’s limited incomings (Borna Sosa and Walter Benitez) are beginning to frustrate Glasner, who insists Guehi must stay to compete.
Chairman Steve Parish noted financial rules may force sales if players like Guehi don’t extend contracts expiring next season.

“I just know if Marc leaves and he’s not available for Fredrikstad we will have big troubles,” said Glasner.
“It’s pretty clear, we can’t register anyone, so from my side he has to stay.”
Asked if he was referring to just the trip to Fredrikstad or the whole season, Glasner said: “We played with Jefferson Lerma in the back today.
“He’s a midfield player. We have no centre-back available at the moment, and if Marc leaves, OK, maybe I will try my boots, because I was a centre-back. This could be an option. I will think about it.”
Glasner on the importance of hanging on to Guehi, said: “We have to. Honestly, we have to, especially for the second leg.”
Will Hughes, Chris Richards and Tyrick Mitchell are dealing with “issues”.
Glasner said: “So I think there’s no other choice than keeping Marc.”
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Glasner added: “(Guehi) knows (how I feel), not (just) since today, and everybody knows it. Again, it’s not for me. It’s just, if we want to compete in all these competitions we need players, and that’s pretty clear.
“It’s not demanding anything. You could see again, today we had two players on the bench we already told them they should leave us. We had one from the academy. That means we had 14 outfield players from our regular squad.”
Oliver Glasner is contracted to Crystal Palace until the end of next season and gave a non-committal “we will see” on whether the club’s transfer activity will impact contract talks.
Chairman Steve Parish vows to back Glasner and “get what we can get done” in the window.
He added: “If (Guehi) wants to sign a contract then he can stay. If he doesn’t sign a contract then we have to look at it. It’s a difficult situation.
“If you’re in Europe, the financial rules are a lot tighter than the Premier League. Everybody has to sell players to comply with the rules. Players leaving on a free, that’s not an ideal situation for the football club. I’m not going to pretend that it is, so that’s the situation we will have to look at in the next 11 days.”
Here’s how fans reacted as Oliver Glasner warns Crystal Palace are in danger of relegation if they don’t replace star players…
@total_slotball: Glasner looks done tbh. Brought them glory and hasn’t been backed by the owner. Won’t be surprised if he walks.
@DavidMatthews6: Steve Parish & the other owners don’t deserve Oliver Glasner as manager.
@robertcleary84: You couldn’t ask for a better person to be in charge of the football side of our club, everything football gets dictated by the first team manger. What a breath of fresh air compared to the last couple we’ve had. I hope parish realise how lucky he is!
@Kelly_Mason_: Greatest manager we’ve ever had, given us the best time to be a Palace fan. BACK HIM @CEO4TAG
@Tushydog: Glasner is an inspiration and an absolutely brilliant manager, our best ever. Why the fuck hasn’t he been backed with the needed incomings? We’re in our best EVER period in the clubs history and the board are fucking it up. Sort it out FFS #CPFC
@Mrs_H_Ola: BEST Manager we’ve had! Must be protected at all costs! He’s the difference, yes we’ll miss Ebz but he didn’t win those trophy’s by himself! We can compete but we need to build our squad and keep OG!
@LewisDenny12: People seem to think Glasner is frustrated with the owners but I think he’s just sick of hearing the same question over and over again “Eze this, Guehi that” – It’s exhausting to listen to as a fan so I can’t imagine how it is for him
@Winchester21107: He threatened to leave before the season started if Guehi & Eze were sold , you can’t blame him if he leaves now
@Dills1: How lucky we are to have this man , i struggle to think why you would not want to assist and give this man everything he needs to take us even higher 🙌🏻
@JackRam04458178: @CEO4TAG I’m telling you now you best fucking listen to this man this is an elite coach and you’re treating him with such a lack of respect blatantly ignoring the man and thinking he’s gonna be able to work miracles with 0 squad. If he walks I’m done putting money into the club.
@Orr_Harry: Best manager in palaces history and we’ve given him 0 backing, absolute disgrace and you can’t blame him at all if he was to walk before the end of the window/season
@rcfoster: He’s such a calm, likeable man and his message is clear – ‘stop moaning & get on with it’. #CPFC
He should just walk. Clearly overachieved at Palace and deserves way more. No doubt he’ll land a big job soon and rightly so.
