Nunez HEADBUTTS Andersen and Diaz scores screamer in Liverpool v Crystal Palace

Darwin Nunez HEADBUTTs Joachim Andersen and Luis Diaz scores a screamer in a end-to-end Liverpool v Crystal Palace fixture.

It was in the 32nd minute when Palace, who hadn’t had a kick, saw a special counter attack do the damage! A goal with their first shot.

It was made by a sensational turn of pace by Eze to breeze past Fabinho. That opened up the space and he threaded a wonderful pass in behind Phillips for Zaha to chase. There was plenty to do when he got there but he curled a fantastic finish into the far corner.

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate watching the Premier League game at Anfield: “What a sensational touch from Eze to engineer space in midfield and then expertly break that offside trap. Anfield silent but for the away fans. It has been all Liverpool but the pass in behind to Zaha has been on, it just needed someone to have the time, space and skill to play it. Eze managed it. Superb.”

45+3′ saw Nunez strike the post. TPalace only half clear a set piece and Robertson clipped a lovely ball over Ward for Nunez. He took it into his stride but could only shank a finish from a tight angle that actually beat Guaita but spun back off the far post.

Van Dijk came in for the rebound but slipped at a crucial time.

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate at Anfield: “What a strange half of football that was. Liverpool flowing freely, Klopp smiling and the crowd enjoying it in the expectation that the goal was coming. But when it did it came for Palace thanks to a thrilling counter-attack. Thereafter, Liverpool have lacked fluency, the crowd here have appeared agitated and Palace have been emboldened. Goals change games and all that.”

The 48th minute saw a penalty appeal turned away. Salah ,ade a clever run into space and found Nunez in between the centre-backs. He was into the box and slid another shanked an effort at goal but Ward made a sliding block. There were huge appeals for handball but the referee waved them away.

Then on the 57th minute, Nunez had already moved his head towards Anderson in the attack that fizzled out. Anderson then went to have a word with him and then left a headbutt on him.

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate at Anfield: “The home fans chant his name but that was so foolish by Nunez.”

Not long after, Liverpool’s Luis Diaz got them back level. He picked up the ball on the left and cut inside, past one man, two, three and then fired a shot into the far corner. Wonderful stuff.

He has dragged his side level singlehanded.

Sky Sports’ Alan Smith: “The roof has come off Anfield. That is sensation from Diaz just when Liverpool needed a lift.”

Sky Sports’ Adam Bate at Anfield: “What an atmosphere in here now. Diaz steps up. That red card has helped to create the siege mentality and everyone is on their feet.”

71: Chance for Liverpool as they zip the ball through the lines and Salah backheeled one through to Alexander-Arnold who was away into the box down the right. He went to shoot but slipped and sent one into the Kop. He may have been offside anyway, but there has been a lot of players falling over and showing clumsy footwork.

78: WHAT A MISS!!! Zaha should have made it 1-2. Doucoure pulled out wide and delivered a clever ball across goal that took out the Liverpool defence. Zaha slid in at the back post with the goal gaping but the ball smacked back off the outside of the post!

Phil McNulty (BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield): “Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Palace counterpart Patrick Vieira are getting very lively in the technical area – but not with each other it should be stressed.

“Klopp is demanding even more urgency from his players while Vieira was angry with Eberechi Eze for hanging on to the ball too long after a superb run.”

87: SO CLOSE!! Henderson swung a ball in to the back post where Tsmikas kept it alive by knocking it to Salah on the edge who looped a clever half volley towards the corner but it dropped the wrong side of the post.

90: CLOSE!! Liverpool sent a free-kick into the mixer. Fabinho headed one back for Carvalho who took on the volley from the edge of the box. He let fly with a great effort but it skimmed the post. What a goal that would have been.

Palace got the ball upfield and win a corner. Richards won the first contact and it dropped to Anderson in space at the back post. He was on the stretch but couldn’t get an effort on target. It dropped wide.
