Notts County in astonishing late comeback after Boreham Wood initially stunned in playoff semi final

Notts County found themselves in an astonishing late comeback after Boreham Wood initially stunned in playoff semi final on Sunday.

Notts County were in for quite the surprise when Boreham Wood came to play at Meadow Lane, with both sides battling for place in the National League playoff final.

The Magpies finished the season in second with 107 points from 46 games played, four points behind champions Wrexham and 23 points ahead of third place Chesterfield, and 35 points more than their opponents Boreham Wood.

Luke Williams’ team knew they would face a tough test against the Wood, and boy that is what they got, especially after Boreham defeated Barnet earlier this week in their playoff elimination match.

Boreham Wood are also one of the only two teams Notts has failed to defeat this season with the other being Chesterfield’s playoff opposition Bromley, who beat Woking in midweek.

So, here’ what happened at Meadow Lane when Notts faced Boreham Wood.

The deadlock broke on 37 minutes when George Broadbent beat the offside trap and cut the ball back to Femi Ilesanmi who made a late run into the area as he bundled the ball home. 1-0 Boreham.

The away side them extended their lead on the verge of half time as Lee did so well driving through on goal and slots the ball past Slocombe to double the scoreline.

Just minutes into the second half, Aden Baldwin pulled one back for the hosts with a long range strike.

And then two minutes later, Joe dived right and gets a strong hand to Rodrigues’s penalty, to keep the Wood in front.

Then in the sixth minute of stoppage time in the second half, Notts County made it 2-2 as Baldwin steered home Jones’ cross with seconds left.

Jodi Jones proved vital again as he scored right at the death of extra time, 3-2 and won the game… cue wild celebrations!

This is what fans said with Notts County in an astonishing late comeback after Boreham Wood initially stunned in the playoff semi final…

@Christianjw92: 2 hours of graft for your keeper to do that

@cragsywoods: Well Done, felt great when we did that to you last season with a late winner, but hoping you go up this year. Over the course of a season with that points total you’ve got the minimum you deserve now. One off game in a final to be promoted

@BradleyKnowles1: No better sport than football look at Notts county finishing 35 points clear. Going out the play offs bag in the last minute. Then go and score in the 119th minute

@tonywhilding88: fair play that was a breathtaking game of football, credit to both teams, Notts arenโ€™t doing it the easy way. #Notts

@toomuchpresha: Well done @Official_NCFC you deserve it! What a season with both of us over 100pts. It would be criminal if you didnโ€™t win today. Fingers crossed weโ€™ll see you next season. Canโ€™t see anyone stopping you now. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™

@Willh1985: Always said you’d pull it back. What you deserve after this season. Now get back into League Two๐Ÿ‘Œ

@michaelrenwick_: No one deserves a moment like this more, if he can score the winner in the final it would be even better. All the injury troubles heโ€™s had, congratulations @JodsJones ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’™

@AliNCFC: Utter delirium. Hugging every single person round me. When have Notts County been more beautiful ๐Ÿ˜
#Notts

@olly_plevin: Proper division

@mattfordmusic: Good luck in the final County. Let football justice be served!

@RedRector: 3-2. Never do things the easy way! Notts record breaking season ends up at Wembley! 0-2 down at HT. Disjointed, wasteful loose defending. Then astonishing: Baldwin’s brace, 1st goals for Notts, then superb Jodie Jones winner 10 seconds from the end of ET, his 1st goal for Notts!

@ErnieMcElwee: I think after the season they have just had the battle with Wrexham no one could begrudge Notts County promotion. As a neutral I wish them well.

@TheGothSpecial1: What a advert for the Vanarama National League

@PeteNCFC1862: OMG Notts my heart is still pounding, typical us that , mental , look what it means though, god I love this club ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค
