Norwich respond to fan’s plea to deal with reoccurring messy problem in the stadium on matchdays

Norwich City respond to fan’s plea to deal with a reoccurring a messy problem which happens in the stadium on matchdays.

There is a problem not just on the pitch, but off it too, with a supporter of the struggling Championship outfit urging his club to sort out the “very big issue” that is pigeon poo.

Norwich City season-ticket holder Paul Hobbs has become frustrated at how long this problem has gone on for, and wants something done about it.

He said, per BBC News, Norfolk: “It’s not nice when you’re trying to watch a football game and all you’re concerned about is pigeons; whether they are going to come and divebomb on you or mess on you,” he said.

Paul says this takes place in the Upper Barclay stand, and it’s not just him who is complaining about it, as a number of other fans in the same block complaining being pooed on or finding it on their clothes and in even their hair.

He claims that it has been going on for the last two seasons, first noticing how much of a problem is has become when he discovered a wall covered in pigeon droppings.

“When it first started, the chap in front of us, he got absolutely splattered – he got absolutely covered in it… we just wiped it off… then the following week it started to get worse,” he continued to say.

His wife and daughter are now having to put their hoods up while watching the game to avoid the pigeon mess.

He has become angry at the lacklustre effort when it comes to cleaning the stadium, especially during the close season, saying “Enough is enough.”

A spokesperson for Norwich City FC said: “In previous seasons we have installed nets on the underside of the South Stand roof, as well as the purchasing of various equipment to deter wild birds.

“Further investigations are being conducted to install additional netting on the underside of our other three stands.”

They go on to say that due to the nature of the work, it would need to be completed in the close season, but of course, we’ve just had a close season and there is still a problem, and with the 2024/25 season well underway, it looks like fans have got a long wait before the issue is dealt with, unless it can be done during an international break.

4 days ago, Becky Boring wrote on Facebook about a leak in the roof at Norwich which left her and her son soaked: “Warning – do not sit in Area OU (Joma) Row B, seats 75 & 76 unless you want to spend the entire match looking and feeling like you’ve wet yourself, with sodden shoes thanks to a flooded floor!! Deliberately booked seats which were undercover, but thanks to a leak in the roof my son and I were both soaking wet for the entire game 👍 Speaking to people around us, it sounds like the club have known about this for some time but not fixed it. These pics were from the start, but when the rain got heavy during the second half we were totally soaked!”
