Non league player shows off injury and broken shin pad after tackle only worthy of yellow card

Non league player Harry Critchley shows off an injury and broken shin pad after being on the end of a tackle only worthy of a yellow card.

East Thurrock saw their FA Trophy journey ended at Cray Valley Paper Mills’ DGS Marine Stadium on Saturday afternoon in a match of eight goals and a substantial amount of controversy with the away fans incensed by the performance of match referee Vladyslav Bakulin.

Thurrock Nub News report his whose apparent lack of competent English appeared to hamper not just his game management with players but also with his assistants Anastasiya Voloshchuk and Ericsson Temu.

It was the hosts that broke the deadlock in the 19th minute through a header from Thomas Chambers but the scoreline was levelled eight minutes later by East Thurrock’s Brian Moses who sent his effort past fired past Chris Lewington.

Even by that point, the away side had been frustrated by Mr Bakulin’s decision-making, only booking Millers’ Hassan Ibrahiym for a challenge on Harry Critchley that broke his shin pad and left him with two nasty wounds, which the player showed off after the final whistle.

It looked like the sides would go in on level terms after a fairly even first half, however the match turned in a couple of minutes either side of the interval.

The first coming in added time from Cray Valley PM’s Hassan Ibrahiym and in the opening moments of second Dan Bennett put the hosts well ahead. 3-1.

East Thurrock got one back back having been rewarded with a penalty that Harry Hope converted on the 60th minute. 3-2.

Adam Coombes struck nine minutes from time to restore the host’s two goal lead going into the last ten minutes.

A second spot kick from Hope two minutes later kept East Thurrock in touch but time ran out for any kind of comeback goal.

As the non league player shows off his injury and broken shin pad after a tackle only worthy of a yellow card, the tweet goes viral and gets a huge amount of reactionā€¦

@FatGoalieE15: Wait what the hell?!?

@KaneDougherty_: Hope youā€™re okay but surely a retrospective card/ban/fine for having your own picture on shinpads?

@HarriersNews: Get well soon bro, looks nasty!

@JustJames_24: He mustā€™ve seen your shin pads before kick off, heā€™s done you a favour pal šŸ’€

@rob_maddison: Little scratch. Should have wore better shin pads. Crying on social media won’t bring a red!

@scottda42000879: He wasnā€™t a ref mate end off I wouldnā€™t put him in charge of a child let alone ref a match Iā€™m shocked

@Julian_Cassell: Thatā€™s gonna sting in the shower!!!

@dombrown17: Picture of yourself on your shin pad is a red šŸ˜‚

@bodythejake: Banned for life for having your own picture on your shin pads

@unders007: Are you angry at the ref and want to blame him, or the player who actually did this to you. Look a bit harder at the problem Harry!

@SuggsLola: That’s appalling!

@MarkDolman1: Deserved it wearing personalised shin pads in non league. šŸ¤¢

@hobb1973: Not going to comment of yellow card and does look a nasty injury but the so called shin pads these days are about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide and made of crap materials, these days playes don’t even protect the ankles just tape lol then say, “ref you have a duty of care”

@TransferWestHam: That referee today was an absolute disgrace, how is that only a booking??

@Thomasking94: Yellow for the tackle, straight red for the shin pads

@DaveLudlam: Got the ball ref šŸ¤£

@BigKeithLard: Personalised shinpads in the isthmian league šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

@Kirk42154958: Definitely WENT for the ball! šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøāš½šŸ˜‚ I miss those days.

@HainaultFc: Thatā€™s bad, what on earth was the player doing? tbh the shin pads players wear nowadays are not good, bring back the old ones Reusch etc. hope your back playing soon

@Alexs1056: Players now are wearing shin pads the size of one of those airpod cases it’s ridiculous

@OwenHalyy:
1- Itā€™s a scratch
2- Deserved for them shin pads imo

@fewpints:
What I realised when my son was playing isā€¦ you have literally no protection!
Referees in the main are corrupt and donā€™t care
Coaches have a horse in the race and some are sinister
And bad attitude sinister players get away with murder
And the FA/Leagues are narcs

@Louis__isiah: Having your own pic on your shinpads in non league football deserves a 10 match ban
