7th tier match abandoned due to serious injury – fans dismayed by ambulance wait time

The 7th tier match between Chesham and Merthyr was abandoned due to serious injury – with fans dismayed by the ambulance wait time.

The referee called time on the game just 19 minutes in after Chesham midfielder Jake Peck cried out in agony after a 50-50 challenge with Merthyr’s Tom Handley just outside the the host’s area.

A call went out to ring for an ambulance, but after it had still not arrived 45 minutes later, the referee had little choice but to call the game off.

It’s then claimed then it finally turned up at the ground nearly 2 hours later, with Peck said to have suffered a badly broken leg.

In the few minutes of play, Chesham made the stronger start, making it hard work for the Merthyr defence.

There was a chance for The Martyrs in the 13th minute as Ricardo Rees was able to break away and played a ball across the 6 yard box, Lewis Powell was inches away from getting on the end of it.

Chesham’s Hippolyte-Patrick was also brought down on the edge of the area. Joseph’s effort took a few deflections which took the pace off and the keeper gathered the ball easily.

A few minutes later, there was the break in play here after a serious injury to a Chesham United player.

Players were sent back into the changing rooms as medics treated the injured former Luton youngster Jake Peck, who only recently scored a goal of the season contender. See more on that HERE.

Following the serious injury, the referee has abandoned the game after 19 minutes played due to long wait ahead for the ambulance. Decision made around 40 minutes after the incident happened.

It wasn’t until 7:26pm that Chesham notified their followers online that Peck was taken to hospital.

They wrote: “Unfortunately today’s game was abandoned due to a serious injury sustained by Jake Peck.

“Jake is now on his way to hospital and everyone at Chesham United wishes Jake all the best and a speedy recovery”

Merthyr Town also sent their best wishes. An update on the player’s condition is yet to be revealed. Here’s hoping he’s resting well and has the speediest of recoveries.
