He has eyes on winning the WBO Bantamweight Championship, initially set to be up against Johnriel Casimero this Friday.

However Casimero is in danger of being stripped of the WBO bantamweight title after violating terms of the British Boxing Board of Control’s medical policy regarding the use of saunas prior to a fight.

Casimero (31-4, 21 knockouts) was scheduled to face Butler on Friday in Liverpool, but will not be allowed to do so because of the commission’s strict policy against using saunas to cut weight before a fight.

Evidence of the sauna use came from Casimero’s YouTube channel, where he was seen using a sauna to cut weight after arriving in the UK. The video has now been set to private.

BoxingScene.com have now confirmed that an emergency meeting had been held by the WBO Championship Committee.

This has resulted in Butler being permitted to enter an interim WBO bantamweight title fight vs Philippines’ Jonas Sultan, coming in as replacement for Casimero this Friday at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.

Butler (33-2, 15 KOs) is a former WBO junior bantamweight titleholder, and has won seven straight since his most recent defeat to Emmanuel Rodriguez which came back in 2018.

Prior to hearing about the latest changes to his fight, Butler, who is a hardcore Liverpool fan, claimed he would love to spare with Gary Neville.

Speaking to FourFourTwo ahead of his championship bout, Butler joked he ‘wouldn’t mind’ getting in the ring with the Manchester United legend turned Sky Sports pundit who was left miffed at watching Liverpool hit four past the Red Devils on Tuesday.

Butler said: “I wouldn’t mind a little go at Gary Neville.

“I couldn’t stand him when he played, kissing the badge at the Liverpool fans! As a pundit, I rate him, he and Jamie Carragher are great together. Carragher would love it if I sparred with Neville, wouldn’t he?

“Do you know what, I’d pay good money to see those two have a spar.”

Butler has been part of Sutton Athletic winning the Cheshire Premier League with five games remaining with a cup final coming up.

He goes on to say that he’s never recreated Wayne Rooney’s iconic ‘boxing’ celebration.

BUTLER’S RECORD IN PROFESSIONAL BOXING:

35 fights: 33 wins – 2 losses
By knockout: 15 wins – 1 loss
By decision: 18 wins – 1 loss

While the non league player aims for a world boxing title and wants to spar Gary Neville, Twitter users reacted to the latest news about his fight with Casimero…

@cameron_crease: Couldn’t write it Paul

@Broady83: Madness, some front he’s got

@bigbud01uk: Definitely should have his belts stripped this time!

@SamIngham1989: Not at all surprised Paul, he should be stripped completely. Hope the wbo make this fight for the wbo title as this is the second time on the run now. Gutted for you really mate

@hazzyafc_: Disgraceful From Casimero Should Be Stripped Right Away If He Knew He Couldn’t Make the Weight This Time Round Instead Of Coming All The Way to The Uk For A Couple Of Days Just To Pull Out Of The Fight nights Before Was Pointless Feel For Paul Butler

@1dannyhammo: Anyone with half a brain cell knew he wouldn’t make weight! Fucking strip the fucker and send him home!

@BoxeoBourne: I would say feed Casimero to Inoue later this year as a punishment but that would be a decent payday that he doesn’t deserve. Awful champion.
