The non league community in England have been left shocked after the death of a 26 year old player has been confirmed on Friday.
Tributes have been paid after hearing that Spencer McCall has sadly passed away at the age of 26 following a brave battle with a rare bone cancer
Back in 2018 he suffered what was thought to be a broken leg, but later got diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer.

McCall was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare deadly form of bone cancer in February 2019, and had 14 cycles of chemotherapy as well as three major surgeries throughout in 2019.
He ended up getting the brilliant news that he had been given the all-clear in September of the same year.
His former club, Wingate & Finchley, hosted a tournament involving four others sides that he previously played for last summer which raised more than £3,000 to help him get his life back in order. Hemel had already helped to raise £10,000 for his recovery.
However, he discovered the dreadful news in a routine scan in February 2020 that his cancer returned, this time with more than one tumour in both of his lungs.
In over 48 hours of revealing the news, he raised more than £20,000 overall towards the £90,000 that he needs.
He played for the likes of Wingate & Finchley, Royston Town, Hendon and more recently Hemel Hempstead Town.
Wingate & Finchley chairman Aron Sharpe wrote: “It is with a truly heavy heart that I have to inform all at our club and all of the football community of the passing of our dear friend and former player Spencer McCall.
“Spencer joined the club at the age of thirteen and became a very special part not only of our club but also of my family.
“Being a truly gifted football player was just a small part of the special person Spencer was. In your life you are lucky to count on one hand individuals that leave a lasting impression on you. To have met someone thirty years your junior who became a close friend as well as part of your family was a special gift.
“Spencer was unique in every way. A throwback to a former generation; honest, modest, loyal and full of character. With the heart of a lion he was always someone you wanted by your side.
“Kind and compassionate to all and with a highly knowledgeable mind way beyond his years.
“Spencer, you fought like the lion we knew you were, no one would have had the tenacity or character to take on the destructive monster inside of your body.
“You will leave a huge heart and impression on the football family & the Wingate family.
“We are all truly devastated by your passing.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Spencer’s family, however no words will comfort them through this tragic taking of his life so early.
Fantastic day! Thanks again 👊🏻🔴 @hemelfc https://t.co/pW03cEWY4T

“Spencer thank you for allowing us to be part of your life. You will be missed more than you ever know.
“Very few can, but my boy …….you will always ‘walk with kings’.
“Farewell but not goodbye as your memory will always live on with us, I will make sure of that!
“If ……………
“If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
“If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
“If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
“If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
“Rest in eternal peace Spencer.“

Absolutely heartbreaking news to hear of the passing of former @hemelfc player Spencer McCall, genuinely can’t think straight after finding out.
An amazing young guy who was determined to beat his rare form of bone cancer Ewings Sarcoma. Taken from this world far too early 😭❤
