Non league club Shaftesbury joke they’ve been left ‘skint’ as ex-EFL striker Brett Pitman scores seven in one game with a £75-per-goal bonus.
It’s another season where the 35 year old is scoring goals for fun, having done so previously with AFC Portchester.
But now he’s playing for Shaftesbury, who managed to snatch him off league rivals AFC Portchester having scored 50 goals for them in the 2022/23 season.
Despite making headlines across the country for his outstanding form, Pitman ended up missing out on promotion with AFC Portchester.
They were leaders for majority of the season, but ended up finishing in fourth place on 94 points after 38 games played. AFC Stoneham were third with 95, Bemerton came second with 95, but the champions were Horndean, with 98 points, scoring 126 goals and conceded just 21.
Shaftesbury finished 13th with 36 points that season, but unsurprisingly they are leading the way this time around with 57 points from 24 games played, while AFC Stoneham are 2nd with 55 points from 21 games and AFC Portchester are 3rd with 47 points from 21 games.

On the 30th of December 2023, Pitman put seven past Christchuch in a huge 8-2 win, but reportedly agreed a £75 goalscoring bonus.
It means Shaftesbury picked up an extra £575 on top of his additional wage, and he posed for a photo after the game, holding champagne and a can of 7Up to celebrate being named Player of the Match.
The Shaftesbury social media admin jokingly said that the club had become “skint” because of Pitman, saying in response to a fan: “Beans on toast for us tonight. Skint now.”
Pitman is the league’s top goalscorer, with 38 League goals for the season, more than double the next best – AFC Stoneham’s Duarte Martins (17).
