Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier makes a swipe at Sunderland fans during a gig with Sam Fender performing at the Utilita Arena this week.
The 31 year old Magpies defender made a dig at his club’s rivals as he attended Sam Fender’s first sold-out night with the player currently injured.
He went down to the North Shields singer’s gig on Tuesday night and uploaded a clip of the evening on Twitter, captioned: “What an incredible evening @samfendermusic. Can’t beat the Newcastle crowd, Sunderland where you at? 😂”.

In the video, as seen above, Fender is closing the show out with a hit single ‘Hypersonic Missiles’ as black and white flags wave in the venue.
After getting over 12,000 likes by the following morning, Trippier’s video certainly got the internet talking, and was even top of the United Kingdom Twitter trends with the singer throughout Wednesday.
It’s fair to say the message wasn’t too popular with Black Cats fans, who hit back and recalled previous derby matches while others bragged about the artists who had performed at the Stadium of Light.
Newcastle United big man player Dan Burn was also at the same gig, watching the singer perform from the standing area, enjoying his lofty vantage point.
Big Dan Burn loving a bit of @samfendermusic tonight at the arena!

Sam Fender plays another sold-out show at the Utilita Arena on Wednesday night before going to Scarborough in May, then the Emirates Stadium in June and then is no doubt expected at a number of this summer’s music festivals.

As mentioned, Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier makes a swipe at Sunderland fans during the Sam Fender gig, this is what people had to say…
@JimmyBamborough: Same place you’ll be watching Hendo & Pickford for the World Cup. At home on the settee!
@Addison1978G: Playing for a super rich club, enjoying life going to a concert but the first thing to tweet about is league one Sunderland 🤷🏻♂️
@JackChambers98: Just hosting the likes of Rihanna, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran mate enjoy your local musician
@Darlo_1883: Swift reminder that Newcastle haven’t beat Sunderland in 12 years. The last derby was a 1-1 draw that ended the joy of 6
@nufcislife: Swift reminder it took Sunderland near on 30 years to beat Newcastle in the league at home
@agbnufc_: My RB embracing the local culture, love to see it. 😩👌
@NUFC_BERTIE: There In league 1 mate 🤣🤣
@eab1992: Really strange behaviour this. Newcastle players love mentioning us just to get a few extra likes on twitter. Embarrassing.
@AdamDavison8: Go to watch Sam Fender and somehow still can’t stop thinking about League One Sunderland. Absolutely brilliant 🤣🤣
@Ryannx97: Goes to a music concert… makes it about football. 🤦🏼♂️ Gonna to see Camelphat and ask where the Darlington fans are!
@mattycackpaste: Everything about this is extremely weird. Half the people in there won’t be geordies. Weird. Clearly isn’t Trippier behind that account either. Weird.
@Ginger_Pirlo: Love Tripps.
@GaryTho14219058: Just when you think you can’t love @trippier2 anymore he digs out sunderland. Get on tripps get well soon feels like we’re never gunna lose with you in squad.
@TFMick1892: In Div 3 Kieran 🤣
@PazzaSAFC: Won’t lie I can see the funny side when their players have a dig at us, sometimes ASM tweets can actually be quite funny. But this one makes no sense and is a tragic attempt to lick up the mags arses
@DavidTa41816701: Haha yes tripps
@MarkyToonToon: Gan on Tripps lad , Sam is a proper geordie and great to see
@HeOnlyCost40Mil: All the comments about Newcastle not beating Sunderland man 😂 Might get the chance if yous could ever get out of League 1 😂😂🙈
@nicholaswilso11: We’re just stopping you from smashing up your own city again
@callumsafc_: Don’t know why we’re living rent free in your head little Kieran, hope that injury killed fella. 👍🏻
@Capt_Fishpaste: An absolutely bizarre phenomenon how many footballers sign for Newcastle then start tweeting about Sunderland. The blood money of beheaders obviously doesn’t buy you intelligence, but you’d think it’d at least buy you a social media team that doesn’t make you look stupid.
@LeeDForster: Love a bit of Mackem baiting does wor @trippier2 🤣 #NUFC ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
@peterha94080751: Even the players are obsessed ✊💦FTM
@alyssahanx: Think you’re getting confused Kieran fella, this is a concert where people listen to music.
@mackeminmokum: Rent free…..
@Simmysafc: Trippier happy to accept blood money then giving it big licks about Sunderland 😂
@wyilegeordie: 3rd tier, that’s where 🎤💥 Sam Fender is a class act, i hope everyone had a crackin night.
@Kie_Green: Glad to be living rent free still. A gig that has absolutley no bearing on sunderland. Saint-Maximin 2.0
@LewisMishner_: The bloke has caught some big bites on this one mind hahahahahahahah a love him
@JackHuntley1996: Richest club in the world. Goes to a gig in Newcastle but all he can think off is little old league 1 sunderland. TRAGIC 🤦♂️🤣
@mickeykfunky: There may well be Sunderland fans in the crowd….and the concert was in Newcastle so why even mention Sunderland? It was a pop concert mate…. not a football match, I don’t think they sold away tickets for it! 😂😂
@RJPalliser10: How does Sunderland end up getting mentioned from a video of a Mag Gig in Newcastle? Odd bunch
