A disappointed Newcastle United are set to take action over Joelinton’s social media post which was posted on his Instagram this week.
The striker posted a picture of himself getting a haircut on his Instagram account on Friday, before then quickly deleting the post, but now the club will be taking internal action.
The Magpies suffered an outbreak of Covid back in December and were forced to shut training ground, so it’s no wonder they will be taking this seriously.
Joelinton, 24, published the pic of himself in a barber shop while getting a haircut, without observing social distancing guidelines.
The post was quickly got rid of but Joelinton’s actions have been noticed by the Premier League club, who will be taking internal action.
“We are disappointed by the image shared by Joelinton,” said a Newcastle club spokesperson.
“There are clear COVID-19 protocols in place and the club continues to guide and educate its players on their responsibilities.
“The club will be taking appropriate action internally.”
Barber shops and hairdressers are not permitted to be open as per regulations set out in the national lockdown, which started on the 5th of January.
Newcastle suffered an outbreak in December and were forced to shut their training ground due to a number of players and club staff testing positive.
The likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Allan Saint-Maximin, Isaac Hayden and Federico Fernandez were among the players who tested positive and were sidelined.
Joelinton has so far found the net on three occasions in 54 Premier League appearances for Newcastle since joining from Hoffenheim in a £40m deal in 2019.
It remains to be seen how much of a part Joelinton plays at Everton or whether he will instead be handed a club fine.
Newcastle won’t be the first club to take action over a haircut in lockdown just like Joelinton’s social media post as other players also broke the rules within the last year for the same thing.
AFC Bournemouth’s Jordon Ibe, breaks lockdown rules for a haircut and has since apologised in a statement.
The former Liverpool midfielder was investigated for posting a picture on Instagram of himself getting his new trim.
In the deleted photo, he could be seen wearing a coat which had the slogan ‘Breaking the rules’. Fitting eh?
Both males are seen wearing face masks, though Ibe claims he didn’t realise he was breaching lockdown rules. Something that seems to be the case with many top flight stars during this pandemic,
“I didn’t think it through and I apologise,” said the 24-year-old in a statement. “I made sure to wear protective equipment but I didn’t realise it was in breach of the guidelines.
“There wasn’t any intent to disobey the guidelines and as soon as it was brought to my attention, I took the post down immediately.”
Fans reacted with Newcastle set to take action over Joelinton’s social media post, see what they had to say below…
@Armdog1007: Can you also remind him of his duties as a striker whilst you’re there
@jack_hassard: A £40million fine would do justice
@LeePercival3: Can’t believe he did it so silly
@Shawn_M: This could be the best thing to happen to us if it means he misses matches.
@BFC84Ash: Remind him?! After an outbreak at the club a few weeks back he should be heavily fined by both the club and the FA !
@localhero1980: #isitok That Newcastle striker Joelinton has the audacity to post himself getting a haircut yet he ain’t quite cutting it at Newcastle #nufc #thecheek
@whitestu1: Hope it’s not too trivial and they take it seriously
@thetoonreview: So Joelinton has been a naughty boy breaking Covid rules so hopefully the club will put him in isolation for the remainder of the season!! #NUFC
@wales_shaun: Terminate his contract
@adzy_90: Only option is to release him and make and example of him
@nlittle1892: They are gonna make him watch his performances all over again as punishment
@DannyBe38695655: Bit of luck they suspend him indefinitely
@stevengoica83: Any chance you could ask the club to stick him in Isolation for the rest of the season
@NUFCWaless: Joelinton… more haircuts than goals in a lockdown…
@LittleHenryD: We’ve been isolating our attack from the rest of the players on the pitch during all our matches anyway
@fatgeordiemessi: Joelinton caught having a haircut. Club statement says he’ll be punished accordingly. Obviously that means starting the next 10 games
@cameronwatt1892: Club comments on joe getting a haircut but not anything that needs to be spoken about
@CallumCummings_: #nufc taking action against Joelinton for breaking lockdown rules and getting a haircut, once again showing exactly why he’s only a fringe player…
@ShaneSaunders88: Joelinton going to get a haircut will lead to about 20 statements from the club but when it comes to actual footballing matters they don’t want to know.
@Spencer938: They’ve been trying to remind him of his goal scoring responsibilities for a few years now I don’t think he will take it on board
