Newcastle players took to applaud a half empty away end with fans feeling frustrated after their side’s 4-2 defeat to Brentford.
A thrilling start to the match witnessed both teams finding the net within the first 12 minutes, as Bryan Mbeumo’s initial goal was cancelled out by Alexander Isak.
Yoane Wissa then put Brentford back in front with his ninth goal in eight league matches, jumping on a mistake by Harvey Barnes, who then redeemed himself with an impressive turn and finish, to level the score at 2-2.
Early in the second half, Wissa nearly scored again for Brentford, but his deflected shot had been well saved by Nick Pope, who redirected it onto the post.
Brentford were too strong however, going 3-2 up when Nathan Collins managed to score with a left-footed shot following a free-kick.
And Kevin Schade added to the scoreline late on, making sure that Brentford achieved seven victories and one draw in their eight home league matches this season.
The Bees’ victory sees them stay unbeaten at home in the Premier League, Thomas Frank’s side up to sixth; while Newcastle are now without a win in four games.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Sport: “Really frustrating, we are really disappointed with the manner of goals we conceded. It”s not even individual mistakes, there’s two or three actions I’m not happy with for each goal. We have to do better in those situations.
“We had control of the game in the first half, then it got away from us after the third goal. We looked like a good attacking unit, but we have to put it all together and it has led to inconsistent results.
On their recent form, with no win in four games: “A strange sequence for us, we had three consecutive wins against really good opponents, then we have had mixed performances. We have to get it over the line.”
Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes, speaking to Premier League Productions: “Very disappointing. In the first half we had some very good moments, but after the third goal we lost our way, we lost control.
“We have always been reactive, we need to conced a goal to score. We never score first, we concede a lot of goals, this cannot happen. We have to find a way to be consistent.
“We had to change in the first half to get into the game. But after we conceded the third we became a mess, we gave the ball away a lot and we were punished,. I want to thank the fans coming in not good weather, now we have a week to try and recover and beat Leicester at home.
“We have to turn things around. Last season we had one of the best defences in the league, now we concede a lot. This is about the whole team, we have to find a way not to concede.”
Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker: “Very happy, it was a great performance in many ways. The way we performed today physically and with quality against a very good Newcastle side, I am very proud of my players.
“We started well last season for 11 or 12 games, then injuries hit us hard. So we have tried to add layers, be more controlled and make more breakthroughs, playing more forward. We have showed we have a lot of good offensive players.
“[Yoann] Wissa, the way he links up and goes forward, and gets in behind the back line for tap ins. And Bryan Mbeumo today was unplayable. The way he holds the ball up and links play, like today to Kevin Schade [for the fourth goal] was very impressive.
“I would like to carry on this home form – some wins on the road would be welcome too.
“The players are growing, a lot of the players here for a while have taken another step up. It is a very good team, I hope the fans are happy.”
Brentford defender and goalscorer Nathan Collins, speaking to Premier League Productions: “One of the best results you can have in that weather, both sides were struggling, the wind was carnage.
On his goal: “I’m working on my finishing, the lads give me stick! I try my best.”
On twice conceding quickly after scoring: “It just seems to be goal fests every time at this stadium. Three points today though, and the defence is something to worry about on Monday.”
On Igor Thiago, who made his first Brentford start today: “Thiago gives us a different feeling in the game. With his zipping it around it’s going to be carnage.”
On Brentford’s excellent home form: “It’s this group, the fans, the club, everyone involved. It goes through us all, we are heading the right way.”
"I'm very impressed with the team's intensity throughout the game" 💪

Twitter users reacted as Newcastle players applaud a half empty away end with their fans frustrated after the 4-2 defeat to Brentford…
@ISimpson73: How many times do you need to see playing Bruno in the #6 role doesn’t work? He gets caught on the ball, offers no protection for the back 4 & is nowhere near as creative!!!
@agbnufc_: I think those comments are fair, other than the ‘uncharacteristic’ line it’s the complete opposite. These players are constantly putting in terrible performances away for 18 months.
@Music_Hoppy: This is just what we are atm. Mid table. Will turn up for some games and totally roll over in others. Howe can take some blame but it’s so clear we are lacking the quality from not strengthening for multiple transfer windows. Stick with Howe but he needs backing
@holst24: Because of the weather wey give owa man, honestly you couldnt make it up
@ScubaSteve1583: Appalling! Nowhere near food enough. No progress in the last 18+ months. If the manager can get us playing against City, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool what’s the point when we can’t against Brentford, Palace, West Ham, Wolves etc There has to be serious questions being asked
@Steven_D_Rogers: Let’s see what are owners patience looks like. I’m not Howe Out but given our results against the so called better team we should be higher than we are. Feels like we have been sussed by teams who feel they need a plan against us
@XrpNufcFanRich: Not good enough. All very well drawing with Liverpool, City and beating Arsenal but when we cannit beat teams we should be beating…makes it all redundant.
@AngelNufc: ONE shot on target in 60 minutes when losing is unaceptable, what is going on? If we don’t sign anyone in January we will finish in the bottom 6.
@_MatthewMcGahey: Start Sandro, give Osula minutes.
@ToonFan14: I think it’s time for a change. Thanks to Eddie for everything but it’s clear we are not getting better. Good performances followed with rubbish, no consistency. Nowhere near Europe places in points and performance
@ChrisBlack10: Conceded really poor goals today. From the team that finished 4th,we’ve got a good few that have aged for the worse,Pope more than anyone IMO.Frustrating that we haven’t touched this 11 in 2 windows & it’s showing. Jan we must add 1/2 or this season might become a non event #NUFC
@Philip_BurnToon: Poor performance all round and some particularly baffling defending from Schar today. Positioning and decision making awful against a bright Brentford attack. In Eddie We Trust but the inconsistency is sure testing the faith! #NUFC
