Leicester have initiated talks with the Welshman regarding the possibility of him being the replacement for Enzo Maresca, who was recently left for Chelsea.
The Foxes are making preparations for their return to the Premier League after securing promotion by winning the Championship title last season.
Reports claimed that Leicester were interested in West Brom’s Carlos Corberan, initially seen as the frontrunner for the vacant role.
There were suggestions that the financial compensation required for his appointment could pose a challenge.
But now it has emerged per BBC West Midlands that there has been ‘no contact from Leicester’ ahead of any potential move with Corberan, ‘committed to West Brom’, and in ‘daily communication with Albion’ over plans for next season, including incomings and outgoings in the summer transfer window.
Back on Cooper now and the potential appointment of Cooper is causing a divide among the Leicester fanbase, not just because he managed Forest, but there are also concerns about how his tactical ‘largely pragmatic’ approach can suit a team who were used to Maresca’s possession-based style of play.
Leicester though are taking interest in Cooper’s adaptability, having looked into his tenure at Swansea, when he adopted a possession-oriented style of play.

This is what fans are saying amid a new twist in Leicester’s search for new manager with talks held after making an approach…
@baxterlcfc: Looking like Steve Cooper, cheap option with no compo, ignoring the forest connection I think he’s alright #lcfc
@lcgraphix2018: Once again the board look to be going for the safe option 🙄 #lcfc
@Frank_Wightman: The uproar from #LCFC fans approaching Steve Cooper for the manager’s job reminds me of the backlash from some when we appointed Ranieri 👀
@Dan_1884: Our fans live in fantasy land they really do. ‘I want Potter’. Well, unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury of cherry picking high profile managers because the club is fucked and we are almost certain to be repeated. Some of our fans need to realise where we are. #lcfc
@The_Own_Goal: Poor choice of job for Cooper imo. With all the financial stuff they’re going through he’s not going to be able to reinforce…
@jaacknffc: Cooper won’t tarnish fuck all if he goes to Leicester, got us back into the big time, kept us there and gave us some of our best times supporting this club. Games the game. That being said I hope he flops and they’re down by Christmas
@SamLCFC98: wtf are we doing
@YouBloodyReds: Wont take any issue with Steve Cooper is he goes to Leicester City. He deserves another go in the Premier League. Could be a tough gig in the circumstances, but all the best to him. #NFFC #LCFC
@Dan_1884: ‘But Steve Cooper managed Forest’. Right, well Wes Morgan, our PL winning captain, captained Forest. We’re a fanbase full of mongs we really are. #lcfc
@tubbytriathlete: Season ticket return policy please
@robbo_lcfc: Absolutely not!
@JoshRHammonds: Noooooo – please no!
@JackJdmccarthy: How many Leicester fans are doing a quick tl search, must be some horror tweets towards him 😬
@harboroughfox19: It’s actually going to be Steve cooper 😂😳
@JoLeKo011: Steve Cooper for City manager. Not actually a bad choice. Yeah the Forest connection is there. But it was with O’Neil too and he worked out alright.
@Dan_1884: Leicester fans out there turning their noses up at Steve Cooper as if we’re not a club in financial cripple with a 10 plus point deduction that has to sell players and cant buy more than 3. We have some cheek. #lcfc
@dongoss92: Fucking Steve Cooper, a massively underwhelming appointment.
@lcfc_pure: in a season where we need the entire fan base to unite and get behind the team and manager, we decide to get Steve cooper…
@alexburrows148: This feels similar to the Dean Smith appointment. Rushed and careless. 🤦♂️
@AA_LCFC: Man i rather get moyes in then. Need to get a coach that’s going to be respected. Cooper????
@lcfcjoss: Leicester Championship winners 25/26
@mattyfromle: I just don’t understand why Cooper would be of interest to us. Surely we’d go for someone similar to Enzo due to the majority of our players having spent all last season learning the system. I couldn’t even tell you what style of football Cooper played. 🤷🏻♂️ It’s not even just because he’s ex Forest. I genuinely don’t see the appeal (other than him potentially being the cheap option). Surely the club knows that (with the Forest affiliation) that it will go down like a lead balloon?
@dawn_lcfc: He also got sacked by Forest because he was taking them down. If any truth in it, it would be very disappointing appointment
@ninety_six96: Park Forest (where he actually did everything asked of him amid chaotic transfers outside his control) and his record with Swansea and England youth is very good. He doesn’t really have a failure on his CV and he’s free. Van Nistelrooy would be closer to Maresca in terms of style
Not sure why some are so against Steve Cooper coming to Leicester. Took Forest from bottom of the championship into the premier league and kept them there.
His teams can play some decent stuff too
