Mixed reaction to ‘never before seen’ bold design for Chelsea’s 2024/25 sponsorless home kit

There is plenty of mixed reaction from fans to ‘never before seen’ bold design for Chelsea’s 2024/25 sponsorless home kit.

They unveiled its new home kit, designed by Nike, and while some rather liked the new look, others expressed strong disapproval, with some calling it the worst kit in their history.

The club say that the design is inspired by “that fire that burns inside every blue”, as can be seen in their video below.

For the first time in their history, it combines the traditional blue and white orange. The logos are in light blue, outlined with “Team Orange”, and have a 3D effect.

But it’s also the all-over wavy design, vaguely reminiscent of the effect of a foam ocean wave on both the shirt and shorts that has got everyone talking.

STATEMENT:

Chelsea Football Club and Nike are thrilled to unveil our latest home kit for the upcoming season, featuring a bold new design that has never been seen before on a Chelsea shirt.

A new era under head coaches Enzo Maresca and Sonia Bompastor brings with it new energy, new passion, and a new fire.

The hottest part of the flame burns blue

The centrepiece of the new home shirt is the vibrant blue colour, symbolising the hottest part of a flame, and the burning passion to unite the entire club behind a shared ambition to succeed on and off the pitch.

Adding a unique touch to the design, an orange accent colour represents a different kind of fire coming through the ranks at the club.

Chelsea’s Cobham training centre is world-renowned for nurturing talent onto the world’s stage. Our current Men’s and Women’s squad are a blend of exciting homegrown and international youth talent, ready to make their mark. This orange accent serves as a symbol of their vibrant energy and potential.

Continuing the story of Chelsea’s historic success and the dynamic culture of London, the home shirt features a distinctive ‘melting pot’ pattern. Resembling liquid gold and silver, this pattern represents the fusion of Chelsea’s rich legacy with the ever-hot youth culture of the city.

It is a symbol of the club’s past achievements and our commitment to embracing the future.

Chelsea is a passionate, diverse global community. One that embraces pioneers, expects excellence and plays with a burning pride. Our home shirt is a showcase of that. This is the fans’ energy. The players’ energy. The city’s energy. We Burn Blue.

The new Chelsea home shirt is set to become an iconic symbol of the club’s spirit and ambition. Fans can proudly wear it and show their support for the team as we embark together on another exciting season.

Technical innovation using 4D data-driven design

Chelsea’s 2024/25 men’s and women’s kits are made with Dri-FIT ADV, Nike’s pinnacle standard for performance apparel. Through data measured using advanced body-mapping technology, this season’s kits provide mobility, breathability and venting exactly where needed most.

The technical innovation sets new standards in designing for precision-tuned athletic performance. Each element of the kit was enhanced using 4D data-driven design and computational design methods.

Infusing new energy into the colour direction, Nike’s design takes traditional club colours and augments them through the lens of light and movement. The home kit pushes the colour palette in a unique direction while maintaining the club’s aesthetic identity.

The new men’s, women’s and kids’ kits will be on sale from 15 July from our online store and the Megastore at Stamford Bridge.

Retail shirts available to buy worldwide from today will have no ‘front of shirt’ branding.

If a ‘front of shirt’ partner is subsequently announced in the future, fans will have the opportunity to purchase this version via the Megastore or online store.

Unfortunately, the club cannot offer fans the opportunity to return blank shirts for partner branding to be applied post-purchase at any retail site.

As mentioned, there was mixed reaction to the ‘never before seen’ bold design for Chelsea’s 2024/25 sponsorless home kit…

@VdykCFC: That is the worst kit we’ve ever had

@TheTacticalBrit: Quite possibly could be the worst kit of the last 20 years.

@DanSilvs73: IMO – This kit very much like the new ownerships reign to date. Abysmal and disappointing and not a lot of connection to supporting Chelsea. Really is bad bad kit. @nikefootball own goal again. I am from memory sure every @adidasfootball was top notch

@bluueisthecolour: deffo gunna buy that

@CFCMod_: Genuinely thought it would look better on the players 🕊️

@Shann1301: This is the worst one right… Nike just seem to be getting worse at this 💀

@paullakey: i don’t see what everyone’s moaning about, i rather like that

@TheTrout91: From one of the best kits we’ve ever had last year, to this monstrosity that will cost £100+

@will_tosh03: I don’t hate it but we need Adidas back

@froeverayellow: got to admit, it looks good on the video, but will have to see if it grows on me over time, there’s a lot to take in with it. no doubt it’ll sell well especially with it being different and controversial

@Michael_Catling: I’m struggling to think of a worse design for a home shirt than the monstrosity Chelsea have released this morning. I’ll never understand why they don’t consult with fans first considering they are the ones paying astronomical sums to purchase one. I doubt many will this time!

@Lukeyboy_CFC: As if Life could get any worse right now… we go an release an all time stinker

@ChelseaIoanArmy: Should have had a dragon breath blue fire and then had Palmer emerge from the flames doing the cold cele

@Bush6386: Every other club who has Nike get plain kits or small detail like Liverpool with pin strip from the 80s for example. We get this monstrosity

@StuartBoyd83: That is fucking rank. I miss the Samsung days where it was just a plain blue fkn kit. That’s genuinely horrid.

@eddiecfc: i think it’s good that the club/nike have gone for something different, and thats why i reckon sales will still be good regardless of any negativity.

@Paulius98: Gotta be the worst Chelsea kit I’ve seen

@LeeCavanagh1905: Morning after a Euros final & the kit is diabolical as well. Such a finished club. Hate you honestly. Read the room.

@ytalksfootball: Tragic kit 💀 Time to move back to Adidas

@allaboutchels: i’m buying it, don’t get the hate, i’ve such much worse kits than this.

@CFC_Winter: I’m rating this kit 3/10 the worst kit ever, @Nike WTF is wrong with you guys?😭😭

@Edcooper98: Lose the euros then wake up to see we’ve dropped the leaked horror show of a kit. What a terrible 12 hours. Bring back adidas man please I’m begging you 😭😭😭
