According to reports, Millwall made an approach for Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth over the weekend.
The Championship club also enquired about potential compensation for the Chairboys boss, who is the second longest serving EFL manager.
Gary Rowett is the current favourite to take over according to Sky Bet, are the two names in the frame for the job of succeeding Neil Harris in The Den dugout.
Tim Cahill, Phil Parkinson and caretaker Adam Barrett are the other managers listed and to be in contention with getting the job.
Wycombe also gave Ainsworth permission to talk with managerless Sunderland and was on a long list of candidates at Reading, but the latter announced Mark Bowen on Monday.
Coach Adam Barrett has been put in caretaker charge and is said to be expected to be in charge for their match against Brentford on Saturday.
