Bala Town are delighted to announce the huge signing of former Wales player Dave Edwards!
The 35 year old signs with the Lakesiders having been released by his former side Shrewsbury Town in League One.
The former Wales international made over 500 league appearances between four clubs, which include Luton Town, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Reading and two spells with Shrewsbury Town. He’s also played in the top five divisions of English Football, from the National League right up to the Premier League, in which he spent three seasons with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the top division.
The Midfielder has also scored on over 70 occassions in his footballing career, not to mention his three international goals while representing Wales.
Edwards has been capped 43 times for the Wales National Team, between the years of 2007 and 2017. He also represented Wales at the 2016 European Championships, where they got to the semi-finals after a heroic 3-1 win over the number 1 ranked side Belgium. He then retired from international football in 2018.
Edwards will join former teammates Chris Venables and Steven Leslie, where they all played together in the youth system at Shrewsbury Town.
Edwards will wear the number 19 shirt for the Town.
Manager Colin Caton had this to say about his new signing;
“It’s great to have Dave Edwards on board, he’s an unbelievable signing and an unbelievable capture for the club. I spoke to Dave on a couple of occassions while Charlie (My Son) was training with Shrewsbury, we had a couple of good chats but never thought he’d be interested in the Cymru Premier”
“He’s been great with Charlie since he’s been at Shrewsbury and asked him (Charlie) a couple of questions about the Cymru Premier before the end of the season and asked about Bala, he was sort of deciding then whether he was staying full-time or part-time. He was obviously interested in playing part-time so I sent him a message earlier after the season had finished to give him time to think about it”
“To get him on board is absolutely fantastic, he’s played with Chris Venables before (During their time at Shrewsbury Town) and he knows a couple of the lads like Antony Kay who he’s played against in the leagues. He was a pleasure to deal with, and he’s going to add so much to us as a player, as a person, and his knowledge, and his experience around the dressing room is going to be second to none.
“It’s a great capture for us and a pleasure to have him joining the club”

@celtcymru: Caton must be the luckiest manager in the league for the past 10 years still in a job , all the money he’s spent and no higher than 3rd, all the excuses under the sun the manager that keeps on taking
@Antonoire: Kinda difficult with the top 2 usually getting Champions League money. I’d say he’s done a fantastic job tbh
@iansheds: He’s done a fantastic job and built several different teams over the years. Consistently finishes in Europe while competing against full time teams. Once a week training versus training all week yet he is lucky to be in a job! Also took the club up the pyramid.

@WestWalesEd: Jesus that’s a signing fair play 😳
@alt_wales: What ex-2016 squad player will turn up in the Cymru Prem next? Neil Taylor to Cefn Druids, Joe Ledley to Penybont, Hal Robson-Kanu to Newtown?

@nathan_coyle: Loved @_DaveEdwards at #WWFC, I wish him every success, at 35 I thought he could do a job in the English leagues though but it’s going to be ridiculous seeing him in @CymruLeagues, it’s going to be like Ronaldo playing against Bilston u9s #wolvesaywe #wolvesfc #JDCymruPremier
