Mason Greenwood ‘likes’ a heartbreaking Instagram post as media and fan abuse sadly continues since his mishap in Iceland.
His antics with Phil Foden while on international duty was national news, making the front pages of newspaper and saw his name trending for days on end on social media.
He has also had to go through the emotions of losing former Manchester City youngster Jeremy Wisten last month to suicide because the Premier League club didn’t take him on yet was promised for big things.

Greenwood lit up the 2019/20 campaign, breaking through the first team and scoring 18 times in 50 games. However a dismal start so far in 2020/21, the 19-year-old has found the net twice in nine games.
Worrying are reports are emerging within the last week, claiming that Manchester United are growing concerned with Greenwood’s attitude and lifestyle. The Daily Mail claim the club are afraid he’s not getting enough sleep.
Another article was written, this time by The Times, saying that Bruno Fernandes slammed Greenwood after he refused to run for a pass during a training session.

Now Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend is urging the youngster to see a sports psychologist to help him get through his problems.
“He needs players around him like Harry Maguire, experienced players who have been through it, to put their arm around him,” Townsend said on talkSPORT.
“He needs his manager to stay by his side, which I know Ole probably will.
“He needs family and good friends around him, and the other thing is he needs to see a sports psychologist.
“Somebody who has spoken to other players in his position and who knows what’s going on from the outside to help him through it.”
Greenwood has taken to social media to explain what he’s going through by liking an Instagram post urging the media and fans to leave him alone.
The post reads: “‘Greenwood looks tired’ ‘Greenwood isn’t trying hard enough’ ‘Greenwood needs to fix up’.
“Mason Greenwood has just lost a close friend to suicide [Wisten] and has been endlessly attacked and abused by football fans and the media for months now, leave the kid alone.”
Greenwood pressed the ‘like’ button, agreeing that he wants the media and fans to stop hounding him.
Former footballer Andy Cole thinks Greenwood doesn’t deserve to be under such intense scrutiny at his age, and has called for the media to get off his back so that he can focus on returning to his best level on the pitch.

“He’s a star in the making. If he gets his head right then he’s definitely a star in the making. One hundred per cent,” the United legend told The Daily Mirror.
“I’m hoping he will come through this. What’s really upset me through this situation is I’m not sure why everyone keeps hounding him the way they do.
“He’s a baby. If you don’t make mistakes when you’re a baby, when do you make your mistakes? In your 50s? He’s a boy and he’s made mistakes, he’s held his hands up, let him go out there and play his football.
“Now judge him on his football because if we’re judging him as an 18-year-old boy against what the average 18-year-old gets up to then we’ll see what they all get up to.
“Judge him on his ability, he’s made a mistake and apologised and now, please, just let him play his football now. They’ve left Foden alone, but let’s continue to hammer Greenwood. It’s just not right.
“He’s got so much to his game, he can go both sides, he can score goals and do everything. I’m sure that he can come through this.”

Excuse me … if you listened to what I said ! … I made no rant … I questioned why this information would find its way into the media ….
I know people such as yourself are not interested in detail but maybe listen to what was actually said … rather than assume

He was being attacked for making a career ending challenge not losing a mate to suicide

But in addition to this… the media don’t help. Following the incident with Foden, where leaving him out the next squad was IMO the best move by Southgate. He’s done nothing wrong, yet Sky, BBC, newspapers all give constant grief to a lad who hasn’t exactly done anything wrong

He is England’s biggest talent and they’re targeting him?♂️

Pundits included… then that kicks off the twitter, insta, Facebook pundits.
One poor game and all players get abuse

Leave the lad alone, when will we stop building them up to knock them down. I am a Liverpool fan to give this context and Greenwood looks like he could be a world class player. Let’s hope the press report on news worthy stories and leave the lad to make mistakes and play football
