Mark Molesley’s interview goes viral again after Aldershot confirm decision to sack him

Mark Molesley’s interview goes viral again after Aldershot Town confirm a decision to sack him after suffering a 2-0 loss at Chelmsford City.

The former footballer turned manager has been got rid off with the club sitting 22nd in the National League table with 11 points from 13 games and were also dumped out of the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round on Saturday.

Molesley and ex-Terras assistant Tom Prodomo were shown the door hours after defeat to the Clarets who play in the National League South.

Charlie Ruff and Henry Ochieng scored a goal in each half to condemn the Shots to another defeat, coming amid a poor start to the National League season, with Aldershot winless in five matches in all competitions.

After losing to Chelmsford, Mark said: “The lack of professionalism from us today, can’t say we’re unlucky, we had some chances but not enough chances for us. It’s always going to be tricky, a windy day, narrow pitch but again no excuses, we’ve got to deal with these situations and again naivety and immaturity has cost us again and going forward they’re going to be stronger for it in their careers, these are the moments that hopefully teach them and they’ll learn from and sadly as a manager you don’t always get the luxury of the time that a player has to learn and grow and we’ve probably got you know too many out there earning their trade.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Aldershot Town Football Club can confirm that First-Team Manager Mark Molesley and Assistant Manager Tom Prodomo have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect.

Terry Brown will take temporary charge of first-team affairs whilst the club begin the search for a permanent successor.

We would like to thank Mark and Tom for their hard work over the last year and wish them well for the future.

– STATEMENT ENDS –

In light of the news that h has been sacked, it saw footage of his pre-match interview ahead of their FA Trophy tie with Bromley last season do the rounds on social media again.

The interviewee can be heard: “Mark, FA trophy tie against Bromley this weekend, what are your thoughts?”

Molesley replied: “If a tree falls, and if no one is there to hear it fall, does it make a noise? So does a penguin get cold? What way does your bath water go? Clockwise or anticlockwise when you take the plug out.

“These are questions that are going to be asked of us, these are questions we have to have answers to.

“We are looking for solutions and we have to solve the equation sometimes.

“Sam has had a lovely haircut, it’s started to grow out now. Coops is here working silently away. Robbie’s over there, it’s the first time he’s been quiet today.

“Terry has bought a briefcase in, you know, he’s got four Japanese talking dogs in there. But you know this is what we work with, and we will continue to work hard.”

This is how Twitter reacted as Mark Molesley’s interview goes viral again after Aldershot confirm a decision to sack him…

@antbatson: The whole thing is just really really sad. I’m heartbroken what’s happening to my club. 🔴💔🔵

@TweetOfWill: I liked Mark, and although a technicality he did keep us up. But something had give.

@walkerg59: Right, now we need an interview process not a cheap manager

@GaryPainter22: Always a club legend but time for a proper manager now

@007claw: Sadly he’s wasn’t the man for the job from the day of appointment. Didn’t have enough experience & knowledge. Best of luck Mark

@alfonzo_dean: Get azeem out now

@RYANscollard25: #AzeemOut next!!!!

@TerwitTwoo: Just the Chairman to go and we can all come back. Won’t be doing so until that happens.

@bennieyeSUFC: Lovely bloke and will probably make a good youth team coach somewhere half decent but as a first team manager, he just hasn’t got that edge about him unfortunately. Really wanted him to do well at Southend and to be fair to him it was that covid season but he’s just not up to it.

@hellofromchris: Very sad it hasn’t worked out for Mark but ultimately its the right decision. Now we need an announcement that the club is officially up for sale.

@jimmy_g87: Great guy and a great player in which he gave us plenty of memories, it was an appointment we supporters could get behind at the time and I’m gutted it didn’t work out the way we wanted it to, this is the right decision and the right time to go.

@nlmusings: Oh. Don’t know if I’m surprised they’ve acted early. Molesley not dealt a great hand but always comes back to result. Was finding them quite fun, albeit they couldn’t quite find a way to shut the back door.

@neale_billy: Where does he go now? Always love mark and what he did for us and accept he had a great opportunity when he left but surely his stock has fallen now?

@ScottWe72892802: Feel sorry for the bloke but he was never going to get anywhere with that useless cunt in charge. Was unreal for us as a player that shouldn’t be forgotten but the message doesn’t change #azeemout

@RobHolder92: No real surprise, but we all know where the real issue lies at the club.

@tomhwilliams23: Managerial casualty, seemed on the cards for a while as the jury was out on Molesley. Interesting to see how they go now, hope they do well especially as they have our man on loan Frank Vincent

@RhysJBE: I will never forget his contributions as a player. But as a manager it hasn’t worked. All the best Mark. The club need to take the time to get the right manager and we need to look to the future not the past.

@ShaunBrown995: Mark is a club legend but this is definitely the right call. Let’s draw a line under the last 3 months and focus on getting in a tactically astute manager who can guide us towards mid-table.

@ATFC_Brady: Great player, but sadly his time as manager was very poor… wishing him the best at his future clubs. Now please shahid hire a manager with national league experience and success. If you have to put your hand in your pocket and go after someone like Maynard from Wealdstone..

@LeviDarch: THANK GOD. Azeem next please

@johnshunt1: Inevitable really given the poor results / performances. Such a shame really wanted Mark to succeed but in good hands with TB until a replacement is found. 🔴🔵

@lewiswray: Thomas Tuchel in?

@sfc_nolan: Shouldn’t have ended like this, always will be part of the club but needed to go, didn’t work move on. Azeem out next. 1 down 1 to go 🔴🔵

@TomHumphrey93: Not a huge surprise, especially after today’s result. Club has been on a downward spiral for quite a while now, sadly.

@IanPearce100: Very sad to end this way. Not enough credit for keeping the team up last year given what was inherited. Struggle to see anyone else doing much better.

@SallyButler1985: For the best but will always be a club legend as a player ❤️💙
