Mark McAdam hits back after criticism for his Arsenal comment after Alexander Isak’s goal for Newcastle vs Southampton on Saturday.
Alexander Isak put Newcastle into the lead with his 17th Premier League goal of the season, with a video of McAdam’s report being posted on Sky Sports’ social media.
McAdam says in the clip: “Quite remarkable. Alexander Isak is the man that so many Arsenal fans want the Gunners to sign, and he’s proving just why he’s now got his second goal of the game and given Newcastle a 2 one lead. And it’s all thanks to the brilliant work from Jacob Murphy who just drops deep, picks up the ball, drives into midfield, and then finds an exquisite pass between the 2 CBs. Alexander Isak takes a good touch. The first touch just takes it away from the defender. And like Thierry Henry, he opens his body up in front of goal and then caresses it side, puts it past Alex McCarthy into that bottom corner. It’s his 17th Premier League goal of the season. You can hear the Newcastle fans. They are loving life down on the South Coast.”
This quickly went viral, with it not doing down well with Newcastle fans. It also saw Luke Edwards, a Northern Football Writer for the Daily Telegraph, take issue with it by saying “Striker scores for Newcastle, so let’s talk about Arsenal signing him immediately 🤣🤣🤣”
McAdam replied: “Not fancy talking to my face Luke ? I was at the game and always happy to chat. Especially after some of the recent questions in press conferences I’ve seen from you. Imagine if I went straight on Twitter to have a pop… Live TV is live TV.”
Luke Edwards responded: “I’ll happily talk to your face but I wasn’t at the game today. It just seemed a strange way to start talking about Isak scoring for Newcastle to me and it’s been going on for weeks at Sky, framing everything about when he leaves. It’s annoying. I was making a lighthearted comment hence the laughing emojis but thanks for the feedback on my own style of questioning x”

It was another two goals from Alexander Isak, along with one from Sandro Tonali as they come back from 1-0 down to win.
Southampton manager Ivan Juric said post-match, per Sky Sports:
“I think we gave everything that we had. It’s not easy to play against Newcastle, but it wasn’t enough.
“It was a crucial moment, the penalty. For me it wasn’t a penalty. It was a very good moment for us. We scored the goal, we moved the ball well, and this moment I think changed the game a little bit.
“I just saw after the game and for me it wasn’t a penalty.
“We have to say that (with) the second goal, I saw the technical quality of the Newcastle player [Isak], incredible. Sometimes you have to accept that pass, control, shoot, it was really good quality, high quality.
“In this moment it seems everything is going wrong. Even if sometimes we perform well, it’s not enough.”
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe:
“I thought it was a massive win for us after last week [vs Bournemouth]. That was really tough to take.
“The performance and the result weren’t anywhere near what we have been of late, so I think today’s game, especially conceding so early, that was a huge response from the players.
“It would have been a moment that we needed to respond and dig deep and we did. I thought we played really well in their first half.
“I thought we looked creative today. I thought we had a good feel about us. Maybe not so much in the last half hour, but certainly in the first 60 minutes.
“We scored some good goals, could have scored more. It’s always going to be a difficult game today.
“Southampton’s league position, I think, does tell a lie. I think they’re much more competitive than their league position says and we knew it was going to be a tough game.”
Isak scores a brace to put Newcastle well on their way to a 10th win in 11 games and the first thing spoken about is the possibility of Arsenal signing him.
It’s like every club outside of the “big boys” exist as window dressing, Marco Silva spoke about it the other day too. https://t.co/6uJQ4hZ45H

Twitter users reacted as Mark McAdam hits back after criticism for his Arsenal comment after Isak’s goal vs Southampton…
@JA_Watts: As a Gooner, I watched this live and rolled my eyes. It was unnecessary and irrelevant to the game. We all know Isak is staying at Newcastle, ergo no need to mention our club.
@cashleslie940: Always touting Isak to Arsenal. Tough he ain’t going
@mrdanlaws: Isak ain’t going to sign for Arsenal .. 🤣
@MattyClarence: What on earth does that goal have to do with Arsenal?!
@AdamP1242: Sky Sports Arsenal agenda again, only outlet that is pushing this Isak narrative
@MagnificoMags: Hey, Sky Sports! FUCK OFF, YOU MORONS!!
@XrpNufcFanRich: Honestly you lot can sod off with this like. Pathetic broadcasting. He’s our player with sod all to do with Arsenal.
@ToonMouthTyne: Utter disgrace.
@agbnufc_: Sky Sports do nothing but arselick the Big 6 are you not embarrassed.
@ToonPolls: Does “Live TV is live TV” imply that you regret your choice of words Mark, out of interest? If so, I don’t understand why you’re taking people to task for commenting on it, if you agree it was a poor choice of words. And if not, then I don’t understand what you meant by it.
@markead: Mark, you and Sky are pushing this every day and know fine well Isak is going nowhere. Nobody can afford him and he is happy. Just move on. Would be nice to hear he scored a goal for NUFC and not Arsenal…
@simonhardy07: Why would you mention Arsenal straight away though when hes playing for Newcastle and enjoying his football? Seems very odd 🤷♂️
@iancr65: What’s live TV got to do with you mentioning Arsenal when a Newcastle United player has just scored for Newcastle United 🖤⚪️🖤
@ingram1_d: Hey Mark. There were quite a few Newcastle fans at the game. Do you fancy having a chat with them about it as well?
@adilangley: You still mentioned another club when talking about Newcastle’s striker. He isn’t an arsenal player, Newcastle don’t want to sell him but for some reason, all of you on sky push the narrative of him playing for arsenal pretty much every single week 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️ it’s embarrassing #NUFC
@_C_1_9: Why the fuck is he bringing Arsenal up in that situation? Clown.
@BellsyNUFC: Can’t believe Arsenal loaned him out
@NUFCcook: Very, very weird to mention Arsenal here
@Owen__39: Newcastle score a goal? Arsenal
@AVFC821: Arsenal? Every fan from every team would like to sign Isak, he’s brilliant, why are sky reporting like this. Awful.
@85_NUFC: This is just the cheap, amateur stuff we’ve come to expect from @SkySportsPL now. Touting players to other clubs during a live update. Can’t report on Isak without keeping Arsenal out his mouth. You need to do better. Got YouTubers on panels and all sorts. Shambles.
@stephen26273: They couldn’t afford him and we wouldn’t sell to them for any price so why mention them?
@Alistai09247528: Will you please stop with the disrespect by continuing going on about arsenal, he’s a Newcastle player you don’t go on like that about other clubs players, embarrassing @markmcadamtv
@ricey80: Sky really don’t like Newcastle having a brilliant striker..
@kendallrowanx: Genuinely think it’s disgraceful that he’s scored for his club and the first thing you think is to sell him off to Arsenal. You have to wonder what you’re getting from that? At least hide your bias.
@Toontweeter: Who cares what Arsenal fans want – this is a Newcastle match where our striker scored plus Arsenal can’t afford him and won’t be getting him 😂🖤🤍
