Marine take to hilariously mock Halifax fan’s tweet after FA Cup upset

Marine AFC take to hilariously mock an FC Halifax Town fan’s tweet after producing an FA Cup upset on Saturday afternoon.

When the draw was made for this fixture at the beginning of October, Twitter user ‘Tom Hogan’, claiming to be a Halifax fan, said to Marine: “Don’t bother coming your getting battered by us 🀣”

Marine never forget though, as they brought the tweet up after beating Halifax at the weekend, responding back “We’ll just leave this here” along with a video of Roy Keane saying “Not too sure that was a clever move.”

When asked if he’d regret posting the taunt, Tom Hogan replied: “Yeah but tbh I should’ve known not to post that with our dire home record 😭😭

“Fair play tbh yous played well and deserved the win, I’ll admit defeat πŸ‘”

It was ex-Shaymen midfielder Louis White who netted the only goal of the game to send his former team out at the Fourth Qualifying Round.

Halifax went 1-0 down early in the 8th minute after Andrew Oluwabori was dispossessed in his own half from a throw-in, leading to Louis White taking on Johnson before slotting it past the keeper.

It could have been 2-0 to Marine on 15 minutes when Sol Solomon tried to score from a tight angle, only for Sam Johnson to make a big save.

Halifax nearly got themselves an equaliser on 35 minutes, with Tylor Golden having a great opportunity following Andrew Oluwabori’s through ball to the right back who had plenty of space to go into, instead his strike went well over.

In the 66th minute, Felix Goddard prevent a Halifax scoring from a lovely move, punching the ball away following an attack.

The closing stages saw Halifax’s best chance of the game with Ryan Galvin making his way into the box and pulled the ball back to midfielder Florent Hoti, only to hit it wide of the target.

Marine manager Neil Young said in his post-match: Doesn’t get much better, does it? At the moment, I think performance of the boys out there, the work ethic, particularly second half, they’re bringing players on, top class players on and passing the ball around. Our lads were on the out, on the feet. Thought first half we were very good, we could have had more than the one goal that we’ve got off. We stripped it down to very little. I could keep maybe a couple of good saves and have been better than one or two situations, but to come here, as you say, looking one place outside the playoffs, as I say, a number of injuries, but overall, the work ethic of the players, I’m absolutely delighted.

Interviewer: So you obviously frustrated them a bit. Particularly second half, lads really had to dig in. Was that part of the game plan? Just to frustrate them really coming in?

NY: We always have a game plan, I think you’ve seen all my games, all my teams. We have a game plan for every game and that’s what I like so much about the group that we’ve got in, that they take everything on board, they change it again. Today we changed it in game. We ended up with two fullbacks in the wide positions because we didn’t have any midfield players available to us, but we knew we were going to come under pressure at some stage. It’s what you do when you do come under that pressure. We had a goal to hold on to, but as I say, I thought first half we could have gone at least two nil up, we could have gone to tune.
