Manure spreading nearly postpones non league fixture with the smell ‘a concern for player health’

A non league club warned it’s fans today that their side’s game could have been postponed because of manure spreading.

Littlehampton Town, who are league leaders of Southern Combination Division One, suggested that their fixture with 16th place Sidlesham might not have gone ahead with the smell ‘a concern for player health’.

The club wrote: “We have been notified this morning by Sidlesham that a local farmer has been muck spreading fields around the ground causing a strong smell that is causing a concern with them for player health. We are told the match referee will make a decision on his arrival.”

Whilst in the hour of waiting to find out the decision, the tweet started getting plenty of attention with the likes, retweets and replies gradually creeping up.

Littlehampton updated fans, stating: “One things for certain it’s pretty smelly here at Sidlesham but the game is going ahead. 3pm KO.”

Got to feel for the players, staff and fans who attended this one, which finished a 1-1 draw.

Another club from Littlehampton today could have had a game called off but for a different reason.

Littlehampton United’s game against Copthorne was at risk with ‘The Sportsfield’ suffering a pipe burst, but that is now set to go ahead with the changing rooms the only place unaffected from the problem.

After finding out that manure was the reason a non league match could have been postponed today, fans took to give their amused reaction, and other course, there was a joke or two thrown into it too – see what they had to say on the next page.
