Man Utd v Liverpool marred by fans fighting, man kicked in head, and tragedy chanting

Man Utd v Liverpool was marred at the weekend by fans fighting, a man kicked in head, and tragedy chanting, as seen in videos posted online.

A number of clips have surfaced across social media, fans clashing with the door of a moving bus open. One male seemed to be knocked out and then kicked in the head, the clip seen below with graphic warning.

It took place after the game, with coaches full of Liverpool fans leaving Old Trafford. Soon those on board urged that bus driver to stop and open the doors to help those caught up in the fight.

The Daily Star report that the group of Manchester United fans in the brawl fled the scene.

There are also claims on social media that a Liverpool fan near the Megastore at Old Trafford sang a chant that got him knocked out by a Manchester United fan.

Ahead of the game, despite the Manchester United Supporters Trust requesting fans to pay tribute to Diogo Jota in the 20th minute of the game with applause, sadly videos have surfaced of some fans booing, and another chanting “Jota’s gone, bye-bye” before the game.

The game itself saw Man Utd go 2-0 up in first half, Liverpool came back to level, but Kobbie Mainoo netted a winner in the 77th minute, making it United’s first league double over Liverpool since 2015/16, a win that also sees United qualify for the Champions League for the first time since the 2023/24 season.

Liverpool’s Arne Slott said, per BBC Sport: “We weren’t able to control their strengths. We were aware of them – set-pieces and counter-attack. You have to know where to lose the ball if you play against United. They are really strong when they play into the middle. They have so many fast players, Bruno Fernandes to hurt you in transition and that’s exactly what happened with the second goal. That is what happens. We were 2-0 down, came back in the second-half to 2-2 and then we shut off and immediately conceded the goal.”

On the second half: “We had a lot of ball possession, one of their strengths is also defending. I tried to play a bit more on both sides with the wingers. We went a bit too much for the middle in the first-half where they can counter attack you.”

Too many familiar problems? “Yeah I don’t think anyone expected us to lose that game after a 2-2. Or maybe you do after the whole of our season. As I’ve shown so many times this season, when we are playing well or we think we are able to win it, we switch off. The ball fell to Mainoo and a great finish for them.”

Any complaints about the second goal [for a potential handball from Benjamin Sesko]? “Yeah, if it is a touch it is never a lot of course. If it was a touch, it should have been disallowed. I want to focus on how we conceded that second goal, because that’s where we can do better.”

On things to work on for next season: “The margins are not so big on us being able to win a game like this, I know what we can improve on and we are already working hard on this. The same issues keep coming back which is not a huge surprise as you don’t have long to fix it during the season. Tactically you can change certain things but for me it is clear where we have to improve and we will.”

Man Utd’s Michael Carrick to Sky Sports on whether he’s proud of their performance: “Yes in some ways the work that has been done, the way the players have played, we can take a lot from it. Qualifying for the Champions League felt off in the distance at one point, it’s not something we celebrate really, we just want to finish high up in the league.”

On why the team were so good today: “Good players and good staff definitely help. The connection we have as a group, overcoming change and difficult challenges. We’re just trying to do the right things and players have taken everything on so well, we want to finish the season strong.”

On being a threatening side: “We scored a lot of goals, we have scored in the past five games. Our focus has been out of possession work. We try to put our strength in the game, we started the game well, I’m just as pleased with the way we finished the game, two set backs could have knocked us but the players were quality, and we came out on top.”

Refocusing after conceding: “We go back to belief, which is tested in those moments, players want to work hard for each other. The tactics is one side and mentality is another. It gets you through difficult times.”

On still improving: “In our league it is encouraging to see how we’ve done so well, we want to keep improving and we can’t underestimate what the players have done.”

On what’s next: “It’s not about what I like or not like, it’s not in my control, everything has gone so well. We know the situation and we still want to get better and see what happens next.”

On Benjamin Sesko’s injury: “He’s been carrying a shin problem for some time, he got pushed and caught the bit that’s been causing him some problems.”

Social media users gave their reaction with Man Utd v Liverpool marred by fans fighting, a man kicked in the head, and tragedy chanting…

Michael James Obrien posted in the The Anfield Voice: “As a Man Utd fan im disgusted at the absolute thugs that beat a liverpool fan and his son at Old Trafford, you aint one of us we dont want you nasty horrible bxstards we call on the club to investigate and ban those responsible for life.

“Yes there was a small minority of Liverpool fans chanting about Munich again Small minority yet like Man Utd fans because of them thugs the whole fanbase will take the flak, we are rivals yes but no matter how much we dont like each other violence and assault has no place at either club we can have good banter at the end of the day and go home safe and happy!

“So Man Utd and Liverpool lets find these utter bxstards and make sure they never attend again my thoughts go out to that Dad and his son hope they make a full recovery! GGMU YNWA.”

Gaz Padge: Jota songs, hillsborough songs. Absolutely terrible

Darren Da Sendri Hendry: Anyone that sings about Munich or Hillsborough deserve calling out and banishing from both clubs stadiums and fan base

Thomas Clark Hannah: Well said mate. Unfortunately these idiots are at every club. As if the cost of a ticket is t enough to drive families away from games we have this. Couldn’t agree with you more. The minority always spoil it for the majority. Love the post though, class

Mark Talbot: Respect!! These thugs don’t go for the football, I’ve been a liverpool supporter for 40 years, love the banter between us fans! But for me that’s all it is! A laugh and a joke! We win you lose you win we lose! Its a game at thee end of the day! I remember sitting watching the 99 cl final hoping united would win it, purely because they are an English team and one of the most successful clubs in the football world! Why wouldn’t i back them to win the biggest prize in football!

@mferguson40: Grown adult men by the way. They will all be mates during the World Cup. Morons

@tedio74: Grown up adults behaving like they’re still in the school playground. Absolutely embarrassing for them all, but spitty at another person is such a cowardly vile lowlife act and is always going to trigger angry repercussions 🤬

@mickthecat__: Fighting about football. Absolutely pathetic.

@jdklfc: Had it after Everton and now United. When will it stop?

@barlowlfc89: Grown men 😂

@shaun___2001: Just go home ye sad cunts

@HungarySzoboFPL: The players (from both teams) will hate to see this… it’s too close to home… If Liverpool fans have sung/chanted about the Munich disaster, or anything else for that matter, it’s completely wrong as well. Imagine Jota’s wife hearing this. Heartless 😩 Some fans are disgusting. There’s always some in every fan base. Football is football but this is too far 🤢

@liverpool_data: Amazing the times we live in, not one person around them telling them not to be a twat, no doubt they idolise Bruno and yet they mock his mates passing! Degenerates. @ManUtd @gmpolice shouldn’t be too hard to trace these scumbags

@bazzagarlow2: @ManUtd shouldn’t be difficult to track them to their seats, absolute fucking scum
