A Man Utd player quickly deletes a tweet that he posted about Leeds United after being promoted to the Premier League on Friday.
After a 16 year wait, Leeds are back in the big time, thanks to Huddersfield’s 2-1 win over West Brom, and then were crowned champions less than 24 hours later when Brentford lost to Stoke.
It will be their first time back in the Premier League since 2004, the Whites’ rivalry with Manchester United is to be renewed, with is once described as ‘English football’s most intense, and most inexplicable’.
“Leeds are going up, going up… Leeds are going up” ?

Marcus Rashford had a message for his side’s rivals, though, it ended up leaving Leeds fans surprised and a few Red Devils supporters reeling.
“As a United fan I’m happy to see Leeds United back in the Premier League where they belong. Congrats,” the 22-year-old posted before quickly removing the message.

Fair to say the Wythenshawe born lad can’t wait to face off with Leeds when next season begins but fans were quick to comment on his message before he took it down.
The two sides haven’t played each other much in the last few years, with their last competitive meeting coming in the League Cup in 2011.
The most recent was when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side thrashed Marcelo Bielsa’s side 4-0 in a pre-season friendly in July 2019.
That game saw a steward captured on video slipping up whilst trying to catch a streaker that tried to get on the field of play.
As the game was going on, one ‘fan’ tried to invade the pitch it would see, only to not even reach that far.
Steward came rushing in, seven to be precise, one tripped up and fell whilst others came and managed to get the supporter down on the ground.
He was quickly escorted out of the Optus Stadium in Perth, but it certainly got one of the biggest cheers of the game.
As for the game, which was attended by 55,274, the Red Devils came out victorious with a 4-0 win over the Whites.
Mason Greenwood found the net after just two minutes from close range.
Marcus Rashford found United’s second just before half-time, when manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went on to substitute the whole team for the second part.
Phil Jones’ got what was at the time his first goal since 2014 by heading in to make it 3-0 and Anthony Martial’s penalty sealed the comfortable win.
Lifelong MUFC supporter Gary Neville could not hide his disappointment when he told Sky Sports: “It’s a season of death, this one,” just weeks after Liverpool won their first top-flight title in 30 years.
However back in April, he said: “Leeds United are a massive football club.
“Fans were horrible to be honest when we used to go there. For United it was just as bad as it gets but the rivalry was a big one, a huge one.
“I want to see them back in the Premier League because I do think football is about rivalry, it’s about competition, it’s about that spirit between fans.”
Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich has meanwhile warned that he and his team-mates will not be altering their approach on the pitch in the Premier League next season when they clash with the likes of United and City.
“We saw that against Arsenal in the FA Cup that we won’t change anything. It doesn’t matter who we are playing,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“We try to play our football, we try to dominate possession and be aggressive on the pitch.
“That’s the way we got to the Premier League, we’re not gonna change it at all so I can’t wait for next season.
“It feels great, I’m very proud of my teammates, very proud of myself.
“I’m very happy but we want to be champions so we’re going to Derby to win the game. I can’t really tell you how happy I am right now.
“I’ve been at a couple of clubs across Europe and I never felt pressure like this, especially when Leeds weren’t in the Premier League for 16 years.
“You could feel it. Especially after last season after the Wigan game at home where we disappointed at least like 40,000 people in the stadium.
“We felt really bad and we really wanted to do better this season. The pressure was big especially after lockdown because we were on fire and then we had to wait a couple of months but we did it so I’m very happy.”
On manager Bielsa, who is set to have a street name after him, Klich added: “He has changed me as a player, I can say for myself. I never thought I could play like this, this season and last season.
“He’s a big coach, anyone can tell that. I think going up with Leeds is a big success for him as well.
“I hope he’s very happy right now because he deserves it like we do. These last two seasons we dominate the Championship and I’m very happy.
“I don’t even know so many words in English to describe how happy I am now.”

As if anyone would be arsed about Rashford’s innocuous Leeds post. I wonder how many who took umbrage remember MUFC playing at Elland Road?! Marcus is right. Big club, PL is better for having them in it. Good local rivalry, two more exciting fixtures. Lad is a hero. Behave please

@MarcusRashford is absolutely right to tweet this. It was always a great rivalry and I can’t wait for it to start again! Any fan who takes offence is a prick and too young to understand.

Typical English mentality, should hate your rivals and want every bad thing possible to happen to them, otherwise, are they really your rivals?

The abuse that Rashford got for his tweet about leeds is disgusting.
