Man City vs Marseille Live Match Stream

Our live stream ahead of Wednesday nights Champions League match, Man City vs Marseille is now up, kicking off at 20.00 BST.

You can keep an eye on the commentary as it happens below, but first, we take a preview into the fixture, lineups, predictions and much more…

Manchester City will finish top of Group C, but were held to their first-ever goalless draw in the group stages by Porto in their last outing, who have also qualified for the last 16.

The Citizens did, however, return to their swaggering best at the weekend, beating Fulham 2-0 in a match that could have been a much wider margin. Goals came from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling who scored and won the 20th penalty of his career – he has now won more penalties than any other player in Premier League history.

Andre Villas-Boas’s Marseille finally got off the mark in Europe last week against Olympiacos.

A brace of penalties from Dimitri Payet saw Les Olympiens triumph 2-1 on their own turf against the Greek giants, who had initially taken the lead through Mady Camara, with Marseille’s win ensuring that third place is still up for grabs.

PRESS CONFERENCE:

Pep Guardiola

Who will or won’t start?

Everyone is fit, tomorrow we will decide.

Aguero?

We will decide tomorrow. Maybe on the bench. Tomorrow we make a training session, see how his reaction in his body.

Important is the last two, three days he was part of the group. His reaction and the niggles he had in the past disappeared.

Rotation or younger players?

Everyone has played a lot of minutes, like I said we will play to win the game. I don’t rotate the team, I put all the players in the best condition and decide the best team for this game.

There is not one team for one competition. The last few days except two or three players everyone was involved.

Resting any key players?

If someone make a lot of minutes and has a lot of problems of course we consider. Today everybody was fit.

Fernandinho contract?

I answer this the previous press conference. It’s the same. He’s part of the team, he’s back from injury. He played awesome against Porto.

He’s struggling to play three games a week so we handle the minutes because he’s not like four years ago. He trains so good, he’s our captain, we’ll need it for tomorrow, for Saturday.

U21 game affecting selection?

The under-21s are at Tranmere in the EFL Trophy tonight.

It is what it is. The schedule is the schedule. Sometimes it’s good for us, sometimes it’s good for the U21s. Four or five players will be in the squad tomorrow.

We will play the game to win the game. It’s the best way to prepare. Because we have to respect Marseille and Olympiacos. We’ll play to win, the players know it.

Tomorrow we have a game and four or five players will be in the squad, we’ll decide the starting XI. Four or five from the U23s will be with us tomorrow.

Foden to start again?

Is he more suited to the Champions League?

No, he has the quality in Europe, Premier League, Carabao Cup. He played against Madrid but not Lyon. He doesn’t play all the CL games because they’re different to other ones.

I don’t play all the season with 11 players. I play everybody when they are focussed and best for the team. I don’t like to put 11 players and have 8 or 9 without playing. After, as much good you play the more chances to play.

All the season for him was top, since the first game he played so good and scored. He’s young but has a specific energy and quality.

Of course, he has to improve the final decision in the box and be more patient but it’s part of the age. His energy he’ll handle in the best way. We are delighted to have him and he’s an incredibly important player to have.

Options to rest?

I don’t rest players. I don’t say this player don’t play because I’m thinking of the other games. Against Porto, we played to qualify and we were awesome. The team that will play tomorrow can play against United.

I want to win tomorrow, it’s not about the match or one more day or one less day. After Thursday, Friday we start to think against United.

Aguero return?

He’ll be back when he’s able to train regularly, and get minutes. The quality is there. We know him quite well, he’s working incredibly hard to come back. He needs a bit more time for his injury but we are patient.

We would love to have him back but if his knee responds well he will be back. With the quality, nobody has doubts about him.

More on Foden

He’s so good, now in the moment I see him play upfront for the dynamic, the sense of goal and the pressure. I’m pretty sure with the age and years, when he’s 24, 25, he’ll be able to play more in the defensive positions.

He has to understand more but it’s part of the age. He can play both wingers or the striker. As a manager to have a player who can play in these positions it’s fundamental.

Will Mendy play?

He’s getting better, he wasn’t injured, played regularly and played well. He still didn’t get the best level we know he has. When he can train regularly and doesn’t stop for injury he can do what he has.

Thoughts on Villas-Boas

A lot of respect, he’s been at a lot of clubs. Incredible success at Porto, then experience in England. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the good results in the CL with Marseille, 0 points after 2 games is difficult.

Payet, Thauvin, the physicality up front. The French league is tough, everyone knows it. It will be an interesting game, it’s important for them to qualify for the Europa League but it’s important for us too. For the prestige, for winning games.

SPORTSMOLE PREDICTION:

We say: Manchester City 3-1 Marseille

Marseille have much more to play for in this tie than City do, but the last thing that Guardiola will want to see is his side take the foot off the gas despite having the group already wrapped up.

A solid victory here would be a huge confidence boost before their trip to Old Trafford, so we are backing City to round off their group-stage campaign with a win against a Marseille side who have struggled to perform on the big stage.
