Macclesfield fans hit back at criticism surrounding ticket prices for Brentford game

Macclesfield fans hit back at criticism surrounding ticket prices for the FA Cup Fourth Round game against Brentford.

A Twitter post by Daniel Turner (@puffpuff65) went on to get over 1,300 likes, he simply wrote: “£35, not a good look for Non league.”

@UpTheSilkmen said: “No Macc fan is arsed It’s why we’re moving up in the world and making money, yet other clubs are struggling.

“Jesus Christ. The amount of negativity we have had regarding the £35 tickets is mental! Macclesfield fans know that every extra penny will help our promotion push next season… Why are Manchester United and football clubs who are losing millions every year getting involved?

“Out of 100 Macc fans, 5 will have kicked off. We might not be in the Fourth Round again for decades. How dare the club try and profit from it.

“We don’t even have the most expensive tickets in the National League. Jealous fans who have fickle owners unlike our owner. STID. 🔵⚪️”

There is plenty of reaction as Macclesfield fans hit back at criticism surrounding ticket prices for Brentford game…

@JRPKent: Absolute greed at £35/Ticket. What a way to repay loyal fans who attend their non-league games week after week. The glory hunters may come for the “Glamour matches” and be prepared to pay stupid money, but they won’t be there for the league matches will they. Terrible decision 😩 There’s just no need for it. The TV will be fantastic regardless. There’s a phrase that stands the test of time, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you” and this is a classic example of a club doing exactly that.

@IAG828: Good luck to you. Cmon the silkmen #cpfc

@CPFCHQ: £35 a ticket. We should feel even more ashamed for losing to this lot.

@DaveJoe27: Ripping your own fans off again. The prize money and TV money not enough?

@jonallenpt: Ffs. They could triple the price and still sell it twice over Let businesses business. This is a great chance for them to make money. If they struggled to sell tickets against some crap club you’d expect them to discount tickets wouldn’t you? It goes both ways

@benmfc1874: The outrage here is hilarious. £35 is nothing 😂

@LeeDavi63881320: 99% of non league would cash grab at this point, it isnt their fault the FA have diverted every penny upstream to the “big clubs”. They’ve earned this, the right to bump up prices for a one off match. Dont like it then dont go.

@DaveJoe27: Ripping your own fans off again. The prize money and TV money not enough?

@ColinPep1: Such greed. You’ve got the TV money, the prize money from progressing 5 rounds so far, the TV money and all that came with it from the Palace game… Just unnecessary to exploit your own supporters.

@CBabington1:
Sold out game v Palace
Tv money v Palace
Palace gave them their ticket share
Probable tv money v Brentford
And still feel the need to rip off their own fans 🙈

@_Luke_A_: £35! Full-strength team please Keith!

@flytu: Prices have to agreed by both clubs. The decision will not be Macclesfield’s alone.

@ade_oladipo1: I understand this is a big opportunity and maybe you have to capitalize (a little bit) but a non-league side charging £35 a ticket is taking the p**s Surely the club is making good revenue with the game being televised… £100,000 Why the increase in ticket prices for fans.

@ChrisRicha49037: Clubs like Macclesfield need to take advantage of cup matches like this to keep the club going. It’s good management and the right thing to do.

@Spurspapers: They can make an extra £100k against it being say £20. And it will sell out easily. Can’t really blame them.

@AlfredGREENWOO9:
I know they were a club in financial despair only a couple of years back, but £35 is quite steep. Especially when:
1. The only way to watch it outside of going is paying £30 for TNT.
2. They’re already getting £121,500 for making to the 4th round + an extra £80,000 in TV money = £201,500. (which for a non-league club, is a lot)
I think considering tickets for league games are normally £19 (which is still quite expensive), they could have maybe just increased it to £25 so then it would have been cheaper than getting TNT and it would be at least somewhat affordable. #Silkmen

This time last year, there was huge backlash on social media as Tamworth revealed ticket prices for the FA Cup Third Round match against Tottenham. Ticket prices were as high as £42, for adults in the main stand, to watch the cup tie

The pricing didn’t go down well with fans, with many saying while they understand Tamworth have to take advantage of this financial gain being at home against Tottenham in the FA Cup, the price hike is too extreme.
