Luton’s back-to-back relegations mocked by taunting fans around the grounds in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Hatters’ 5-3 defeat to West Brom on the final day of the 2024-25 season sealed their fate, making them only the fourth club in the Premier League era – after Swindon, Wolves, and Sunderland – to suffer consecutive relegations following a top-flight campaign.
This dramatic fall, just two years after their celebrated playoff victory to reach the Premier League, led to plenty of taunting from rival fans.
At The Hawthorns, Luton supporters vented anger, questioning the players’ commitment, while home fans sang “cheerio”.

Championship: Title winners, playoffs and relegations confirmed on final day of 2024/25 season
Boss Matt Bloomfield told BBC Three Counties Radio: “Sorry to our supporters for travelling up and down the country, supporting us this season. We understand their disappointment and anger right now.
“It is totally understandable, the frustration, the disappointment and the anger, because we needed a big performance today and we didn’t deliver one. We have to understand there’s going be a reaction off the back of it.”
On his side’s collapse: “I don’t know [where that display came from].
“We’ve been incredibly resilient in the last two months to really shore up at the back and unfortunately today it just wasn’t there.
“We’ve done so well to drag ourselves back into this position and to fall at the final hurdle was particularly painful for everybody involved.
“This club has to bounce back and we will.
“As a football club, we have to stick together because that’s what this club is about and we’ll find a way.”

Full Time – Luton Relegated to League 1.
Way below our recent performances today. Really disappointing to see but left ourselves far too much to do. pic.twitter.com/3nY3Ygwqfa

Bloomfield said, per Sky Sports:
“Agonising for us to get to 49 points and it not be enough to stay up. We’re disappointed with the performance today, obviously. It’s a painful moment.
“We left ourselves exposed at times but we had to try to chase the game. It’s disappointing, and agonising to come so close. Those goals were damaging for us.
“To work so hard to get ourselves so close and fall at the final hurdle is particularly painful.”
Hull City boss Ruben Selles speaking to BBC Radio Humberside:
“I’m very proud of the courage and the way the players managed the game on the pitch.
“Everyone in the club managed difficult moments and it has been a tough season for everyone and we deserved to stay in the division.
“We had a team that was rock bottom and to achieve the target this season with all the injuries and everything else is just massive.
“Now it’s over and we crossed the line, we can rest a little bit and I told the players that we will remember this day for years to come.”
Stoke boss Mark Robins said: “It was a rubbish game but we both ended up getting what we needed, so that is the most important thing.
“The game was so lacking in quality it’s frightening, but understandable in the circumstances.
“The players managed themselves really well during the week and managed themselves through the game well today.
“Since I came in [to Stoke] in January, it has been a really tough period – I think one of the toughest of my career. It has been really difficult because I’m the third permanent manager and fourth voice they have had.
“It’s been a lot of upheaval. This team should never have been anywhere near the bottom, it’s a mid-table team at worst.
“And had everyone been fit and we’d been in earlier, things wouldn’t have got down to this day but thankfully we have managed to come out the other side okay.”
Derby County head coach John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby: “The job’s done and that’s the most important thing.
“What a fantastic effort from everyone connected to with the football club. The players have been outstanding every day in training.
“They have dedicated themselves to getting to this moment and I couldn’t be any more proud of them.
“The fans, home and away have been outstanding as well. During some really difficult moments no-one stopped believing and if you believe in what you are doing you always have a chance.
“And here we are with us still in the Championship.”
