Long Eaton mocks Rishi Sunak after pledging to support Stockton in awkward video

Long Eaton United manager Ian Deakin mocks Rishi Sunak after the PM was seen pledging to support Stockton Town in an awkward video.

Rishi Sunak sent a good luck message to Long Eaton’s playoff final opposition, just hours before Stockton Town lost on penalties in a bid for promotion from the Northern Premier League East Division to the 7th tier.

Sunak sent a video to wish the Anchors all the best before their match against Long Eaton, at Bishopton Road at the weekend.

Sunak’s warning backfired however as Alex Marshall put Long Eaton in the lead before Stockton turned things around after the break with goals by Dale Mulligan and Matty Tymon.

Luke Cox scored late to bring the play-off to extra time. After 120 minutes of play, neither team was able to separate themselves, and the game ended 2-2. The match went to penalties for the winner, 4-3.

Speaking before the game, the Prime Minister said: “Your local MP Matt Vickers has been telling me about all the action down at Bishopton Road. The exciting semi-final play-off and how Mikey Roberts brought the nail-biting penalty shootout to an end.

“I understand you’ve got some of the best and loudest fans around, and Stockton is right behind you, and the town couldn’t be prouder. I just wanted to wish you the very best of luck in today’s final.” While holding a Stockton shirt, the PM added: “Good luck The Anchors.”

He told the club’s YouTube channel: “We are going to get ourselves a beer and keep going until I can’t see anymore, so that’s what we’re going to do initially. Enjoy the ride back with the fans and supporters, everyone involved.

“But as soon as this game had finished, I am already thinking about what is going to happen next year and that’s where my mind works. I don’t know if I have OCD or anything but that is the way I work, I am always trying to think about the next steps moving forward.

“I don’t think there are many teams that could do what we have done this year in the face of adversity, in this league, tough travelling, these lads keep fighting and you get your just rewards when you put the work in.

“Last thing I want to say is a message for Rishi Sunak, put that one in your pipe and smoke it. Yes!”

Long Eaton keeper Ross Durrant said on social media: “Bore off Rishi. Stick to ya day job. Up the blues.”

Assistant Manager Adam Campbell added: “#DeakinsBarmyArmy. Bore off Rishi you melt.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Long Eaton mocks Rishi Sunak after pledging to support Stockton in an awkward video…

@27_hutch: Get that up ya rishi lad!

@Benjmeister85: What the hell is this 🤣

@CraigRussell80: Why does he do his prerecorded messages as Woody from Toy Story?

@QuickSally: It’s like he’s talking to the under 12 team ? 🙄

@SutherEric: Even David Brent and Alan Partridge would be be cringing at this. Beyond embarrassing.

@AndyRush5: What an absolute muppet! #CringeFest

@Gomez17099: That can’t be real

@cricketcelt: If that MP who claims to support Notts gets Sunak to do this for our playoff campaign then I’m afraid we’ll have to disband the club.

@Lowfeller: This only really works if Rishi goes on to make a video to the Long Eaton Utd fans, saying “Come on then you wankers, let’s fucking have it…”

@MthfcMason: What an awkward man

@TheSchliddle: Nah he has to be a muppet like kermit or something, a real person does not talk like that

@_toosb: Fucking hell, how fucking cringeworthy. Stockton lost by the way. Good.

@cattler: This is utterly pathetic and cringey.

@coffeejazzfilm: Maybe we should send him a @LongEatonUnited shirt 🤣

@Zero_4: “Hi football lovers, I love football too! Did you see that kick in the goals from that player in that game the other night? Absolutely tickey-boo! Gooooo football!”

@julesm2211: I’d love to hear Rishi discussing the off-side rule and pros and cons of VAR

@fLuidinio: That’s the result of him trying really hard (probably with some coaching) to be like a regular person. Imagine if he wasn’t trying…

@ScottFarrell_: @LongEatonUnited The whole country are behind you now.

@MimiJ9: Even Stockton Town haven’t retweeted this toe curling video. #SoftieSunak

@RobiMurf: Fucking hell, this is absolutely cringeworthy. If you don’t have any clue about football then quite simply shut the fuck up.
