Lip reader reveals what Kyle Walker claims Neal Maupay said to him in heated bust-up

A lip reader reveals what Kyle Walker claims Neal Maupay said to him in the heated bust-up between the two as Man City beat Brentford.

The altercation escalated towards the end of Monday night’s Premier League clash, prompting Walker to approach fourth official Stuart Attwell to address the incident.

However, when questioned about the incident after the match, Pep Guardiola chose not to comment and simply replied, “Next question.”

This lack of response has left fans to speculate over what happened, as neither Walker nor Maupay have provided any statements.

Nevertheless, Jeremy Freeman, an expert witness and forensic lip reader, has shared his analysis of what Walker alleges Maupay said to him, though this has not been confirmed by any party involved in the incident.

He said Walker approached the 4th official and shouted: ‘I’m gonna knock him [Maupay] out’, to which Atwell replied: ‘Shush’.

‘However, Walker refused to back down and went on to say: ‘Wait there’ – pointing to the tunnel – before walking back over to Gillet.

The England international continued his rant, saying: ‘Ref he spoke about my kids, he spoke about my kids, not once, but twice.’

Maupay interjected by saying: ‘I didn’t, it’s OK’.

Gillet tried to defuse the situation by saying: ‘Let’s deal with it at the end’ before turning to Maupay and adding: ‘Now, now, just calm down, listen to me… think about it, think about it.’

Maupay responded to Attwell by saying: ‘That’s a lie, that’s not fair, I promise you now.’

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: “We had a lot of chances. The keeper was sensational. They are so dangerous from set plays, they are an incredible team in that concept. They press really high. The spaces in the pockets in these types of games are really important.”

On Foden: “He always had an eye for a goal. He’s got 250 games already and he’s had an impact with goals this season. He’s incredible. His numbers are really good.”

No clean sheet: “We know that Toney is the link and they make runs in behind. Yes, we will try to improve.”

On Haaland: “It’s not easy for any striker to have touches in the box. The spaces are really difficult.”

On winning run: “I’m just trying to recover the people and prepare for Everton. I never think about the run, just about winning the next game.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Sky Sports, says: “Really tough game. From experience, what they do, they do it amazingly, every corner, every free-kick.

“We played a really good game, their goalkeeper was excellent in the first half and after the second half we were much better.”

On Phil Foden: “He has played a lot of games, he is a guy that plays different positions and has the ability in spaces and the centre of goal because he likes to arrive in the box.

“They [Brentford] are so deep, spaces are difficult so to have a player moving in these spaces is so important. He loves moving in the 18-yard box and he is playing his best season since we are together.”

Hat-trick goalscorer Phil Foden, talking to Sky Sports, says: “We know the quality they have. [Ivan] Toney is one of the best in winning aerial duels, we knew the threat he would have. They are a fantastic team and we had to react and we did that well and I’m delighted with the outcome of the game.

“We stayed calm and we’re a team that trusts our ability. There were ups and downs but we had to remain patient. They closed the spaces but we remained patient, controlled the game and created chances, which was nice to see.

“I’m really glad with my performances and am playing a lot of minutes inside, where I want to be, and I’m delighted with the way I’m playing. I’m playing the best form I’ve had in a City shirt consistently for a long time and long may that continue and I will keep working hard on the training ground.

“I’m a person that adapts and plays a lot of positions when needed. I know I will do that with Manchester City and have to be ready. I’m enjoying playing in the middle and that’s where I see myself. Hopefully I can get more game time playing there.

“The [first] goal came at a great time, going into the break equalising gives you a good feeling going into the second half. It’s so difficult here, they have given big teams problems but I thought we deserved it.

“All I set myself it try to better last year’s stats and just try to improve every year, more goals and more assists. I need to keep going and showing this level of performance more often. I don’t score a lot of headers so I’m delighted with that one.”

Brentford boss Thomas Frank, speaking to BBC Sport: “We gave it a very good go. I thought it was a very good performance. I thought we were brave and defended very well against the best team in the world. We limited them to shots outside the box in the first half. The goal before half time was a tough one to take.

“Second half, we continued and we knew De Bruyne was the key player to close down but he found that magic pass. Some of the things were good but when you face the best team in the world, you need to be perfect.”

On Flekken: “Unbelievable. That’s the level we know he has. His distribution was very good too.”

On Maupay: “He’s been good for us. That’s five goals in five. We have some clever players. It was clever from Ivan Toney and Neal Maupay.”

On tough run coming up: “We know that we can get a win against any team in the division, we’ve shown it before. We’ve had good games against City and Tottenham. The performances have been good, we’ve got key players back and I see it as a matter of time before the points come.”

Brentford manager Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports, says: “Overall a good performance. Throughout the game, first half we defended well and limited them to shots outside the box, apart from the goal which was a bad pass from us.

“They defended so well but it was a mistake for the 1-1 goal. De Bruyne made one unbelievable and precise pass and that made it 2-1. These goals were the difference. We had big chances [for 2-2] and we needed to take them to beat the best team in the world.

“We did a lot of things right, but in the key moments didn’t have the quality or they [City] showed their tremendous quality.”
