Leeds fans have the last laugh as cheeky chants from Derby fans turns to boos at full time as the hosts won 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Joe Rodon and Max Wober were on target at Elland Road as the hosts bounced back from defeat at Blackburn last week, the win sending them top of the Championship.
It’s not so good for the Rams however, marking a third straight defeat and left them with just one win in their last 10 league games.
Have a watch of the match highlights, and the game from a fan’s perspective from both the home and away end including many chants too…
Warne said to RamsTV on coming up against one of the toughest oppositions in the division: We didn’t have enough personality on the ball in the first half, but they made it difficult for us; they press well with ex-Premier League players coming after you all the time. I thought we defended quite well but it was just disappointing to concede from a corner that late in the half.
It’s about trying to reduce them to little chances and to try and get things on the break, but we weren’t good enough offensively today. In fairness to the fans who came, and I thank them for it as they kindly clapped the players off, but we didn’t give them enough going forward to really get behind. That isn’t because it wasn’t from a lack of effort, it’s just the fact that they cancelled out everything we had. Any time we took someone on, they’d take the ball off us and it made it difficult.
On being defensively strong, with Leeds’ quality making the difference: Jacob had shots to save but that’s what he’s there for, and I thought we had good passages in the play without having any final bit to it, if that’s the nicest way I can put it. I thought our substitutes came on and did well and we had to think about Tuesday night at Burnley with a few of them, so we changed the pack.
It’s a difficult place to come to, they have very good players and the lads gave me everything they had so for that I thanked them, but it was a tough day.
On seeing the efforts the team put in against a strong Leeds team: I’m really proud of our efforts, but I don’t want it to become a trend that I always say the performances are good, but results aren’t because I don’t think today our performance was good enough overall. Our effort levels were good and our organisation was good, but we just let ourselves down at times and when you’re chasing the ball and you get it back sometimes your legs are gone and it’s hard to find a simple pass. There were moments where we looked really comfortable on the ball but then the final ball or the final decision wasn’t there as Leeds make it really tough for teams. It’s a hard game if they’re on song and some of their players were very good today.

He told BBC Radio Derby: “I understand why people would want you to go for it but the honest truth is that this is a very good team that made it very difficult for us when we had the ball.
“Every single one of their players was quicker than ours and apart from being tidy on the ball, I didn’t see how we were going to create a chance.
“I know that sounds negative but that’s the truth. We are playing a Premier League team with a League One team with a bit of sugar on top.
“The lads competed really well which I’m proud of. You just don’t want to be open and that brave that you get ripped apart.
“I could have gone guns out, but if I stood here after a five or six nil defeat the damage in the dressing room could have been colossal.”
He continued: “We came into it knowing it would be a tough one, I don’t think there’s any shame that we haven’t come away with a win.
“Defensively we were pretty good, limited them to very few chances in the first half – you’ve got to quieten the crowd down – but when we got the ball, we didn’t really do anything with it.
“This is a very good team that made it difficult for us when we had the ball. Every single one of the players is quicker than ours. I don’t know, apart from being tidier on the ball, how we were going to create a chance – I know that sounds negative, but that’s the truth.”
Leeds boss Daniel Farke told BBC Radio Leeds:
“For the first 10, 15 minutes, we were a bit hectic in our decision making but after that we were all over them, didn’t allow them to have one chance.
“We created many chances and could and should have scored a few more, but overall it was a pretty dominant performance and to deliver this after an unlucky loss (at Blackburn) makes me pretty happy.
“We were struggling with a few injuries during the game, but you couldn’t see at all that this affected us – this is our way at the moment, we find solutions.”
Leeds defender Joe Rodon told Sky Sports:
“To get a win and a clean sheet is all we can ask for. I think my first chance was a bit easier but we worked on it all week. It’s big to score from a set-piece.
“Everyone knows it’s a very long season and every team provides a different challenge. All we can keep doing is put three points on the board and we keep moving.”

This is what Twitter had to say as Leeds fans have last laugh as cheeky chants from Derby fans turns to boos at full time…
@WrightStuff86: One win in ten, home form that we are so reliant on is stuttering, abject away performances with little intention to attack. Clowes needs to accept that we need a change of management now to give us any chance of avoiding what would be a disaster in relegation. #DCFC #COYR
@gill_frost: He’s finally turned us into Rotherham
@PatrickHartle: 79 minutes for our only attempt on goal and the player gets subbed instantly. 11 men in our own box for 90 minutes with not even an effort to go forward. Didn’t expect to win but expected some form of effort.
@Dominic__96: Wow, this really is a terrible interview. I get being honest and realistic but that doesn’t mean downtooling before we’ve even started. Thought @Ed__Dawes comments were spot on. Really glad I’ve taken half a day from work and the £60+ Burnley is going to cost on Tuesday👍🏻 #dcfc
@Gems171: Watch Warne come out and say the lads performed well. 🙄
@ConnorDcfc: I can accept the loss but what I won’t accept are the comments saying it’s a L1 club when he first came he was saying it’s a championship club ! And setting us up before a ball is kicked aswell no wonder the lads don’t give 120% why would you needs to go !! #dcfc #dcfcfans
@woodwardio79:
“We didn’t do anything with the ball”
Maybe try dropping players woefully out of form in NML and Jackson.
Play our only ball playing Mid in Kenzo and don’t drop Harness after his best game of the season v Sheff.W
@RamInSweden: Its not prem v league 1 though. We were too good for league 1 and they weren’t good enough for the prem, which is why we are both in the championship Paul 🤨 We had absolutely nothing to lose today and should have gone for it and tried to force mistakes, but we were sitting ducks
@MJRose_: As much as I appreciate Warne’s “realism” if you want to call it that – where is the optimism & ambition? Sure, none of us expected a result, but at least try and have a go at some point in the game. We had 1 shot on target, from 25 yards 🫠 Honestly, the mentality is alarming
@LUFC_WorldWide: Congrats on being the worst team to come to Elland Road this season outside of the night Wayne Rooneys Plymouth. Safe journey
@juliek1712: Worked hard but lucky to get away with a 2-0 loss. Never expected to win that match but it makes losing the winnable games even worse. Defend for that long and you will always concede. We’ve become accepting of poor football and results and even defend it. Disappointing! ☹️🐏
@nffcjessx: Shocking interview by Warne – so many reds flags. You have to toe the line between being honest/realistic, to just complete negativity. He comes across not arsed with absolutely no ambition. No wonder the Derby fans are sharpening pitch forks: “league one with sugar on top” 🤣
@bango_don: What a horrible interview. No point fans going v Burley 🙈😡
@ktownniko: I appreciate his honesty, and his success in getting us out of league 1. But it’s clear he’s taken us as far as he can. The small club, underdog tag doesn’t suit us. Look at what Luton and Cov achieved with small budgets. Come on Clowes, make the call #dcfc
@seantheram: Jesus H Christ. Wake up. We are a massive club that was dead and buried. If we stay in the division after what the EFL conspired to do. We should be grateful. Be humble and wait. #oncearam 🐏🐏🐏
@KevinOxford: But isn’t the set up the same week in week out ?. They couldn’t keep the ball 1st half because he had made it clear who was best and shot any confidence. Changes again needed before 60 mins but obviously one eye on Tuesday which is just as difficult a game.
@jonolomax: This interview is alarming. League one club with a sprinkle of sugar on top. Honestly if he thinks it he shouldn’t say it. Would I want to play for a manager like that absolutely not!! Safe to say we now understand how and why we are set up as we are with no game plan #dcfcfans
