Leeds fan jumps out of the stands and pushes Eddie Howe on touchline before being escorted out

A Leeds fan jumps out of the stands and pushes Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on the touchline before the culprit is seen being escorted out.

Two Callum Wilson penalties turned the game around in Newcastle’s favour but Rasmus Kristensen’s deflected strike made it 2-2; Patrick Bamford missed a penalty with Leeds 1-0 up; Junior Firpo, who gave away a penalty, was also sent off late on.

Leeds stay in the Premier League relegation zone with just two games remaining to save their season – away at West Ham before hosting Tottenham on the final day.

Newcastle, who take on Brighton on Thursday, still have their top-four hopes in their own hands and remain third.

Leeds produce an out of nowhere late leveller in a game full of twists and turns against Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

The deadlock broke on the 7th minute, the first real chance of the match, as Harrison linked up brilliantly down the left with Bamford and the Leeds forward lifted a great ball in for Rodrigo.

The Spaniard’s header was firm but Pope just put it back into danger. Ayling is on the rebound to tap in the rebound.

Shortly after, Greenwood fed the under-lapping Firpo and he charged into the Newcastle box. The left-back was clumsily brought down by Joelinton and it an easy decision for Simon Hooper. Pope guessed right however, a poor penalty by Bamford.

Almost immediately, Wober has to come across and clumsily took Isak down. Awful challenge from the Leeds defender

On the 66th minute, Willock crossed for Isak in the box and Firpo’s arms were up. The ball brushed his fingers. Referee Simon Hooper went over to the screen. It was an easy decision. Penalty. But no second yellow for Firpo.

With 10 minutes remaining, Leeds looked dead and buried, but the hosts play a short corner and Gnonto drifted a corner to the back post where Koch has two bites of the cherry. Kristensen smashed one before taking a wicked deflection off a Newcastle body and past a helpless Pope to make it 2-2.

Firpo was at it again. Guimares clip goalwards found Gordon and Firpo is brought down. Simon Hooper gave a free-kick on the edge of the box and Simon Hooper eventually sent off the Leeds full-back.

In the third minute of stoppage time, off the pitch, there’s an incident on the touchline as a Leeds fan manages to jump out of the stands and pushes Eddie Howe. He’s quickly escorted away by security.

Michael Brown (Former Manchester City midfielder for BBC Radio 5 Live): “At Elland Road it’s so close and you can easily jump over at the back of the technical area.

“Fortunately, the stewards were quick to react and deal with the situation.

“We’ve had everything in this game. It’s a joy to be here watching this.

“The end of the season produces some wonderful game. It has been very nervy and tense but it was hugely important for Leeds that they didn’t lose this so Sam Allardyce has something to build from in the final weeks.”

Leeds defender Luke Ayling to BT Sport: “A point today is massive for us, especially with how we did it. We had a chance to go 2-0 up and then that happened. In weeks before we’d probably lose that four or 5-1.

“The fans have been with us all season. It’s been hard for them sometimes. They stuck with us today.

“Hopefully we can kick on from here.”

Eddie Howe confirms a Leeds fan confronted him and shouted an expletive in his face: “I can’t repeat what he said but it makes you think ‘what if’. Nobody should have to feel their personal safety is violated when trying to entertain the country.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe to BT Sport: “I’m struggling to make sense of it all.

“It was their first attack, we started well. The first attack they get they score. We hadn’t created clear-cut chances. I thought we played well at times today without hitting our best form and we were rushed around the box. The character to come back is a huge positive.

“The way Wilson took his two penalties was outstanding. The second one is the most difficult, there are a lot of mind games and lot of time to take the penalty.”

Leeds manager Sam Allardyce speaking to BT Sport: “Very, very satisfied with what they’ve done and how they applied themselves. There are lots of areas where we say room for improvement, but we didn’t get dispirited even though we made life extremely difficult for ourselves. We missed a penalty then conceded two but scored to save 2-2.

“Our defending was magnificent today. When you consider where Newcastle are and we played Manchester City last week, we are moving in the right direction now. We pleased the crowd, they helped us in the game and kept going with us. It’s a shame we weren’t more professional at the right time as that would have been a win for us otherwise.

“We have to stick with it and do as much as we can to save our position in the Premier League. That is everyone concerned with Leeds. That is everyone who works at the training ground and everyone in the stadium, it’s imperative we stay in this league.

“I’m disappointed it’s only a draw. It could have easily been a win for us. It’s our fault we didn’t win. I have been talking about staying on your feet all week. I don’t like it when they ignore me, so they will get told off. If we stayed on our feet, we would have won.”

This is what fans said as a Leeds fan jumps out of the stands and pushes Eddie Howe on touchline before being escorted out…

@SibsMUFC: Very concerning that a Leeds fan is able to get into the dugout and assault Eddie Howe. Looked like it was just some drunk bloke having a go but it could’ve been so much worse. Huge security failure.

@wiseman3terry: I think Leeds will be in trouble after that incident with the fan, what the bloody hell were the stewards doing, the guy could have had a knife for godsake, I hope the police charge him.

@Memecastle_Utd: Leeds fan confronting Eddie Howe man 😂😂😂😭😭😭😭 Scruffs. #NUFC #LUFC #LEENEW

@ToniCityBoy: How the hell does the stewards & security allow a Leeds fan to run along the touch line & stroll into the Newcastle technical area and get into Howe’s face?! Fucking shocking, get the prick banned for life

@portercarl1: Far too easy to get onto the pitch and to the technical area to even approach Eddie Howe face-to-face. Where were the security where was Stewards 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

@Leetheyakker: Disgusting in this day and age , but people would love to hear what he said show his true age off and show himself up , how he even got that close is still beyond me thou

@DebbieBarnett3: Stewards doing a fantastic job there!! 🙈

@ChrisGreen14: Mate how the fuck has a fan been able to put hands on Eddie like that 🤦🏼‍♂️. Leeds security an embarrassment

@ConnorJobson18; Should of knacked him Eddie, we’d of had a domino card running on the bus for the fine

@rob_williams88: Leeds fans really are a dense bunch aren’t they.

@YouMeAnd1939: Can someone explain how the steweds have let a fan run up the touchline without stopping him? He could of had a knife or gun and went straight for the manager. Leeds need a point deduction for failing to control the fans #LEENEW

@DrDry1CG: Dirty, cheating Leeds scum. Diving, kicking our players all day, fan approaching our bench. Always been a disgusting club, they can fuck off to the championship with Everton #NUFC #LEENEW

@Alex_James95: Leeds points deduction, how can you allow a fan into the away teams technical area? #LEENEW

@jamiecweir: Well done pissed-up Leeds fan, you’ve just secured yourself a lifetime ban from every stadium 👏🏽

@GingerPirlo_: That is what I’m talking about with Leeds scum fans. Look at that man.

@FS101_: Leeds fan running on the pitch to shove Eddie Howe? Fucking idiot, honestly what is wrong with people?

@robbie__morgan: Typical Leeds United

@stee2427: Absolutely ridiculous that a fan can get that close and luckily not do anything that could of been catastrophic.

@Charlie_B_LUFC: Bloody terrible. The club will get hammered again. These people need a spell in jail. Not a short one either.

@GeordieCorpse: Should be investigated and Leeds fined.

@SeelsyA: Eddie looked visibly shaky in his post match interview. That was unacceptable and should never happen. He should be banned and their security looked into.

@koomzynufc: Joke that not one member of security noticed the guy coming up to the area
