League Two fixture abandoned after just 30 minutes

There was one League Two fixture which got abandoned after just 30 minutes on Tuesday night, it was confirmed by the referee.

Scunthorpe United hosted Bradford City before getting called off after half an hour on Tuesday night following heavy snow which started just after kick off.

All iFollow match passes purchased will apply for the rearranged fixture with details over the arranged date to be confirmed.

Getting underway in snowy conditions at the Sands Venue Stadium, the Iron held a good line in the opening exchanges and caught the Bantams offside twice.

On the 7th minute, Junior Brown sent a ball through to Devarn Green down the left as he beat his man. The cross was cleared, however Loft managed to get it back and saw his shot blocked before Green’s effort was also blocked.

With 20 minutes gone, Eisa looked to get the better of two more Bradford players down the right hand-side, but this time the tackle was well-timed and Scunthorpe had a throw.

On the 22nd minute, the referee stopped the game as the ground staff came on to clear the pitch of snow and three minutes later and was back underway. By this point fans were watching on, thinking what was the point with snow still falling onto the pitch anyway.

With 29 minutes gone, Alfie Beestin got onto a loose ball and smacked the ball from range with Ryan Loft heading the loose ball wide of the target before the referee halted play again to speak with both managers.

The players were then taken off the field of play just as the snow appeared to have eased off. The match was suspended for 15 minutes with the ground staff working to clear the surface.

Cox said: “Everybody at the club has been here since 9am. We were still on the pitch clearing off the snow at 4pm.

“But it is the right decision – and I just think he could have made it 10 minutes earlier.

“It’s a difficult year but this is what football is like now.”

Fans gave their reaction as the League Two fixture gets abandoned after just 30 minutes, see what they had to say below…

@bcafcwin: Just play it tomorrow.

@ArthurGuitar: Correct decision. Surprised it took so long.

@samdawson030: As if iv just payed £10 to watch a man struggle with a line marker #bcafc

@staples1996: Absolute tinpot club, it’s 2020 and league 2 clubs don’t have roofs, underground heating and ability to control the weather? TINPOT

@joel_mcmahon17: @SUFCOfficial are tinpot

@harryparker____: for not having a roof on the ground?

@MrsHelenWalker1: Well done to the groundsmen for putting in all the effort to get the game on. Clearly weather had other ideas

@DaCo1974: No surprise fair play for effort

@CraigParker8437: Unlucky lads , but well done to the staff who managed to get the game on in the first place lots of hard work can’t fault them for trying. UTI

@silentwarrior94: For anyone thats actually interested scunny put the suggestion to Bradford about bringing kick off forward but bradford turned it down so make of that what you will

@jeager72: Got to feel sorry for all the people who cleared the pitch only for less than 30 mins in its covered again

@ccfcfan: Not surprising with the state of that pitch…

@ibskyblue: Just get the orange ball out!

@Tom_Hancock_: Is the snow drifting west? It’s only 46 miles from Scunthorpe to Sheffield…

@jonathanandgill: Sounds like the right choice, that fixture list is going to be even more congested.

@NeilGrainger73: Thank goodness for that! Painful to watch simply down to the conditions.
