League Two club Grimsby Town say they won’t play football for a year until fans are allowed back inside their Blundell Park stadium.
Manager Ian Holloway has revealed his players have taken a pay cut so that the club can prevent getting into financial difficulty.
The Premier League and Championship are set to resume in June, with clubs reporting back to training.
In May, clubs voted to end the season with immediate effect with the final table determined on a PPG basis. No decision was made as to promotion and relegation. The playoffs would be played as normal.
It means Grimsby Town’s season is likely to end with the club 13th in League Two.
League One clubs are still split whether to do the same or play out the 2019/20 season to a conclusion.
However Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart suggests 15 clubs will vote on ending the season now.
Holloway has been manager of the Mariners since December 2019, being in charge of 15 games before the season was halted, picking up seven wins, three draws and five defeats.
He told talkSPORT that the remaining ten players contracted to the club have agreed not to play for 12 months to help keep the club afloat.
The Grimsby boss said on the talkSPORT Breakfast: “I’m in lockdown at home in Bath, so I feel almost like I never went up there.
“I was loving it and now we’ve got to wait and see what’s going to happen to the club.
“We’ve asked our players to take a wage cut and we’re planning on not playing football for at least a year, because we NEED a crowd.
“We can’t survive in League Two without the gate money, so the lads have agreed to it without the PFA helping them, so at least we’ve made one stride.
“I’ve only got ten players left!
“We believe we can carry on without football for a year and still be ready to pick up the pieces.”
Fans praised the League Two club for stating that they ‘won’t play for a year’ until fans are allowed back, see what they commented by clicking on the next page.

James Smith saying Holloway making a fool out of himself ? Get a grip zzzzz .The bloke is got to be one of the best people in the game and it is an honour to have him in the EFL.what he has done at Grimsby over the last few months is brilliant on and of the pitch. If you asked any fans of league 1/2 and championship who they would love be as their coach Holloway would be first choice.attention seeking ? He’s just got a personality what we all love at Grimsby and says how it is ,very honest man.

You will need other clubs to support this in league 2. Others are in similar financial positions as the Mariners, and many in league 1 are no different.
