We take a look at the latest on Man City’s stadium expansion as footage emerges of changes around the ground ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The expansion of the North Stand will increase the capacity to more than 60,000, with the stand itself featuring a broad range of seating options, including a large rail-seating area.
It’s reported that the North Stand will include 3,000 rail seats (around 10,000 across the stadium), but can be increased before opening if there’s demand.
There would be only 800 hospitality seats in the North Stand too.
• Increase stadium capacity to 60k+
• 3000 rail seats
• Alcohol free areas & religious rooms
• Premium seated areas
• 500 seat food hall
• 300-person premium bar
• Stadium ‘roof walk’ experience
The project includes adding a new tier to the North Stand, as seen throughout this article, following the South Stand’s upgrade, alongside a fanpark, hotel, museum, and club shop to make the area a year-round destination.
Work, ongoing since 2023, focuses on removing the roof this summer without affecting the upcoming season.
Drone footage below shows quick progress being made and the expansion won’t impact home games against Spurs, United, or Champions League matches.

“We’ve got a fairly tough few weeks ahead,” Sisk project director Ian Kasher told Construction News in May. “The old roof needs to be out in four weeks before the new one can be fully fitted, and then the cladding and floodlights will need to be added.
“The groundsmen need four weeks to relay the pitch, so we only have six weeks to remove the existing roof and then the groundsmen take over; there is a one-week buffer in case we have bad weather. Alternate bays of the roof will be stripped in situ leaving six sections of braced bays, each weighing 45 tonnes to be rotated down to pitch level and lifted out”
City are expected to complete the new stand midway through the 2025/26 season, requiring test events before fully opening.
No ticket details for the additional seats have been released, but the club aims for a 61,000 capacity by season’s end.

Fans are hoping the new stand’s configuration will enhance the matchday experience and the noise, with it a significant opportunity to shape the stadium’s atmosphere for years to come.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak said on Manchester City’s North Stand redevelopment, towards the end of May…
“It’s coming up very fast. It’s going to be a great addition to the campus. Once we start the new season, everybody will start physically seeing it a lot clearer.
“The hotel is also coming up nicely. It’s moving very, very fast, but we’re happy with the contractors on the ground. This is going to be a game changer. You will see over these next 12 to 18 months. This is going to be a game changer for the campus and for the club.”
Here’s how fans reacted amid the latest on Man City’s stadium expansion as footage emerges of changes around the ground…
@thecityshack: The first game at home with that new stand open is going to be a generational atmosphere!

@GaryJamesWriter: Glad there’s a new screen going up in the SE corner… where I sit (back of NSL1) you can’t see any of the existing screens. There’s only a few rows which miss out so this will be welcome. Always been frustrating when we’re asked to look at the screens for moments like KDB leaving
