Jurgen Klopp reveals when he plans on leaving Liverpool

They have just won the Premier League, but weeks after doing so, Jurgen Klopp reveals when he plans on leaving new champions Liverpool.

The 53 year old, who has led the Reds to their first league title in 30 years, opened up in an interview with German publication SWR Sport.

It was in December 2019 that he had his contract with the club extended until the end of the 2023-2024 season, but so much could happen within that time.

Despite often choosing not to be drawn on his long-term future, Klopp has acknowledged where he would like to go to next should he depart Anfield.

When asked whether he would be returning to Germany. He replied: ‘Definitely to live, after my career. Most likely even to Mainz [home city].’

When pushed on whether he sees himself staying at Anfield even longer than the deal in place, he simply responded: ‘Four years in Liverpool.’

Klopp was then asked what he might do with his energies after leaving Liverpool. He outlined three possibilities, being: “They are to, ‘do nothing for a year,’ ‘maybe a club, a national team or nothing at all.’

“But I have one problem. I can’t do ‘a little bit. I can only do all or nothing. When I decide that I cannot do it any longer then I will take a break for a year.”

“After that year a decision must then be taken. But chances are very high that my energy level will then be there once more and that I can then do the job the way I want to.”

Klopp has previously mentioned about his mentality when it comes to management.

When talking with German publication Kicker, he noted: “But I have one problem. I can’t do ‘a little bit. I can only do all or nothing. When I decide that I cannot do it any longer then I will take a break for a year.

“After that year a decision must then be taken. But chances are very high that my energy level will then be there once more and that I can then do the job the way I want to.”

There has been many occasions where he has been linked with managing the Germany national team, with Die Mannschaft looking at him as the natural replacement for current boss Joachim Low.

After signing new terms with the Reds last December, Klopp told the club’s official website: “This club is in such a good place, I couldn’t contemplate leaving.

“For me personally this is a statement of intent, one which is built on my knowledge of what we as a partnership have achieved so far and what is still there for us to achieve.

“When I see the development of the club and the collaborative work that continues to take place, I feel my contribution can only grow.”

In the interview, Klopp mentioned that he is sharing an apartment with the Liverpool media manager Matt McCann while his wife Ulla is based back in Germany.

It is an unusual experience for Klopp, as he grew up in Glatten in the Black Forest.

He said: “If you come from the Black Forest, you don’t live in a shared apartment, but in an orderly relationship” before laughing his head off.

There was also a mention on the coronavirus, with the Liverpool head coach saying: “We should make sure that we are better prepared as a society – and I mean global society” with the virus still circulating across the world until a vaccine is found. “It would be worth calling a world holiday where everyone remembers what it was like in 2020.”

KLOPP’S MANAGERIAL CAREER:

Mainz 05: 27 February 2001 until 30 June 2008 – 270 games, 109 wins, 78 draws, 83 defeats, 40.37 win %
Borussia Dortmund: 1 July 2008 until 30 June 2015 – 316 games, 177 wins, 69 draws, 70 defeats, 56.01 win %
Liverpool: 8 October 2015 until Present – 262 games, 158 wins, 60 draws, 44 defeats, 60.31 win %
Total: 848 games, 444 wins, 207 draws, 197 defeats, 52.36 win %

You can have a watch of what he had to say below, though it’s, in German, so if that’s what you learned back in your school days, time to test yourselves and see how good you are!
