Joe Taylor winds up Oxford fans as he was subbed off after scoring two goals in Huddersfield’s 3-1 win on Tuesday night.

Bojan Radulovic had put the Terriers ahead on 56 minutes, before Gatlin O’Donkor levelled for the U’s with around 20 minutes to play.

But Joe Taylor silenced those in the away end, scoring twice in three minutes with the win seeing Huddersfield top of the League One table with 10 points from 4 games. Oxford meanwhile at 13th with 4 points.

Huddersfield Town head coach Martin Drury told the club’s media: “I’m pleased with the outcome of the game. It was a really challenging game. Oxford have a lot of technicians in their squad, and we knew that they were a team that wanted to dominate the ball, and try and play through the middle.

“If they get through they will really hurt you, but they have also got talent down the sides. So, I felt today was a different task to the games that we have had previously. But, I thought it was against a lot of players who have played Championship football, so I thought it was our biggest test, in terms of a football challenge.

“I thought the players were outstanding. Without the ball we were excellent. The way that we have limited them takes a lot of running, and a lot of humble men working together as a group. I thought that their spirit and endeavour throughout the whole game, and their distances to close passes were excellent.”

Joe Taylor said: “It’s obviously brilliant, think we went through it all week and tonight was probably the test that we were waiting for this season.

“No disrespect to the other teams, but Oxford have just come down from the Championship and we wanted to test where we were at as a group of players and I think we’ve done really well.”

Interviewer: “For you, two goals, you must be delighted with that, mate. It could have been more on another day.”

Joe: “Honestly, yeah, I’m actually more frustrated because on another day I’d probably walk away with four or five.

“But no, obviously I’m delighted to have grabbed the two late into the game. Sometimes there’s a strike, you’ve just got to stick with it and thankfully tonight’s one of them situations.”

Interviewer: “What does tonight look like for you now? You’re to rewatch your goals?”

Joe: “What does tonight look like? Tonight looks like go home and go to sleep. That’s all tonight looks like. I’m not thinking about anything else. I’m going to wake up tomorrow, go for a coffee and I’m just going to chill out.”

Interviewer: “Are you one of those players that can just switch off the night game?:

Joe: “Yeah, I have no difficulty switching off at all.”

Interviewer: “How much are you looking forward to Saturday and coming back here and doing it all over again?”

Joe: “Yeah, obviously it helps being in good form but obviously now I can’t wait. wish Saturday was to… Well, actually I don’t because my legs are a bit tired but now I’m really looking forward to it.”

Oxford’s Aaron Ramsey said: “Some really good bits of play in there today to come here and to dominate the game for large periods. Yeah, of course we can take a lot of positive things from there and that was pleasing, you know.

“But you know, I’m not going to come here and say that I, you know, I accept defeats because I don’t. So there will be definitely some learning from that and just managing then the them moments really you know once we get back in and we’re on top again and you know you can see them getting a bit frustrated again.

“That’s the moments really where we’ve got to really zone in and really focus to go and give it you know to take it to them and and to capitalise on that then. So yeah there’s some learning to take from it but also yeah we won’t let that cloud the whole the whole game.

Interviewer: “I suppose it’s a disappointment then we get back into the game at 1 all that just a couple of minutes later Huddersfield come up the other end and score.”

Aaron: “Yeah, obviously that is disappointing. I mean that is some of the learning that we need to take from it. You know, you you do the hard work and getting back into it and then yeah, it’s just managing them moments, but we’ll learn from this. We’ll be better for this for sure, but like I said, it was um it was really encouraging as well for um large periods of it.”
