Jamie Vardy’s former non league club in financial trouble

Jamie Vardy’s former non league club Stocksbridge Park Steels are in financial trouble and are hoping to raise £20,000 to survive.

Just like so many throughout the English football pyramid, they have fallen into challenging times due to the coronavirus outbreak, which cancelled the club’s season.

Because of this, Stocksbridge are now fighting to make up the funds for ‘essential ground maintenance, machinery, and machine repairs, plus building work to ensure their meets the required safety standards’.

The former player turned Premier League winner, Jamie Vardy is being urged by fans to help them out.

He was released by Sheffield Wednesday as a teenager and represented the first-team between 2007 and 2010, before having short spells with Halifax and Fleetwood.

Since joining Leicester for £1million from Fleetwood in 2012, the 33-year-old has helped the club win an unprecedented Premier League title and won 26 England caps.

Stocksbridge Park Steels’ Crowdfunder page has raised almost £3,000 so far.

The club said: “The season coming to an abrupt end, the loss of income from the last three months of the season, and the fact we will not be able to play our lucrative friendly fixtures with our Sheffield neighbours prior to next season have left us with no choice but to ask our magnificent community for help.

“Donate whatever you can, large or small. In exchange, we will be extremely grateful and ensure you have a football club to be proud of within the Stocksbridge community.”
