Jamie Carragher hits back at Richard Keys after being accused as a ‘borderline racist’ over commenting on the England manager’s job.
Reports ave surfaced after England’s World Cup quarter final exit to France claiming that Gareth Southgate may be considering his position as the Three Lions’ boss.
In light of that, a debate began about who would be the suitable candidate to take over with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel named as early frontrunners if the job became available.
Carragher however shares the mind of many others in that the manager should be of English decent, saying: “The England manager should always be English!”

It caught the attention of Keys however, saying that the Sky Sports presenter’s claims were on the verge of being racist.
“What sort of nonsense is this? It borders on racism,” he replied.
“The England coach should be the best person available. England should not hide behind closed borders & minds.”
Carragher replied by questioning if Keys’ claims were as a result of him working for Sky Sports.
“‘It borders on racism’. I hope you send similar tweets to a lot of journalists who have the same opinion, or is it because I work for Sky!
“You are a sad desperate man.”
Keys was famously sacked from his role at the broadcaster in 2011 for making sexist remarks about female referee Sian Massey-Ellis. You can see Key talk more about this in a recent interview with Piers Morgan by clicking HERE.

Meanwhile other point out that the last two trophies won by England coaches were not born English.
Sarina Wiegman, born in the Netherlands, guided the Lionesses to a famous Euro 2022 victory this summer while Welsh-born Steve Cooper was in charge of England Under-17’s World Cup triumph in 2017.
Discussing his future, Southgate admits that his mental health took a toll on him following a barrage of criticism after Juneās humiliating 4-0 Molineux defeat to Hungary, when he was heavily booed by fans, and now he considers his future.
Southgate said: āIāve found large parts of the last 18 months difficult. For everything that Iāve loved about the last few weeks, I still look at how things have been for 18 months.
āWhatās been said and whatās been written, the night at Wolves.
āThere are lots of things in my head thatās really conflicted at the moment.
āSo what I want to make sure, if itās the right thing to stay, is that Iāve definitely got the energy to do that.
āI donāt want to be four or five months down the line thinking Iāve made the wrong call.
āItās too important for everybody to get that wrong.ā
This is what Twitter users said as Jamie Carragher hits back at Richard Keys after being accused as a ‘borderline racist’…
@darylbhoy: Should it not be our best v your best at International level? Why are there restrictions on players but not on managers?
@Habeeb0709: Thankfully the @Lionesses didn’t look at nationality when appointing Weigman. Going for the best out there is what @England need to win trophies!
@BVBMatthew17: I think every team should be made out of their own countrymen. It doesn’t make sense to me that a national team is allowed to employ someone outside the nation
@finlaymcity: You wouldnāt be saying that if your best mate wasnāt the leading English candidate though would you
@dkilburn1: Please tell me you donāt think Gerrard is the āleading English candidateā
@MikeLUHG2: “Lots of us are xenophobic” doesn’t make it any better. Hope this helps
@woolleybear86: Behave keys, donāt throw that word around. Our most successful manager has been English, the team/squad culture has changed, the relationship with the supporters is good. Havenāt seen this with other managers from the continent. Why change it, it works
@Steve_Hibees: Jamie Carragher works for Sky. Therefore Richard Keys must have a go at him. Itās not even close to being racism.
@davidmitch37: Was it racism when your mate Andy Gray said EXACTLY the same thing? Or is it only racism when people still employed by the broadcaster that rightly sacked you say it?
@davefarr67: Didn’t Andy gray say the same thing a few days ago ???
@toothlessgibbon: Is it racist that only English players are allowed to play for England?
@SynGibbs: If the players should have to come from the country they play for, or have lineage that means they can play for a different nation, the same should be true about the manager. Isnāt the whole point of international football to challenge nations capabilities against each other?
@SiJ24: Think you just need to get over the fact that Sky sacked you about 50 years ago.
@bignev38: Not always got a lot of time for @Carra23 however he has spoken a lot of sense on United the glazers and now called out that mess Keys. About time more called him out for the irrelevant comments he makes for bait.
@marz05: With carra on this one, bullshit to bring racism into it! For me the national job requires love and passion for the nation. I donāt believe a foreign coach to any country will have the same passion and love to the country as someone from that country! Itās not racist!
Just making sure we keep our āEnglish DNAā arenāt we Richard? https://t.co/V4ZcrSA9L9
