Jack Grealish apologises for his comment on Birmingham player’s post in support of Benik Afobe

Aston Villa‘s Jack Grealish apologises after being criticised for his comment to an Instagram post from Birmingham City player Dan Crowley in support of Bristol City loanee Benik Afobe.

Grealish was slammed by social media users for putting a ‘feeling sick’ emoji in response to Crowley, who dedicated his FA Cup goal against Blackburn to Afobe, whose two-year-old daughter Amora passed away after complications from a severe infection.

Crowley wrote: “Buzzing to score my first goal for @bcfc and get through to the next round, that was for you and your family bro @benikafobe.”

Aston Villa captain Grealish put the emoji in the comment section and that quickly got hundreds of replies.

Grealish apologised, explaining he didn’t see the full caption written by Crowley and that it was ‘just banter’ between friends.

The duo know each other well after they played together in Aston Villa’s academy before Crowley moved to Arsenal in 2013.

“This is all I saw when I posted the emoji,” said Grealish. “It was just banter with Dan and I didn’t read the whole caption before posting. Apologies”.
