Ipswich fans aimed many when they decided to aim a cheeky chant at Levi Colwill during the Tractorboys’ 2-0 win against Chelsea.
Portman Road was bouncing, the home fans in high spirits loving every minute of their side’s victory, Ipswich beating Chelsea for the first time in the Premier League since August 1993, while it was their first top-flight victory at home since they beat Middlesbrough in April 2002.
Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo had a challenging evening while facing Liam Delap, Colwill showing visible frustration at one point during the match.
Ipswich supporters directed taunts at the 21-year-old, chanting, “he’s gonna cry in a minute,” to which he smirked.
Journalist Bobby Vincent said Colwill began to laugh in response to the chants, as can be seen below…

Colwill furious with something (not sure what). Ipswich fans sing “he’s gonna cry in a minute” and that prompts a laugh from the defender. #CFC https://t.co/55yPxNfqen

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: “It was everything it needed to be, I thought we came out really fast, really aggressive, tried to impose ourselves on the game. We defended, outstanding organisation throughout the game. We were having chances throughout the game.
“I thought Liam [Delap] was incredible tonight. He was one of many incredible performances tonight.
On the result: “There has been hope in the performances in general, we have been competing in almost every game. If you do that, you always have a chance. We are only a few points short with what we could have had. To get three points tonight is always welcome, of course. We’re in games and we’re not too far away.”
McKenna speaking to Sky Sports:
“Special night for the club for the players and fans. First home win in the Premier League at Portman Road for 22 years and to do it against Chelsea was fantastic.
“Most of the supporters who have been here for 22 years, every moment here is a landmark for them. Winning the home game is another special little landmark. But I think the time of year, the night game, the opponent make this a special night and I want everyone to enjoy it a lot. But on the inside we get ready for the next one. We’ll be back into work on Wednesday and getting ready for Sunday.
“It was everything we needed to be. Started well, pressed well on the front foot had some nice moments on the ball. Cashed in on the good start with the goal and after that we defended well, top intensity and organisation. Dealt with the pressure well and you have to make good saves and have moments go your way and keep the threat going the other way and we had that throughout. We had some really good breakaways, shots consistently through the game. At 2-0 we managed the game really well.
“We’ve had a few VARs against us so when their goal was disallowed for offside it was a deep breath in the crowd. That was a good feeling but we’ve had a lot of 1-0’s here so to get the second goal was nice.
“It won’t change much inside. The group are working well and believe what we do day to day. Halfway through the season and we’ve been competitive in the large majority of our games. It’s only some small improvements we need to make to win more games. We’re a humble group with belief and we’ll be back at it.
“Incredible year. Everyone involved with Ipswich can probably enjoy a glass of sparkly stuff tomorrow night and think about some of the games we’ve had and moments over the last couple of years. I don’t want to point backwards too much but I think six of the starting line-up today were in our League One team so it’s the journey this group has been on. When you have moments like this you have a little pause and enjoy it but then move on to the next one.”
McKenna speaking to BBC Sport:
“One of the best nights. We’ve been privileged to have a lot of good nights. Special one for the players and supporters.
“We’re trying to find a way to keep our identity even though our backs are to the wall a lot. We try to keep the values that have got us here but know we’re playing world class teams every week so we’re trying to find the balance.”
On Liam Delap: “Top. He’s improving all the time. His rate of improvement for a young player is really high. His style is enjoyable to watch for anyone. There’s not many like him out there and he’s playing incredible Premier League defenders every week.
“I don’t think about the position. I think about how the team are improving and maintaining our culture and trying to fight for points every week. We will do that every game and see where we get to. The win tonight will change the narrative but if we’d lost tonight us and the teams who came up with us would’ve been written off at the halfway point so I don’t think too much about it.”
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca speaking to BBC Sport:
“Strange game in terms of creating many chances and we could’ve scored many but they saved goals on the line or great saves from the keeper. We could do many things better, defend better in some moments.”
On penalty: “They said it’s a bit soft but we have to accept it’s a penalty.
“We made four changes from the last game because they all deserve to play. Now we’ve finished the first part of the season, no one expected us to be where we are. We are in a good position but we can do many things better. It’s a long race.
“We had chances with Joao and Noni so it’s not about the striker. Sometimes you create chances and it doesn’t go for you.
“We focus game by game. We are not focused on title race or those things.”
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella speaking to Sky Sports:
“We created a lot of chances. We conceded two easy goals and then we had to play a different game. We have to continue, we’ve played a lot of games and can take some positive things. People asked what we expected these first few months and no one expected this level. But we need to continue in this way. We’ve done well so far this season we need to continue to work hard and try to undo these small mistakes.
“Sometimes we have good luck sometimes not it’s part of football but we have to take positives and watch and review clips where we can improve. When we win we are not the best but when we lose we are not the worst. We have to continue in this way and try to win the games.
“We conceded the early goal and we had to play more with passing and then the second one we lost our way a bit with mistakes. We need to play always in the same style and take our time but we rushed and made mistakes. In January we have time to improve, train hard and continue.
“We need to play with the same intensity and desire. Sometimes we rush and rush to win but I think we have done well this first six months. Maybe we have been better than people expected apart from the last two games.”

Ipswich striker Liam Delap speaking to Sky Sports:
“We’ve worked so hard this season and it’s not gone right. The performances have deserved a win and today we showed we are excellent and we defended well, attacked them well. We’re buzzing.”
On penalty: “I don’t know what clipped me but something did. I just tried to get there before him [Filip Jorgensen] and he was coming out fast so I knew he’d touch me if I didn’t get it round him.
“We’ve had three or four opportunities where we’ve not had the penalty we probably deserved so nice to get that one and put it in the back of the net. I’ve practiced them a million times so just aimed for the corner and put it there.
“I don’t think it changes much. We’ve performed as well as that in other games this season but not got the result. Not finished our chances or conceded late. We just need to push on now and get more victories.”
Ipswich striker Liam Delap speaking to BBC Sport:
“Top. Victory at home has been coming for a long time. We’ve had good performances and not got the win but we showed we were excellent every minute today and we thoroughly deserved the win.
“Everyone has their role in the team. My role is to stop them playing centrally and try to get something out of it when they come to me.
“We knew we had to be aggressive. We had the crowd behind us and we try to get after teams. We know their quality and we had to put them under pressure and we did well to get the early goal and stayed compact to see it out.
“First penalty I’ve taken in the Premier League. As a striker you always feel confident and I think we’ve deserved a few this season so nice to finally get one.
“We need to show the grit and determination to win three points and everyone did that today.
“It doesn’t change much. We’ve performed well but not got the results so we just have to start racking up some wins.”
Ipswich forward Omari Hutchinson speaking to Sky Sports:
“It’s good to write history and finally get the first win at home.
“Grateful for what Chelsea did in my career, gave me my debut, but I’m playing for Ipswich now and I want to score and help my team get three points and help us stay up.”
On backflip celebration: “Everyone’s been asking me to do it so I thought I would do it for the first home win.”
On Delap: “He’s a unit he is. Complete package but he’s still finding himself and still learning and trying to become a top player so he’s a good striker to play with.
Here’s how Twitter users reacted as Ipswich fans aim a cheeky chant at Levi Colwill during the 2-0 win against Chelsea…
@Jason_ferguson1: We at least he can laugh because he can’t defend and he doesn’t know the offside rule 💀💀
@gnotballer42: Colwill – Enzo – Cucurella all 3 of them an absolute fucking disgrace. Play acting cheating cunts. You got done by the tractors! #itfc #cfc
@YamYamKally: Wonder if @levi_colwill @IEnzofernandez8 and @cucurella3 found their heads as they lost them at Portman Road. Cheers for the 3 points. Cucurella, focus more on your football and less on finding Bart Simpson and Enzo, you’re still a racist piece of shit! #itfc #IPSCHE
@ChelseatheLab: The more I see of Levi Colwill the more I’m sure he’s really not that good a defender and the more I’m sure he’s ludicrously overrated. Fofana is also poor as are the other CHs we have.
How good was that #ITFC fans?! To a man we were quality. Delap, Hutchinson and Broadhead leading the line superbly.
Thought Enzo and Colwill were going to shed tears. #CFC
Special mention to Christian Walton, to come into a game like this and play the way he did, unreal! 👏🏼 pic.twitter.com/gjb527uXGe
